And like RossFC I enjoy watching Toby Nankervis play. He's no AFL uber-athlete, but he is a superb ruck technician and gets himself into places you want ruckmen to be around the ground. Awkwardly effective at ground level too.
I still have it burnt in my skull 5 years ago of people telling me to shut up about Nankervis and then them proceeding to hype up Seb Tape.

If people were telling you to stop posting about Nankervis it wasn't because he couldn't play, it was because you wouldn't shut the * up about him ;)

Post from late 2015: "I would trade Lobbe if it could net us Lycett and Nankervis"

Context: Bulldogs were offering a 1st round pick for Lobbe. Lycett was playing WAFL footy and Nankervis NEAFL.

Fast forward to the last 4 years: The Premiership rucks in 2017, 18, 19, 20 have been Nankervis, Lycett, Nankervis and Nankervis.

You made a comment about double games suspensions for a GF. It's been mandated since the post 2004 GF tribunal changes. They didn't like the Lynch and Brown punches in that game.

If that is a 3 game suspension in minor round then Paddy gets 6 games in a GF. The spin machine has started up.
Puke. The season's finished and we're still getting a VFL love-in from the media. If this had been SPP he'd be looking at spending the first half of next season on the sidelines. Fact is, it was a cheap shot very early in the game that resulted in one of the opposition's best players spending the rest of the game on the bench. It was a prime example of why we should have some kind of yellow card system to limit the advantage the offending team has when they do this. Either that or for a reportable offence the offender sits out for as long as the injured player.

It will be a tough one to adjudicate. There will arguments for and against. He raised his elbow to protect himself from the oncoming head of Vlaustin. Happened pretty quick so they will probably let him off. If it was SPP, definitely the death penalty

Yeah, a head into the chest can do serious damage unlike a forearm to the head delivered at pace.

Didn't see last night's game but have seen the Dangerfield incident. Dangerfield could have handled that much better. He has held the forearm up, made high contact and made no attempt to avoid head high contact. Of course that is not how Christian will see it, if it gets that far.

He wasn't reported and was there a free kick, correct me if I'm wrong? I don't think so, so he wouldn't have been carded. The game is full of collisions and I wouldn't trust the umpires in deciding who does and doesn't stay on the ground nor be consistent about it.

Well you got Lycett didn't you? What more do you want? Some people are never happy. :D

100% doubt Nankervis will play anywhere near as well again

Lycett and Ladhams were very disappointing but Biclaves is probably the worst starting ruck we've seen in years.

That said Lycett's inability to plug up forward or in defence is why we should look to drop him from the 22.

Watching last night, and our game last week against Richmond, besides their system and having a great side what sets Richmond apart from Geelong and us in tight games is they have Dusty and us & Geelong don't.

He was the difference between us and them last week, in big moments he kicks the big goal or sets one up, or last night he turned the game from late in the second quarter and put his side on his back to lift them for the second half.

He's the difference, in big finals Richmond know if the chips are down Dusty will lift and the others will follow. He almost has the Michael Jordan aura about him now in finals. For me he's the best player I've seen play the game, especially in big moments and games. Credit to him.

There are other factors obviously with why us & Geelong lost, but for me Dusty is the single difference as unlike ours and Geelongs stars who bungled their moments, Dusty seizes his. That's a special talent there.

I hope Rozee can develop into our version of Dusty as I think he has the closest skill set, but will depend if he has the mindset of Dusty I'd like to think Rozee does.

My bad, in 2015 when the AFL got rid of the demerit points system and introduced a standard number of weeks for each individual classification they scrapped the double points/sanction for a GF for non financial sanctions. Financial sanctions still are doubled. From the 2015 Tribunal book page re changes to the system for 2015;

1. CHANGES TO BE INTRODUCED IN 2015
The following elements of the Tribunal System have been modified
for 2015:

A. ASSESSMENT OF CLASSIFIABLE OFFENCES
Conduct is now graded as Careless or Intentional (replacing Intentional,
Reckless or Negligent). The MRP will have the capacity to consider a range
of factors in grading an incident and will retain the capacity to upgrade
their assessment of the severity of Impact where there is potential to cause
serious injury.
....
C. REMOVAL OF DEMERIT POINTS AND CARRY-OVER POINTS
Sanctions no longer consist of Demerit Points or Carry-Over Points and
instead are limited to fines or matches of suspension.
......
I. GRAND FINAL LOADING
The previous 100% Grand Final Loading on base Demerit Points has been
removed. In 2015, a Player charged with a Reportable Offence during the
Grand Final will not receive any loading if the base sanction is a fine or a
suspension of up to two matches. The Fixed Financial Offences of Engaging
in a Melee, Instigating a Melee or Engaging in Wrestling will continue to incur
a 100% loading.
For Reportable Offences with a base sanction of three
matches or more, the charge will be directly referred to the Tribunal which
will not be bound by any maximum sanction (penalty at large).

This is the standard clause re GF's since 2015.

3.5 OFFENCES INCURRED IN THE AFL GRAND FINAL
Reportable Offences which arise out of the AFL Grand Final will attract the same
base sanction as normal except as follows:

»»If the offence ordinarily attracts a base sanction of three or more matches, then
it will be referred directly to the Tribunal, where the Tribunal will determine the
appropriate sanction in its absolute discretion (penalty at large).

»»The base sanction for the following Fixed Financial Offences will be doubled
if such offences are incurred during the AFL Grand Final.
»»Engaging in a Melee
»»Instigator of a Melee
»»Engaging in Wrestling

In other words Dusty is the epitome of a big game player. Mind you Martin plays well most times but he specialises in being there in the big games when it counts. Three Norm Smith Medals is testimony to that.

We will forgive you this time REH but you are going to have to lift your game. ;)

what sets Richmond apart from Geelong and us in tight games is they have Dusty and us & Geelong don't

While this is true, if he was ours, given our club and supporter base’s baffling attitude towards seemingly wayward talent in recent years, there’s no guarantee we don’t shop/trade him for a half-eaten donut at the first sign of trouble before getting to enjoy the golden years.

Its fascinating seeing the logic behind what they do. And fun to see Z grade 'celebrities' kicked around :p

If you can get past who they chose, there are some insights into the SAS world.

If you’ve ever read the Victoria Cross citation for Corporal Roberts-Smith, you’d think he was playing Call of Duty.

Long service leave after 11 years I guess. I don't know whether the other Richmond coaches brought their wives/partners/families up to the hub, but Dimma several times last night talked about being away from his wife and family for over 100 days and that he really missed them, and missed them not being part of GF day and week like the other 2.
