Mutineer, where do you see Taylor playing in the AFL (if drafted)? Is he just a half back with a bit of pace and marking ability? Cheers
Down back is essentially where he played most of the 2019 season for the Northern Knights after an earlier stint in the forward line.
He's a bit different from our other backs in that he's more the 3rd tall/intercepting marking type moreso Tom Doedee than say Sholl, McPherson, Smith etc with his outstandlng vertical leap and sticky hands. Worth remembering also Ayce was a late convert to full time football from basketball.

I'm thinking Tom Doedee insurance in Taylor and Murray.

Twomey also confirmed that the Giants or Freo were trying to trade up to get ahead of the Crows at pick 9 so they could get Pedlar

So when Stengle is delisted does that open up a second spot on top of the one we have for Gibbs spot?
If his contract is terminated, then yes.

If his contract is not terminated, then it's probably more complicated. They may try and put him on the inactive list, banning him from having any contact with the club, while giving him a clearance to play in the ammos (after his AFL suspension has been completed).

Twomey also confirmed that the Giants or Freo were trying to trade up to get ahead of the Crows at pick 9 so they could get Pedlar
Twomey confirmed: "The Crows were hoping Essendon didn't trade their third pick to the Giants or Fremantle, who Adelaide feared could come up and take midfielder Luke Pedlar one spot ahead of them. "

He did not confirm either of them were actually trying to do that.

In fact about GWS he said they "had identified Reid, Bruhn, Heath Chapman and Connor Stone as the four players they were targeting for their first two picks" and "also spoke again with Henry, Pedlar and Cox, but didn't meet with Reid, Stone or their third pick Ryan Angwin (No.18) in a bid to keep their interest under wraps, having already met with the trio and their families earlier in the year."

All it says about the Dockers is that they "went with Chapman, having also liked Pedlar, Macrae and Cook"

If you take Twomey's article seriously, it says GWS pretended to be interested in Pedlar, fooling us into drafting him early because we believed them, so that we didn't draft any of the players they really wanted.

Your rumour might of course still be right, but it's hilarious that you think Twomey's article "confirms" it. Twomey's article makes us look like dummies.

Fair call, I guess Twomey is covering off a few bases there.

Its really hard in the end, as a lot of ducks and drakes being played and we won’t ever know either way.

Probably worth noting that GWS have been very conscious about their messaging to their fans this trade/draft period. They came out very much on the offensive at the end of trade period about losing Caldwell and Hately. If they’re intentions in trading up with Adelaide were in fact to get Pedlar, and we baulked because we learned of this, I doubt they’re going to be keen to have this broadcast to the fans.

If they did bluff us with Pedlar, then kudos to them, but at the end of the day, either way we obviously wanted Pedlar. Chances are we probably had a very low threshold for canning the deal if we felt drafting Pedlar was in any sort of threat.

Unless we actually really rated pedlar and took a no risk policy by taking him at pick 9

Seems a rather safe assumption, seeing we probably did reach a tad for Pedlar.

I have no issue with that either, there is no point being cute if you believe the risk of losing the player you want is there.

All fair and reasonable.

I am just pushing back against the statement that Twomey’s article “confirms” GWS and Fremantle we’re actively trying to get ahead of us for Pedlar. It does not confirm that and if anything it contradicts that.

Absolutely agree. They look to have identified the players they really wanted and went bang at pick 2 for thilthorpe, pick 9 for pedlarand traded up to make sure on cook then took berry and were holding their breath at the carlton pick before they took rowe. They also seem to have worked out that both borlase and newchurch were unlikely to be picked in the main draft and it panned out.

I like that we seem to have got the guys we really wanted available at our picks and lets hope they can hit the ground running
