Not that you guys need a lead up forward, but SA KPF Kaine Baldwin is a Suns supporter.

If you could split pick 1 for two top 10 picks, you could round out your KPP stocks.

Denver Granger-Barras and Baldwin.
Have been told the new rules may include clubs only being able to choose 1 18 year old in the draft from this year

Crazy if true.

Surely should be clubs only required to draft 1 player instead of the usual 2. As opposed to clubs only permitted to draft 1.

Joel Jeffrey

Arguably the youngster garnering the most attention draft wise out of the entire NT talent pool is Joel Jeffrey, a high marking utility who staked his claim as a key forward this season for Wanderers. Possessing clean hands overhead and crafty skills at ground level, Jeffrey plays somewhat above his 189cm height in that forward role. While he would often be seen presenting an option further afield, the 18-year-old was the Muk Muks’ most productive asset closer to goal as well, booting 29 goals in 13 games. He was held goalless just once in those outings, and managed a season-high tally of five goals twice. With a ton of upside, hopefully Jeffrey can continue to progress.

I really want to get Jeffrey onto our list. Really looks like a potential gun and would be a nice POD in our forward line.

Rankine King Jeffrey
Sexton Wright Ainsworth

That is damn potent.

If anyone is bored, here is a stream from one of his better games this year. Kicked 4 goals.

If AFL minimise list, I think GCS pre listed players could be terminate. So keep Top 5 pick, use GCS second and Brisbane second for Alex davies. Draft two players and utilise second round pick, easy peasy. Those third and fourth round can use club bidding on GCS academy or Darwin zone players.

I think it's entirely possible we'll use our pre-draft academy zone access to select Davies (tall midfielder), Jeffery (medium forward) and Johnston (tall defender) this year. They should all go to the Cat B list. Then we'll likely also get a top 10 pick with our own finish on the ladder and use our second rounder as well as Brisbane's second round to select three more players. So I expect six draftees to join our club at the end of this year.

Essentially we should get top 10 talents with Davies and our own pick, three second rounders with our two picks and Jeffrey, as well as a talented academy key defender in Johnston. Fun fact - the fathers of Jeffrey (Russell) and Johnston (David) are both former AFL players.

If AFL reduces lists I doubt we draft the numbers you mentioned.

Lot of talk about list sizes being reduced.

Even directly from Gil Machlaclan. He won’t give a precise number, but he has discussed what it might look like for clubs after this season.

Best case scenario appears to be lists reduced to 40 for 2021, with no rookie lists.
Then lists reduced to 38 in 2022, and 35 in 2023.

Worst case is list reduced straight to 35 next year.

I think they'll make an exception for us. We're only in our first year of what was supposed to be a concession package to help us become more competitive. We already have the largest playing list in the AFL and although that will likely be reduced, I still think we'll have more spots than other teams.

Yeah, I can see that to a point.

I do believe the AFL twill draw a line though.

I can see the AFL leaving you with your priority pick, and the ability to prelist academy players.

And I can see the AFL giving you an extra year to cut your list back to what ever number they choose.

But that’s about it.

Every club is going to find themselves in a similar situation in regards to injuries, and being short on cover.

That’s why Gil is talking about clubs signing State league players to short term contracts to cover extended injury lists.

Every club is going to be losing those list spots they’d give to speculative development players. I don’t believe Gold Coast should be any different.

Those players are now going to have to find a home in the State leagues if they want to chase the dream. Rather than clubs looking for diamonds from other sports.

What you are missing is even if list sizes are reduced Suns could still delist 10 players realistically and pick up 6. That ideally drops out list from 51 to 47. With 10 rookie spots plus 3 cat b that would give us 34 list spots... simple

I’m not missing that.

I’m just repeating what has been speculated about in the media, and extrapolated that to the Suns.

The reporting is saying that rookie lists will be done away with.

The Suns currently have 41 players signed for 2021 on current rookie and senior lists contracts.

All those on the rookie list players will be moved to the senior list, and say for example you only draft or prelist 3 players at the draft this year.

That gives you 44 signed players for 2021. And instead of cutting your list back to 35 players by 2023. You’re given an extra year.

I’m not against the Suns receiving extra short term help to become competitive.

What I have discussed is that in the new period of AFL austerity, even the Suns support package will be cut back, as it is the AFL funding the support package.

As for the draft, if I were the Suns, I would trying to package your two second picks, and trade them to the Bulldogs for their probable top 15 pick.

Giving the Suns two top 15 picks, and prelisting probable top 15 academy talent, Alex Davies.

Realistically there isn’t many on the rookie list the suns would probably keep at this stage besides:

Holman
Dawson
Budarick
Rosas

In my opinion I don’t think the cuts to our list would hurt us that much as there is plenty of dead wood waiting to be replaced at the drafts or by free agency. As for trading up next years draft by offloading those second rounders can’t see it happening in a compromised draft

It’s this years draft.

Bulldogs are tied to the number 1 rated kid in the country via nga. They will need the extra points to avoid a draft deficit.

You have two second round picks, that won’t have been pushed back when the bid is made on Jamarra, so they’ll still be worth their full value.

Why you worry so much about bulldog, let them carry point like gws Tom Green to 2021.
Play it smart
1 top kids and Alex davies are enough for minimise list. Always thing about yourself first. Is two kids for 2021 enough for the overall minimise list.
Alex davies is consider Weller and Bowes type of talent. Another top kids from WA, SA or Victorian just make the minimise list look great.

It’s going to be hard for the AFL to fund you, while telling other clubs the league doesn’t have the money to support xyz.
Yeah, the 500k difference in 2018 between what your pissant Club and our proud homegrown Club got will make all the difference
Idiot

I don't see the point of downgrading pick if AFL minimise list especially this year for GCS. Alex davies in open draft is top 20 pick. No club want future pick with minimise list either.

How is he a Suns fan? Legit question as I don't know how any interstate youngster without any ties to the club could follow is. As sad as it is.

GCS need a lot of players but minimise list mean Baldwin type miss out.
Minimist list mean less input from other.

I am downsizing
BRIZTOON : BUT YOU NEED THIS.
I don't have money
BRIZTOON : you can take loan ( trade your top pick and second Rd pick)
Me: But nobody offer good rate loan
BRTZOON I can find you one ( Western bulldog got one no1 pick PLAYER they NEED POINT ).
me : in a niceway, I am busy now maybe another time.( please no inside my heart)

Mate, I think you’re totally over reacting, and misunderstanding my intent as well.

Gees, no need for the name calling. I don’t hang sh!t on your club.

I’m just trying to have a friendly discussion.

It’s hard to cover all points of such a discussion, and keep posts short.

As I have repeatedly mentioned, and it’s being mentioned in all the AFL media, the AFL will be bringing in sever cost cutting measures from 2021.

That includes cutting the salary cap from $13 mil, back to $10 mil. And the soft cap from $10 mil, back to $6 mil, and possibly making it a hard cap.

I’m not suggesting your club is an extra burden on the AFL, or going down that discussion. I’m well aware Gold Coast and Brisbane receive the most funding from the AFL. That was never part of my thought process.

I was simply trying to discuss how the AFL austerity measures might impact the Suns.

If you have the projected figures for 2020 that might be more relevant to the discussion. Especially if they identify how much extra the Suns assistance package might be over the tpp and soft cap.

Peel, what I suggested was upgrading the Suns two second round picks for a first round pick.

There’s no future pick mentioned.
