got to get greedy this year iMO, and get a 4th Pick in the 1st 25 and under range..as our current 24 will be a eaten by Guilden and Campbell
Nik Cox, son of Darryl could be in that range...swans probably considered by the industry to be a bottom 5 finish next year, so around 1800 and up points. so trade that future 1st for a 20s (800 odd points) and use the remaining thousand (plus) to help with this year academy kids.
look for rucks next year in the 3rd and 4th round, maybe even those academy ruck(s) if they are considered to be developing nicely..

It would want to be inside that. This Rebuild has been going since 2016. This club turned itself around and asked questions of itself and set expectations that did bare fruit. What's wrong with supporters doing the same when they think things should be going better than they are presently and with decisions that have been made and will continue to be regarding recruiting ? They set the bar and now we are a supporter group for a large part that expect results. Going to the draft every year and recruiting 60kg 18 year olds that are hit and miss is not going to build on the potential we currently have to again contend. Getting the right mix of youth and experience along with positional need requirements will. You know what Mase ? At this rate we will be ****ing young forever. Can't continually be the excuse. Having said that it will always be the convenient one for teams who wallow bottom 4. Ted uses Buddy as an excuse and it has merit others think List development and recruiting has been poor. All opinion.
You cannot possibly be serious. Rebuild has been going on since 2016 you say. We played in a fu@#ing grand final in 2016. Are you suggesting that Geelong will now be going into a rebuild? We finished 6th in both 2017 & 18. Our rebuild stated after 2019 when we finished 15th and the club realised a rebuild was required. Yes, we have been going to the draft the last number of years just as every other side has. It is a requirement that you add at least 3 new players to your senior list.
2 years of not being in finals since 2003 yet you make it sound like we are a Carlton or even worse an Essendon. Going after big name players because they over rated their list and they are now stuck in no man's land and probably will be for a number of years. We will be contending long before they will. You would make a perfect list manager at Essendon.
If it was so easy to just go out and trade in all the players you want, pick up a free agent every year and only draft guns, every club would be doing it.
You have no concept of how a list is built. It's done over 4-5 years not 2 as you would have it.
But, then again., there are others on this board who also believe it is so, so simple to add all the pieces we need in just a year or two and you feed of each other's pessimism.

Nothing wrong with adding a quality FA if the opportunity presents itself.

Of course.

But we need to get more aggressive towards the VFL mafia.

It cost us a flag through biased umpiring in 2016, and the indignity of never-ending ridicule about the Buddy deal. If the Bulldogs had copped what we copped, there would have been a royal commission.

The NGA rort was brought in because of big Victorian clubs to counter the Northern Academy system, which only partially cancels out the inherent advantage VIC/SA/WA clubs get over NSW and QLD clubs in trying to retain players.

We have players like Mitchell and Jones walking out for 30% of their worth.

Brisbane had to play a 'home' preliminary final at the MCG. Clubs are again feasting on the GWS list.

Hopefully Adelaide get very fired up, because we seem to have no influence and big Vic clubs are just going to keep coming and it will be the northern academies next.
Totally agree on the historical bits, especially 2016. Amazed those umps can look in the mirror.
Pridham's approach we all hope will bear fruit, especially if he gets some support.
My point was a small one. Once a decision like this is public, it's done and dusted. Band 3 for Crouch is about right - it's the Band 1 for Daniher that's dodgy as heck.
We need to get behind Pridham.

Hey come on.

Arent you forgetting Gray, Brand, Taylor and Thurlow?

Ill see myself out.

Yeah all Diamonds in the rough.

Take your sermon to Church.

I would have said the re build started about 2018 myself, a good effort to play finals then as well.

It quite simply stinks to be honest.
I think the Daniher offer is $200k more per year than Crouch. Daniher would be up in the top 5% paid in the competition next year. While Crouch would be some what off that.

Compensation under free agency is full of inequalities. However in this case there is a considerable pay difference.

Unfortunately the rules don't seem to always apply. Vickerys contract which the Tigers would've matched it they didn't receive a pick in the 20's turned out to be only 2 years, rather than 3. Daniel Wells offer netted North a pick in the 20s and later on he just "decided" to take a pay cut.

Hawthorn included all of Vickery’s 2nd year $500k salary in their TPP in 2018 despite his retirement, just the same as the rules applicable to us:

Wells was an unrestricted free agent contract and thus could not be matched by North. Therefore the rules are different and he was entitled to renegotiate his contract at any time with no further TPP implications for Collingwood.

In both instances quoted the rules have been applied the same way as for all clubs.

I think it is hard to predict what our recruiters are thinking. Last season we assumed we would pick an inside mid early. But then it was not until our 4th selection that we picked Warner when we were probably more linked with Rantall/Byrnes.

I feel the interviews will be important. They are looking for players that are likely to fit in and be happy at the club. Also they would look at their mentality, Longmire talked this year about how Rowbottom walked into the club with a mature and driven attitude which helps drive the culture of the club..

They will also look at their talent and what attributes makes them potentially elite. I think they liked Stephens because he was a good runner but had shown that he could win contested ball at senior level.

If we are looking at someone who is outside of the projected top 5, trade our 3 with say Essendon for their 6 and a pick in the 20s/30s that they might get for one of their departing players. Use 6 on our desired player then the other pick to assist in matching for Gulden and Campbell. Am I missing something there?
The risk that the further you go down the draft, the greater the chance a bid will come for Campbell before our first pick. We seem to be pretty safe at 3. But someone like Tilthorpe could well slide.

We over achieved so much in 17/18. We had such a young list back then too. People outside of the club didnt give the Swans enough credit for making the finals in those years, they just held the expectation we should be top 4 or fail.

Obviously wouldn't happen, but in theory now that the Giants have matched, could we put an offer including pick 3 to them? Or do they have to work something out with Geelong now that he's nominated?

With a guaranteed elite prospect in Campbell , hopefully the club explores trading pick 3 for a ready made star
Disagree, with the current age of our list, we shouldn't be going after any A-grade players in trade for probably two or three years. Get the top youngsters (why limit ourselves to just one?), then go nuts when we're closer to that premiership window.
