I don’t know much about either, who would you pick OB?

I would pick Phillips everyday. He's like a Rowell or Anderson (who he played in the guts with in the Chargers premiership last year), ready made pro who has such a high floor so you don't have to worry about the club having to develop the player. Will play 250 quality games. Clearance/contested beast, got a good defensive side of his game, and probably good for a goal a game out of the midfield. Liken his game to a Lachie Neale, Luke Shuey, Joel Selwood type

The downsides are he is only 180cm, has good speed without being electric, hands are great, foot skills on both sides are good without being elite/penetrating, and as he's an inside midfielder it's an area we are already well served.

My feelings are you can't afford to be missing when you are picking in the top 10 and he is about the safest pick in the top 5.

Riley Thilthorpe is the other end of the spectrum. The kid is a superstar athlete and everything you would want if you were drafting a ruck/key forward. He's tall 202cm, he's built for a player his age (100kg), apparently has good endurance, good burst, spectacular agility for a kid that big, great below his knees.

Although downsides are he doesn't look to be a super strong mark, don't think he is overly physical/combative and these big kids will take time to develop.

In terms of fit for our list he would be perfect. If 2MP leaves you could have King and Thilthorpe play key posts, with Thilthorpe being able to give Witts a chop out as the 2nd ruck for the next few years. Hopefully when Witts is ready to hang them up this kid would be ready to play as dynamic ruck/4th follower. Liken him a bit to Brad Ottens without his hands being anywhere near as strong as Ottens.

While Phillips is the safest pick in the top 5 this kid probably has the lowest floor, highest ceiling. If I was Richmond I'd back my club to take him and develop him into a superstar, but because we are the Suns I would prefer we just take the known quantity.

Spot on assessment mate. Word for Word how id put it

Crows to draft Thilthorpe 1 because he’s a local product and higher chance he doesn’t leave. They obviously won’t bid one Ugle Hagan since they want their new poster boy to get all the royalties.

The brain would say to draft Logan McDonald. As I rate him as the best this year.

Then north will bid on Ugle Hagan, and then will draft McDonald.

If we still have our pick it will basically be Phillips or Holland’s left

For completeness here are Hollands highlights, fair player this kid

If list sizes are dropped to 44 total including cat B rookies isn’t that a drop of 3 players? If that’s the case based on current numbers 10 out, 3 cut as per Afl agreed pro rata cut with 2 players in we have spots for 5 players currently correct?

I can see getting some big offers in live trading once our pick 5 rolls around depending on who is left.

Given the drop off in talent after our pick it would have to either be 2 in the top 12 this year or a top 12 this year and a future 1st in next year's draft from a team that won't play finals.

Unfortunate that we can't trade the pick for a ready made A grade player on draft night.

We got 44 players at the moment. 6 spots left for me.

But we lose the same amount list spots as the other clubs regardless of list concessions ... hence the additional 3 out? If we have only 3 spots left our trade period will be quiet. If have three spots we might only take 2 picks to the draft

I meant after removing 3 we can have 50. In 2020, I believe we were allowed 53 (40 + 10 + 3). Just my opinion.

So are we just about done in terms of trading/free agency unless a club comes through with a really good deal for our pick 5? It seems like we'll trade 2MP to the Bombers but outside of that I think it's entirely possible we're already finished.

I think they're done with trading in players. Its prob more about any trades with 2MP. Brodie seems to have no real interest so likely he stays for another year.

Yeah fair enough, i'm just used to the mad house on the RFC board :S
Yes sir, Time moves a little slower down here in Sundown Valley. Where the men are robust, The women are pink cheeked and the children are pink cheeked and robust.

Remember this time last year when Adelaide supporters were coming in here and telling us Crouch would cost nothing less than pick 1, pick2, or Lukosius because they would get 1st round compensation for him next year and Lukosius was only going to leave us for them anyway so we may as well get something for him.

Good times.
Ah yes, The Adelaide melts when they thought they were getting Luko and Rankine for free in a couple years

With Adelaide, they might be the only club in the league who would take Thilthorpe with pick 1 after being smashed by go home players over the years. They already are missing out on the best player in JUH, Mcdonald has clearly out performed Thilthorpe in comparable leagues and now with their first #1 pick in the club's history, they could take a player in the 3-6 range who as exciting as he is, isn't a spear head, questionable if can become a number 1 ruckman (which they have covered in ROB). I really like Thilthorpe, he is a great point of difference, but if he wasn't south australian, I don't think this would be a difficult choice for the crows.

It takes me back to 2007 when they took Dangerfield who was a bottom ager and stayed in geelong his first year after being drafted to finish year 12 over Brad Ebert with their first round pick (pick 10). The Ebert name is absolute royalty in s.a, Russell Ebert has a stand named after him at the Adelaide Oval and comfortably sits in the top 5 of South Australians to have ever played.

Dangerfield of course goes on to become one of the best players in the game who did request a trade home and ebert had a solid, but not spectacular career. I am watching this space with popcorn all down the front of me

Riley Thilthorpe is a forward /ruck . Not a ruck / forward .
ROB is Ruck /forward .
I see Thilthorpe as Ben King type but can ruck .

Adelaide will be laughing stock if they trade down pick 1 now ,from not getting pick 2 to trading away pick 1 .

I do but you can’t help but feel for them, the fan base has been humiliated
