It doesn’t work like that. North were desperate for Cyril. All our draft picks after 2006 would have changed, might have thought we could get by without Dew and Lake ect.
Exactly what if Hawthorn drafted Brown as an underage player when we promised we would, do we draft Roughead and Franklin in 2004? Pointless exercise to think about.

I've said this before but I will say it again. How many players that have done an ACL have come back & played at the same level they previously played or lived up to their potential? There aren't too many.

I'd definitely have concerns over Hollands even though he has clear ability above most.
Not many under 18 players do acls let alone elite talent doing them.

Suckling, Walker, Burton, Selwood, Richardson Murphy and King it would seem, that's off the top of my head sure there's more. Also should note ACL recovery is sigficantly better than it use to be.
Max gawn goes alright, Robbie gray, nic nat all absolutely elite after acl’s. The reality is that not a lot of stars have actually done acl’s and a lot of the time they do come back and reach very high levels.

I should have worded my post a bit better in regards to elite players/potential so I would take Suckling out of that equation. I also wouldn't put King or Burton into the discussion as they are still young in their careers.

Did Selwood ever actually rupture his ACL, i know he had issues with it throughout juniors but I'm pretty sure he never ruptured the ACL.

Richardson, Murphy & Walker I agree with but I think they are definitely the exception.

Post surgery is much better now that they don't have the knee in 'locked' position for a couple months, would be interesting to see the results in a few years of the players that have had the 'new' rehab over the previous one as the new one may get rid of a lot of the potential future issues.

Gawn & Gray for sure. But Naitanui has done it twice now. That is the thing I worry about as well, not just the ability to get back to top form, but doing it again is definitely a huge worry. Particularly for us if we spend a top 5 pick on the player.

I think the stats are around 5% of players re rupture the ligament, obviously you’ve always got the chance that You’re the unlucky one, but it’s probably not as common as you’d think it was. I’d be interested to know how he did it. I get the feeling that if you did it just running and twisting by yourself then it’s more likely that you re-do it, than someone who has it caused by an impact or hyper extension etc. I think i remember hearing he did it in a tackle, which hopefully bodes well for him in the future. But yeah I certainly wish he hadn’t done one, but I get the feeling that if he didn’t, he wouldn’t be on the board by our pick.

if our Docs are happy with Hollands knee then I'd be happy to take if the opportunity arose.
Finally, a BINGO!

It doesn’t matter if Player Z from Quambatook did their knee in 2010, all that matters is what’s currently going on with Hollands’ knee and his recovery.

I’m totally convinced we will take Hollands and if we don’t I’m going to flip out and blame clarko for ruining my life!!!

**** YOU BUCKENARA!!!

But yet not 1 midfielder is in the top ten for goal kickers this season. Sure the game has and always is changing but there will always be a place for a big forward that can mark and kick goals.
For what it is worth McDonald is a lot quicker than he looks. Below his knees and athleticism are his strengths.

I am trying to think of players in this category as it will be an interesting exercise.

Noah Answerth
King
Brodie Kemp
Scharenberg (I think)
Harry Morrison
Witherden

Must be others?
Beau muston. Poor bugger. Botched first one necessitated another go at it.

Yes, how he did it is much more relevant. I’m sure he will recover and get back to what he was, the bigger issue is the potential to do it again from any predisposition for ACL’s. The club would be diligent with this before drafting for sure.

I thought Witherden broke his leg, not did an ACL?
