4 of the players you called out are in the top 10 for career Brownlow votes. You must admit a Brownlow is somewhat a good metric of a good midfielder?

No. They'd be the same players with or without their Brownlow votes. Too much stock put into individual performance. I'd rather draft players who can help us win a premiership than draft players with a game that wins Brownlows.

So Ok

Can we jam the stopper back into this thread.

C'mon we are all so over the loop story arcs. Kennedy Parker especially but if he is off on his parade GotTheGoodes lets plug this thread.

The interns sharing the front office desk BF address have had their go. Teddy, BfB and all the many other shared IDs are about to go on leave. All those teenage kids have earned a great break.

I do worry about the Cheer Squaddie. The bloke has added - what - a lot of ??

In the meantime can I offer my thanks to Clod (if he is really fkg off). I hope the silly Tory visits this Board when he can.

2019 when Fyfe won it?
Maybe 2014 when Priddis won it?

I mean, you've got the best midfielder in your team so you're unlikely going to get the wooden spoon

Freo lost a lot of close games that year. Yeah I'll cop Priddis, always forget that one.

Hardly. Just favours a good side really. Apart from the joke of Woewodin winning when was the last terrible side that had a player winning the medal?

Trent Cotchin won it at the 12th ranked Tigers in 2012. Ablett won it at the 14th ranked Suns in 2013, Priddis in 2014 won it at 9th ranked West Coast, and Fyfe in 2019 won with the 13th ranked team.

OK, right, right, but apart from Cotchin, Ablett, Priddis & Fyfe when was the last terrible side that had a player winning the medal?

Not expecting much from mcdonald first few years. 15-20 goals would be an awesome effort
Given he will probably play 15 games max (unless Buddy, Reid, Sinclair, McLean, and McCartin are all injuried the entire year) that would be a very nice return

think Malceski... and perhaps we don't need him now, which is lucky because he's 17 and built like a stick!!!

But what about in 3-4 years, when he's 20-21, there's no Rampe, no Fox... and he's had four years of development, and we're right in the middle of the window? Would you like a Malceski type to pop up then? Because (imo) that is the aim of this pick...
Good call. And he's not expensive, so if it doesn't work out the loss is small. If it does - yippee!

I think we do still need McCartin. Our current forwards are:
-Buddy
-Reid
-Sinclair
-McLean
-McDonald

Buddy, Reid & Sinclair wont be around for very long. So we've put all faith in 2 kids who haven't proven yet that they're AFL material. Take the 24yr old key forward who will be around for 7 more years. It's not crazy to imagine a reality in 2021 where McCartin, McDonald & McLean are our only fit key forwards in 2021
Totally agree. Also allows us to concentrate on Tom at CHB where he'll be AA PDQ.

A couple of us made note of this earlier in this thread, both this year & last year.
Many disagreed but it is a thing where we are trying to address the issue of putting in hard work into players for a few years only to lose them when they begin to reach their best years. It's more about the ease with which a big Vic club can poach a player from an interstate team back to their home state. It also affects the value of a young player's second & third contract in order to keep them. We are better off to take a Vic player when they are about to reach a good experienced age, say 22 -24 & then throw a good offer at them that they would not get from their existing club. At least we know what we are going to get & it would be less likely that they will want to go back to Victoria. Josh Kennedy was a great example who has become a legend of our club.
Just my thoughts.
Another big issue is the amount of money they can make off the books plus a slightly lower cost of living. Could be as much as 200k a year before tax. Ain't chicken feed.

Nah, the draft is gonna get talked about constantly at this time whether the thread is open or not. It'll either happen here or permeate through all the other threads on the board.

Besides, if the thread does get locked it'll be 5 minutes before the 2021 Draft and Trade Hypotheticals thread opens, which would probably best be left to 2021.

.. lol that was what I was waiting for.

I'd like to thank North's new boss who told them to stock up on mids. And I'd like to thank Will Philips for being good enough. I'd also like to thank the trades for pick 2 not being up to scratch and North being gun shy and not pulling the trigger.

It worked out well

A couple articles linked us to Philips right after North said pick 2 was on the table. Hard to think it was a coincidence

So you think our recruitment staff get the players together and ask "do any of you know of anyone who is any good and might want a game?"

LOL!
No! you are correct, not in that order.
It was badly worded (crazy!) . In haste for effect. No they do not (would not) rely on 2nd year recruits for direction!
Sorry.

School and club contact scouts plus their own investigations will identify candidate targets first.
Sometimes players , usually more seasoned ones, are sometimes asked things like character refs and training habits and what they know/ relationship.
There was two recent articles afl.com (iirc Port player most recently) recommended and assisted to recruitment in just a such a manner.
Why wouldn't you get every bit of feedback passible.? Stephens would know Carruthers very well.

Exactly! If he makes it, then it's the pick of the decade... and given how good the Swans are at developing players, I reckon it was well worth the shot!
