No second trade period this year
Michael Gleeson

The AFL has scrapped the idea of a second trade period this year.

The AFL floated the idea of an extra brief trade window after acknowledging that clubs had ended the player-exchange period without a definitive decision on how many players they can have on a list next year nor how much they can pay them.

“We had a serious look at it but the feedback from clubs, the AFLPA, was that it was unnecessary,” AFL executive Andrew Dillon said.

The surprising idea met with a mixed reaction from players, clubs and player agents. Some were very enthusiastic but most clubs believed they could manage their lists now without an extra chance to trade.

Some clubs felt it was unfair not to have had forewarning during the trade period that there could be a second opportunity to trade. They felt it might have affected decisions made under time pressure of last week’s trade window had they known there was a second chance to trade open to them.

An announcement on the salary cap is expected either late this week or early next week. The AFL has consequently delayed by a week the first list lodgement by clubs to the AFL that was due to have been this Friday.

The list lodgement includes salary cap projections for next year so it would have been futile to request salary cap projections days before a revised salary cap and list size is confirmed.
Bullet dodged by Collingwood.

Nik Cox comments were interesting - “a young group like North, coming through together”

Either he’s a North supporter, or that pitch we gave to Jaidyn, Lachie and likely all our potential draftees, is working

I picked that up as well. Made me think that maybe we have told him that if he available at our second pick we are keen.

His old man played for Fitzroy, Melbourne and Brisbane.

You wouldn't think he grew up a North supporter.

Also, any genuine North supporter wouldn't mention Essendon in the next breath.

Yeah I was more emphasizing how good a job the team are doing at selling the dream of the young group coming through together.

The media would have expected him to name 17 other teams before mentioning North.

It might be worth pinning a spoiler post for the live links to Lores draft sheet as well as eDPS's phantom at the top of each page for most folks leading into the draft for quick reference

It can then always then be opened at the top of the page. The live link would be better so it's always updated.

Like the * board has done.

It might be worth doing the same in the 2021 draft thread to Lore's 2021 future pick sheet and eDPS's 2021 early mock, to keep track of future picks.

See below how the * board have done it, so it doesn't take up half of everyone's screen on each page.:

He's a Doggies supporter. At least, that's what he's FB profile says.

Pykie give that a whirl will add the phantom if that's working ok

Works perfect.

The phantom will work well for reference for most rank and file and eDPS's is the best one on the site imo.

Mate of Stevo's son?

There's always an angle.

There is nothing objective about his “takes”

Just note that Lore's draft order isn't quite up to date at the moment. On it's main thread she said something about some late trades not being formalised yet by the AFL or something . So there's things like Geelong's first rounders haven't moved to GWS yet. But I guess it will be updated soon.

Bummer. Was hoping to snatch Quaynor from Collingwood for cheap. Something about a fire sale but apparently it's not a fire sale.

Stevo is a parent at the school Max goes to, so yeah probably.

Of course he is....

Nothing is ever objective with him.

He has no shame.
