We were the youngest side in the finals this year. We have two first round picks next year and a top 5 father/son the following year. If we manage things correctly we should be in our flag window for an extended period and to do that we need to coverage across all areas including the ruck.

This year is the best ruck class in 5 or 6 years. There are multiple options likely to be available when we pick. To me I grab one and quietly develop him in the background to provide depth initially but also to be in his prime when the younger group become the veterans of the next generation.

I have been very disappointed in the available rucks for the last 4 or so years. Not so this year and I really hope we take advantage of the available talent.
I know Briztoon likes Heath but I’m leaning towards Shannon Neale. Any preference Quigley?

I really hope Collingwood's speculated bid for Coleman gets wiped out by Essendon bidding on McInnes. And if that happens, it gives us a lot of room to move around for the players we want - could trade up for a hot prospect that has fallen to the end of the first round, then after we've matched Coleman we could trade up for a ruck. We have two 3rds next year that we may not end up using, so why not spend it?

Collingwood accumulating a few late picks with the trade with us, is hopefully the start of them avoiding a bid on Coleman. Hopefully they're positioning themselves to move those picks to one higher one, while using those late picks to match.
Seen a few suggestion along the lines of Pick 8 + 2021 R2 > Pick 14, 16 2021 R1. Which could appeal to both.

So, the club is happy he triggered his contract extension?

I am not - he cost us Mitch Hinge.
Hinge left because Adelaide offered him two.

We offered him one.

We know Birchall will be off contract next year.

We still didn't offer Hinge a year to cover when Birchall when will most likely be fine.

I don't think it's Birchall in this case.

We've prelisted Matho and Ballenden as rookies leaving Birchall up for grabs

That approach definitely protects the more desirable 'assets from being poached. If it was a pure dumping in the hope they would go Mathieson and Ballenden are more attractive to other clubs.

Essendon would be odds on to bid on Coleman with one of those picks.

Excuse my ignorance but which lad is going to be a top 5 son of a gun in a couple of seasons?

Top 10 pick? Highly unlikely.. even Dodo won't be that silly
If Collingwood was to trade up to one of Essendons picks using 14 and 16.
He is saying The Bombers will/might use one of those picks to bid on Coleman Jr.

Sorry I misunderstood. Just thinking through that, Yes Dodoro is likely to bid at pick 16 for Coleman if he has already picked thrice before at 6, 8 and 14. Even in that scenario of pick 16 for Coleman, earlier discussion pointed out that we'll give up pick 25 and set our 53 back slightly.

Cedric Cox, Nick Robbo, Sam Skinner and Matt Hammelman have all registered for the Draft...

Don't see much hope for any of them, couldn't Cox and Skinner have been picked up as DFAs? Robbo could play a good role if someone wanted a tagger but time has likely passed him by, Hammelmann would offer more than some on afl lists eg. Schache but can't see him being taken.

Probably a few more ex-Lions on the list but it has over 1000 names to go thru...

Robbo could be from last year, because IIRC a registration results in your name being on the rolls for three years (haven't looked to see if that's changed recently).

I've been reading up on Tom Powell a lot. Looks like a hybrid version of Lachie Neale / Clayton Oliver. Tonne of possessions, handball specialist, natural ball winning ability in the middle.

While we do have Ely and Deven waiting, I always like watching where these "center clearance specialists" get drafted.

Tom Mitchell type. Capable of getting a tonne of it but not very damaging with it. Still winning plenty of the ball is a significant skill to have.

I haven't seen anything really of Heath so it is hard for me to judge him. Personally though I really like both Neale and Walsh and think both will be good starting rucks in the AFL when all is said and done. I would lean to Neale because I see him as a lesser risk of going home.

I would really like to see Hammelmann get a chance. He has always had the talent but he lacked the confidence. All the way through he took a while to find his feet at the next level but once he did he was very good. He has dominated in the NEAFL for a few years now and I would like to see him get a chance at AFL level. I think it would take him a year or so to settle in at AFL level but once he worked out that he was good enough to be there I think he would be a fine player. It has always been an issue of what was between his ears.
