Saunders sounds like a very rounded player and a solid prospect.
Can play inside and outside, accumulate and set up play, has pace and endurance, and kick a goal.
I wonder why he hasn’t rated any mention? (That I know of anyway).
Height and position. There are two players under 180cm that are 100+ clearance players per year (Neale and Prestia). Most sub-180cm players taken in the draft are HFF and small forwards at AFL level even where they run through the centre at times or even were mostly midfielders at underage level. Clubs may have just seen others as more suited to those roles than Saunders, even though he can should be able to play those roles too.

I asked 2nd, is that ok?

Seriously dude you were being a Debbie Downer on a kid that half a dozen other club recruiting guys said apart from JHU they would have taken at number 1.

I was just pointing that out and we did indeed draft the best available with our pick but yes you have every right to ask the question, same way as I have every right to answer it.

Who was going to be number 1?

Am I missing something? Roby was fairly happy with DGB, it was Mitchell he was unhappy about given the other options available.

I think most recruiters will suggest Mitchell was a reach but he does have a skillset that fits our requirements.

Rep are you kidding me?

Who gives a flying fu** about Rep on an anonymous Internet forum?

Again, if that is the case do not reply to that post. Let's talk about the draft. You seemed to ignore the last question in regards to who is no.1 pick who is not JUH?

DGB is an excellent pick. He is also has a good attiude. Said he wants to be the best player in the AFL, can't go wrong with that.

Sorry we seem to have a crossed wire.

I may have gotten you mixed up with another poster, my bad and please accept my apology.

I was saying that 4 other clubs recruiting teams had Denver slotted in as their number one pick (ignoring JUH) and 2 others had him line ball number 1.

He just turned 22, he is still so young and has scope for improvement. Won’t be a superstar but not sure why you are so insistent that he won’t improve.
He won’t improve, what’s he improved on in the last 3 seasons? Has he got faster , better kick , better decision maker etc nope nothing. He is a vanilla okay footballer, not best 22 by any means.

The top six for me have always been hard to split and you could make a case for all of them been better than other.

Gold Coast must of been sitting their laughing knowing they were going to just sit and wait to whatever fell in their lap.

Improvement isn’t always linear. Like I said, I know he isn’t going to develop into some bonafode superstar but I think it is quite preemptive to write someone off just because they haven’t locked in a best 22 spot by their 22nd birthday.

Not writing him off just saying he is nothing more then a handy depth player. Not best 22 material, already behind greaves day in the backline and others. No spot for him in the Mid or fwd. unless there’s an injury he will be at box hill

Not many get more than 30 games at hawks and not make it to best 22. HE could be a Tom Murphy type that is just good to have for depth without really being in the best team. Or he could be a little better than that and be in the best 22. Just have to wait and see.

You seem very sure of yourself.

You can't see any way he improves and becomes a regular starting 18?
🤣🤣🤣 better chance of winning the lotto mate, his already played over 30 games with little improvement. Shits the bed under pressure , just a handy depth player. He peaked in his first game , gone backwards since then. Happy for him to make me eat my words.
