We’ll see I guess. It won’t be Adelaide we swap picks with unless it’s 2 1sts for that current pick 9.
I don't think we'll ever know in terms of gamesmanship, but with all the talk of us looking to trade up, it wouldn't surprise me if a club leaked an intention to bid in order to get us to overpay in order to move up. Like with the Treloar trade, we've found ourselves in another exploitable position.

I have no doubt he will begin his career in ther forward line and make an impact. I think it's that upside which has other teams thinking about taking him
The question is will that be in 2021 or 2022. He's still only a baby at 17 so I'd hate to see him thrown to the wolves too early.

We won’t, but the club will. I feel the same way in regards to how compromised our position is. Realistically the same could happen in 2021 if we hold onto that 1st rounder unless we trade someone in. Clubs will know we won’t want to have it absorbed by a Daicos bid.

It’s the biggest problem drawback of being a well performed team with high end NGA or FS’s. You always pay full tote in the end. Hindsight’s a wonderful thing, but I can’t help feeling we should have moved the 2020 1st into the 2019 draft.

I reckon what we should do is trade this years first rounder and the next 2 years first rounders for the Crows number 1 pick, but instead of picking Logan McDonald as everyone expects we should then pick the player that we were going to draft at 14 anyway. Then when the sh1t hits the fan, we should trade our way back into the draft at pick 8 (where Logan has drifted to due to the concerns on no-one picking him up) and get on the phone to the Crows and tell them we are picking Logan. I reckon that the Crows will then crap their pants and trade back all of our first rounders, their pick 9, and the boot studder for our pick 8 so that they get Logan. We then use pick 9 on Cox and everyone is happy and we've pulled off the greatest trade in daft history!!!!

Disclaimer: I may have watched Draft Day last night......

Theres some quality that will be around there so not the end of the world

I really don't want to be in a position where we are struggling to win games similar to the year we traded a future 1st for Treloar.

Pie supporters have had enough pain.

Yes, but I think that you can learn to play mid or any other position if you've got the attributes and have shown spacial awareness in other roles and sports, whereas reading the ball flight quicker than others, of an oval ball spinning like a drop punt doesn't get transferred from other sports. If he was good enough to do it at the level needed for AFL, he'd already be playing that role.

Have you had a look at the mids that came out of Oakleigh last year? Start with pick 1 and pick 2 in the National Draft. Might give a hint as to why a bottom aged kid was starved of opportunity.

Or are you suggesting he doesn't have a basketball background?

Perhaps we've asked for their pick and they're wanting us to pay up for it? The old pay up or you'll pay twice as hard!

With the 20% discount we'd likely only pay with our current pick 14 to match their pick 9 so why would we be interested in paying more in a trade?

I agree that we may have shown our cards too early with the desperation to trade up the draft if the opportunity presents itself. Clubs may try to make us overpay.

But at the same time there may be enough clubs only taking 1-2 picks, are under-resourced in recruiting due to COVID-19, etc. that they may overlook that fact and trade into next year.

End of the day there may only be 50 kids picked and we might be taking 5 of them! That's 10% of the draft 😂

Has the club been desperate or is that just supporters hopes?

Richmond apparently looking to trade out their first pick currently 17---we should swap our 2021 first for this.
However we need to wait to see where the cards fall in terms of McInnes but this is an opportunity that could present itself nicely for us.

What if our 2021 1st is pick 5?

I was talking about the unlikelihood of him becoming a KPF. I'm not sure how Rowell and Anderson are relevant to that?

Well the club publicly said we wanted to get some good draft picks, and rate this draft. We just forgot to get good draft picks, which I'm sure Ned Guy said we might trade up upon.

But you're right, it could be supporter's expectation more than anything. Some of us - particularly myself - are clinging to hopes that we have a plan.

Is the hawks pick 4 off the table? I’m all for getting a few more picks even in the 20’s as there seems to be a lot of potential but you can almost guarantee a top 5 player for your club at pick 4/5. The hawks will rebuild so 3 first rounders might be attractive for them instead of one each year. Throw in a second if we need to. Especially in this draft and next years could be a top 10 anyway in another strong draft. They get 3 first rounders and we will have 3 also in Nick Reef and Macdonald (according to Twomey [emoji38]). 2 top 5’s in 2 years will be awesome and something to build a GF side around! Plus Reef! I know I’m dreaming but I’m dreaming big! Why not?

These shannigans are going on with all clubs in regards to Top draftees - bluffing, leaks, lies and deception, so a lot of clubs are in “exploitable positions”

There's a strange and unlikely rumour floating around that North are trying to trade pick 2 and a future second (probably pick 20 or 21) to the Hawks for 4 and their future first (I would expect anywhere from 4-10).

Can't imagine the risk/reward is worthwhile for the Hawks though. That's maybe getting Logan McDonald for 2 first rounds rather than DGB and a good kid next year.

Anyone interested in testing their draft pick abilities to win prizes?

The tigs pick will end up in the 20s.

Reasonably it could be predicted that our ‘21 first will fall between 8-13 and I hope we’re not silly enough to trade it for a pick outside that range given that the ‘21 draft is already being hyped as better and with less bids.

If there’s a good offer this year take it, if not hold and see what’s on offer in ‘21.

🤦‍♂️ we’re a long way away from that then!
