Bid on Campbell at 2 or hope for the slide?

I doubt we would get Phillips if we bid Campbell with pick 2 and landed him.

I'm seriously impressed with the kids attributes.

The swans won't let him go. No chance. We should bid anyway.

Hopefully we can manufacture something to get pick 9-10 up the order.

If we don't pick Elijah Hollands, then we're purposely trying to fail.
Who's our tallest midfielder? Cunnington at 185cm? We need beasts, and this kid is a genuine star in the making.
Phillips may be good, but he seems to handball too much. Hollands has a penetrating kick, both sides of the body.
Phillips handballs too much? Seriously? So what, you want him to throw it on the boot from the stoppage? If so we should make him captain.

He handballs more than he kicks because he wins the ball at the coal face, bursts from the stoppage and releases to a team mate after drawing his opponent. Which is exactly what you want a contested player to do. Not only that, he keeps his feet, then follows up either to get the pill back or he makes it to the next contest. He is a contested animal with super clean hands, excellent endurance, excellent game sense, a nice burst pace and neat kicking and has dominated in finals as an underage player, playing as well as dudes who went 1&2 in last years draft across the finals campaign. Trying to fail? Please.

I get the Hollands hype, he is a super, if relatively unproven prospect. But talking down Phillips because you think he handballs too much is ridiculous.

Just a suggestion:

If we have a clear player we would want with our first pick, could we do the following "wink wink" deal with the Crows:

Brady to have a chat with his Adelaide counterpart. Say we will offer the required years and dollars for Crouch to ensure Adelaide receive Band 1 Compo. On the proviso they dont take Player X before us.

So in effect, we get Pick 1 and Matt Crouch. And Adelaide get pick 2 and 3.

I know it's not legal, but cant be any more illegal than Judd's $600k a year ambassador role with Visy or Dusty's with Puma.

Yes, but we lose future draft picks for 10 years and competition points for 2 years.

Rich. & Carltank get our draft picks, credited with prime time slots on t.v. and congratulations for creative thinking.

Players generally slide because there is some caveat attached to them....ie "Beautiful user but can't get it"......or vice versa
I think Jayden Laverde was the other big slider in that draft. I don't think we're in a position to take big draft risks at the moment. Worries me that Thilthorpe isn't really defined as a ruck or a forward. Good rucks can always be found later in the draft. I think you take your mids, KPFs and high production/high skill/high athleticism flankers with top ten picks.

'He handballs too much' is the sort of analysis you're going to get from someone who does not understand the sport beyond the most superficial and surface level.

The same people will scream 'JUST KICK IT LONG' only to get frustrated when that happens and it's turned over.

Someone should let Cripps, Cunners and Neale know that they're a bunch of hacks.

And has been sliding ever since. Averaged 7.5 games a year since his debut in 2015. Very very unfair comparison I know but at that rate he will turn 74 in the year he eclipses Boomers games record.

So if we had to choose from Phillips or Holland ? who would you choose ?

I'd let Polo boy announce "with pick 2 the North Melbourne Football Club has selected Will Phillips from from the Oakleigh Chargers" then I'd hand the laptop to the rest of the recruitment team and tell them "do whatever you feel like from here", grab my coffee and go for a long walk along the Nerang.

I'm not sure who we should go after as Brown's position has not been finalised. If he stays, key backs (Taz, Walker, McKay) are settled and key forwards (Brown Larkey) are locked in.

If Brown does go I would say we need to go long term as you cannot expect youngsters to hold down key forward positions. Go for the best available midfielders.

Skill level of some of the youngsters has looked terrible this year and so has decision making but it is so hard to judge without being at the ground, but please, no more mid field players who make unforced disposal error after unforced error

I should probably say for the record that I wouldn't have any huge issues with drafting Hollands - I just think the potential for him to transition into the midfield is overstated. Should we select Hollands at #2 I would be slightly disappointed based on my own assessment of this draft class but the recruiters clearly have a better knowledge than I do so I'll back them in.

Hollands could very well develop into a game-breaking midfielder, but assessing a draft class is all about balancing risk vs reward and based on that I have him closer to pick #10 than pick #1.

Goldstein was defined as "basketballer" before we drafted him.

Tilthorpe would be a nice addition if he's there and the best bet mids have gone. We're going to need a 200+cm player that can leap for centre square ruck work. We're also going to need someone that can jump & mark to compliment Larkey & Xerri.
