Goldstein was defined as "basketballer" before we drafted him.
Tilthorpe would be a nice addition if he's there and the best bet mids have gone. We're going to need a 200+cm player that can leap for centre square ruck work. We're also going to need someone that can jump & mark to compliment Larkey & Xerri.
Would have thought Comben is in view for that role.
And he was taken with pick 37.Goldstein was defined as "basketballer" before we drafted him.
So if we had to choose from Phillips or Holland ? who would you choose ?

I'm not sure who we should go after as Brown's position has not been finalised. If he stays, key backs (Taz, Walker, McKay) are settled and key forwards (Brown Larkey) are locked in.
If Brown does go I would say we need to go long term as you cannot expect youngsters to hold down key forward positions. Go for the best available midfielders.
Skill level of some of the youngsters has looked terrible this year and so has decision making but it is so hard to judge without being at the ground, but please, no more mid field players who make unforced disposal error after unforced error
There remains a chance that we win the spoon. If Adelaide beats Richmond, very doubtful, or loses narrowly and we get flogged by the Eagles, very likely; we could end up with Pick 1. Here is a list of the last 20 Pick1's.
2000 Nick Reiwoldt
2001 Luke Hodge
2002 Brendon Goddard
2003 Adam Cooney
2004 Brett Deledio
2005 Mark Murphy
2006 Bryce Gibbs
2007 Matthew Kreuzer
2008 Jack Watts
2009 Tom Scully
2010 David Swallow
2011 Jonathon Patton
2012 Lachie Whitfield
2013 Tom Boyd
2014 Paddy McCartin
2015 Jacob Weitering
2016 Andrew McGrath
2017 Cam Rayner
2018 Sam Walsh
2019 Matt Rowell
Based on those names, apart from the ignominy of winning the Wooden Spoon, that is a pretty handy list of players. On balance I think it might be a better list than the Pick 2's for the same period.
Six of them became Club Captains, being Reiwoldt, Hodge, Deledio, Murphy and Swallow, as well as Goddard, who captained *essendon for a year though more through default. McGrath is touted as a future Captain.
Watts, Scully, Patton, Boyd and McCartin have not turned out as well as might have been expected when they were drafted, though Boyd, arguably was the match winner in the 2016 Bulldogs flag. Patton and McCartin have had shocking injury woes, potentially preventing them from showing their true ability.
In my opinion, Rowell is an absolute beauty and it was rotten luck for the Suns to lose him through injury this year. He may also captain his club.
In that time Carlton have had a staggering 5 Number 1 picks, St. Kilda 3, GWS 3, GC 2, Melbourne 2, Brisbane, *essendon, Western Bulldogs, Hawthorn and Richmond 1 each.
Interesting list Horace. Early days for the recent picks but not many Premiership players in that list.
1: WBD: JUH - Matched bidAnyone have an idea of who we take with the Melbourne pick? Could Trew or Bruhn slide?
Watching the U17s All Star match, I'd question whether Thilthorpe will ever be an above average centre-bounce ruckman. Got touched up in the hitouts by Walsh Jr and looked undersized and ineffectual. From what I've seen he's a key forward who moves like a ruckman, which isn't all that appealing for a top-end pick.Goldstein was defined as "basketballer" before we drafted him.

Not easy to go from the very bottom to the very top.Interesting list Horace. Early days for the recent picks but not many Premiership players in that list.

At a glance at the Horace list, if the best player that year didn’t go at number 1 they still went in the top 10.
Only added an alternative number 1 where the clear best player(s) didn’t go at #1.
Eg Chris Judd has a claim to 2001 #1 but so did Hodge so it’s not like hawks would’ve made a different selection. Ditto Whitfield vs Macrae.

2005 Mark Murphy (Pendlebury)
2006 Bryce Gibbs (Selwood)
2007 Matthew Kreuzer (Dangerfield)
2008 Jack Watts (??? No clear standout but it sure as heck ain't Watts)
2009 Tom Scully (Martin – on part with Fyfe)
2010 David Swallow (Gaff)
2011 Jonathon Patton (?? Greene vs Coniglio vs Haynes)
2012 Lachie Whitfield
2013 Tom Boyd (Bontompelli)
2014 Paddy McCartin (Petracca)
2015 Jacob Weitering (Oliver)
2016 Andrew McGrath – too early
2017 Cam Rayner – ditto
2018 Sam Walsh - ditto
2019 Matt Rowell - ditto
Moral: get top 10 picks

This doesn't surprise me all that much, even if they're superstars, they're going to the worst teams in the land, hardly likely to be playing finals in their first couple seasons at leastHere's your sobering thought for the day.
