It is a really interesting discussion you guys have got going.

If a full season gets played everyone can see all the kids and for the most part you can make a fairly educated call. The top 10-15 won’t change dramatically, just possibly their position depending on club needs.

But now we have the added issue of the season either not going ahead or being truncated. And to add to it, the current talk of lists being also reduced.

How will kids like the Evans’s or Gollant’s who came from the clouds last year get even a look in this time around. And does that mean a kid like Jeka doesn’t get picked this time around. Because last season there was no way I would not have picked Jeka ahead of those boys.

So there was obviously things that those two boys did outside of the Academy Hubs and National Championships that got them over the line. Ahead of an All Australian, Academy prospect.

Clubs will prioritise, top end talent and ready to contribute and play a role talent at the draft.

Most clubs might only carry a couple of developing kids, unless they’re in a big rebuilding phase.

Project players will now have to keep developing at the State League level. Any where from one to four years.

They’ll still have a chance to be drafted, just not as 18 or 19 year olds.

Advantage in playing yes, but there's only so much recruiters will take out of those games. Elite top end draft players beating up on average school kid footballers. You would expect JUL to kick at least 6 on an APS quality defender.
How many of the Vic Metro U18 and U16 hub kids aren’t at one of the private schools?

And how many of the Vic Country kids are also at the private schools?

Is there much difference between a top private school and a bottom NAB League team?

Well APS metro kids are majority Dragons and Chargers.
So top agers in the metro hub not playing APS
Eastern: Downie, Parker, Clarke, Diedrich
Calder- Cardillo, Brand, Eyre, Edwardes
Northern - Cox, McMahon
Sandringham - Bowey
Western - Ford, Raak

Country
Geelong - Henry, Walsh, Fleeton
Bendigo - Ginnivan, Treacy, Mitchell, Conforti
Gippsland - Reid, Angwin
Murray - Bendendo

So theres a 8-9 kids who are great top 30 chances not playing APS this year, potentially 2-3 top 10.

If you go back to last years draft in the top 20 there were 13 kids from victoria 6 were non aps (Ash, Young,Flanders, Stephens, De koning, Plilp).
Yes a lot of the APS schools have a great top end but the quality for the bottom half of the team isnt great, ive watched a few games over the years and some kids playing are well well below nab league list standard.

Seperate question.... How come some kids who move to melbourne/geelong to board at their APS school still play at their original nab league club, while some move to a metro club. Last year Serong/Hollands living in Geelong/Melbourne but still played for Gippsland/Murray while players like Setterfield ('16), Ugle-hagan, Chesser have moved to metro sides.

Nick Stevens is still attending Geelong Grammar?

Twomey reporting an August return for a shortened NAB League, possibly followed by an U18 Championships.

thats great news, AFL is obviously the best comp, but at times i lose interest in the poor umpiring and the defensive direction of footy at the top level sometimes, NAB League or VFL footy makes me enjoy football again without all the BS, so im glad its coming back this year. *fingerscrossed*

How many of these kids are still in the mix?

Good news. Heaven knows we need a young spinner.
There's actually a few good young spinners coming through. now we need some pictures that suit them, some good coaching and the chance for them to get some opportunities.

100% agree. Could start with Sydney and not playing on roads like the Junction. There’s a few spinners coming through agree

He's probably not Warne so don't get those hopes too high.

Maybe MacGill, Grimmett or O'Reilly though.

I’d take a solid one that’s all we need. When Zampa keeps getting mentioned I start throwing up

Pope is only about 19 or 20 and has shown a bit

Seems a limited overs spinner. Has a lot of Zampa vibes where his wicket ball is his wrong un, doesn't turn his stock ball enough. Tanveer Sangha could be the one, as he actually turns the ball. However who knows these options are young. Luckily Lyon still has 4+ years left

Video interview with McLachlan on the AFL site too, expects a draft this calendar year, potentially with two minimum picks rather than three pending how list sizes shake out.
Was a very positive interview, by the sounds of it they’ll start looking to get the nab league started once the afl season kicks off.

Did Gil comment on the protests jeopardising the AFL's future? The AFL's never been backward about telling us what to think on other political issues.

I can't imagine Gil coming out against Black Lives Matter.

The Victorian Government seemed reasonably comfortable with them proceeding, considering no fines were given out.
