Interesting to see that like Robertson, O'Driscoll looks like he'll slide further down the order than what most people would otherwise expect.

Though Cal Twomey had Robertson going to Geelong at 15 in his phantom released just before the draft last year, whereas he has O'Driscoll ranked at #25 in his December form guide.

Sounds like they're pretty close, and O'Driscoll does seem to have the attributes to fit a need on the wing, so I wonder if there's any interest in trading up from our side.

21 years old rookie pick. Either half a year waiting for Birchall to get injured, or basically assured of AFL gams - I know what I would have done.
And back in his home State.

We have a need for wingman 🤔

IMO we are in that wonderful position of not being of need for any specific area or role within the squad. We have built an extremely flexible list that provides good coverage all around the ground. The only minor need I believe is a developing ruckman but we can get that in the rookie draft without having to spend our prime picks. So this draft is a matter of finding ways to improve our position for next year's draft or simply wait patiently for the inevitable slider or simply making an educated selection of the best player available irrespective of position. We can't be placed any better. That's way even if Colman is bid early it matters very little because we have the points and it still provides us with enough currency to still trade up if necessary.

Both Collingwood and Melbourne linked to Coleman in the first round surely Melbourne won’t bid

If Blake slips past those two, I'm expecting Richmond to bid at their first.

We beat them last year and are the next potential challengers, Richmond would love to mess with our draft plans a little bit.

Yep I'm starting to think we wont get a selection in before the bid on Blake which is a shame and makes the draft a bit of a non event for us.

If we can still get a developing Ruckman with one of the later picks, I think that’s about the best we could have hoped for anyway.

Don't be surprised if we trade into the first round if there's a player there we like.

Is it worth listing an 18 year old ruck on the rookie list or would we be better off keeping that slot open and then selecting the best state/older ruck in the supplemental selection period if Oscar goes down. Seems like a big commitment to prelist an 18 year old ruck who would take somewhere between 2 - 5 years to be at the AFL standard. That empty spot could also be used to pick up a Marlion Picket type to have an immediate impact if we lose too many players in a specific role. Id get if we were getting the best ruck in the draft with pick 25 but taking a ruck in the rookie draft seems like a waste of a list spot at the moment

we have 4 list spots available and are expected to be using only 2 in the draft

We might try but unlikely as it will need to involve our next year's first rounders. I'd rather hang on to them at this stage.

Match Coleman and select a late ruck pick for this year. May be Carter Michael too if he's around as a late pick.

Agreed...
Question: Can Kiedan and Blake play in the same side - aren't they both competing for the same position?
Blake more of a pure small forward from my viewing, Keidean can play a variety of positions to a good level eg. small forward/wing drifting forward and has played as a small back in the NEAFL to good affect.

Listening to Steve Conole on the latest Roar Deal, Blake is more of an impact player with real bursts of speed and power and can play through the midfield in shorts stints, has a little more to offer that his big brother.

Regardless of where his is bid on, I get the impression from listening to Conole they will match it.

He was really impressed with his output this year in the QAFL especially the GF

It sounds like that's what has rocketed him up the order, and now it seems like he'll be the highest small forward taken in the draft.

Seems like Blake's fit into the side will be similar to Rayner's at the moment.

Few posters are indicating Pies might trade with either Adelaide or Essendon to move into top 10 and get a pick before Reef's bid comes in. That'll work well for us in my view, they get a player in the top 10 pick and rest of their picks get pushed back after matching Reef. Puts them out of equation for bidding on Blake.

Been reports Melbourne and Richmond are into Blake as well. It doesn't really bother me, we will probably get a 1st round talent in and arguably one of the top small forwards in the draft

I have heard Steve Conole say before that they actually want bids to come early for our Academy talent because as a club it means that they are doing a good job in developing the talent and producing higher quality players in Qld which is the aim of the Academy ultimately.
This year for Blake It has been helped by the fact that the Vic kids havent played a game and that most clubs were in Qld and probably got to see him play a bit.

I’m assuming the club would have had an opportunity to match the two year offer if it wanted to. Choose not to, and therefore choose to let him walk. Indication of where he was rated.

We certainly did have the opportunity to do so.

So we wait until we secure Coleman (unless there is no bid before our first) then assess if there is somebody available we really like then try and trade picks otherwise take a late project pick or wrap it up for the night with just adding Coleman to list. Seems like a simple plan.

I just wish we bid on Maurice Rioli Jnr just to piss them off.
