Possible also that James Jordon could be delisted and rerookied but would be a risk for us to take given another club could very easily take him late in the draft if they liked him in his draft year when he went in the second round as the youngest player in the draft and haven't seen enough of anyone else this year. That beig said it's suspiciously late in the piece for him to not have a contract so maybe we wouldn't be phased.

I think Oscar and Nietschke are gone as well as Mitch Brown. Jordon re-signs, Lockhart promoted to the senior list and Bedford redrafted as a rookie. But who knows?

On balance if we can get another Rivers and another Kossie in the draft between 18, 19 and 28 our 22 is starting to look pretty balanced IMO.

Priorities for the draft for mine would be:

1) roaming high-half forward/mid type, has to have a decent kick. Someone like Dan Butler or Jack Higgins. A better and more consistent Spargo/Hannan/ANB/Melksham.
2) crumbing small forward to allow Kossie to become the above
3) lockdown general defender type, ideally with some run. Hibberd/Jetta replacement, releases Salem and Rivers to play outside mid/high half forward
4) outside mid with a good kick, hard defensive runner, sits on the wing opposite Langdon.

Focus on getting skilled, smart team-first footballers who have some versatility rather than stereotypically dominant junior inside mids/key position players with average skills who look like they have a lot of upside but would be forced to play out of position.

I like his best football and I think he does have that inside/outside mix that Oliver and Viney lack, but I don't think he's ever going to get a chance to show it for us. We'll never get his post-2018 value and post-2019 was probably the time to cut our losses if we wanted a top 10 pick, but if he can somehow have a good enough year next year to land us a top 12-15 pick from a side in need of a high production inside mid, I'd jump at that. We're still going to have Viney, Oliver, Petracca, Harmes and Sparrow to do what he does for the remainder of his career elsewhere.

If he leaves as a FA at the end of 2022 we'd be lucky to get a pick at the end of the first round on recent form considering Adelaide got a second rounder for Crouch.

That being said if he has a good year next year and we shoot up the ladder I might be open to keeping him... If he wants to stay he needs to become the tackling beast he was in his first year, or nail a wing/half-forward spot.

Gotta be happy with what we’ve done. Brown I will admit wasn’t huge on early. But came around to it. And for that price it was huge unders. He’ll also allow Weideman to get second key defender. That is a huge bonus.
The trading out of next year fist round I’m not totally sold on. But there’s more to play out.

Gus last year to show he can be part of our midfield. Needs to do more around half forward and back especially with pressure from Rivers now.

Scoring from centre bounces is basically nothing now as is scoring from clearances. Either we have to change how the games played or we need to move out some inside players and get some turnover specialists

You'd have to think we're a big chance to package a few picks and go higher again on draft night. Or alternatively, you'd think there might be opportunities to pick at 18 and 19 and then trade 28 for a future pick in late 1st/early 2nd round to a club desperate to pick someone who will be gone by their pick. Assuming we have two picks under 30 on draft night, we just have to pick a small(ish) forward who's a genuine goalkicker, and someone with excellent kicking skills who is a prospect at outside mid, ideally with capabilities to also play half forward and kick goals.
