Seems pretty clear that Adelaide’s bidding on McInnes and we’ve put the word out that we won’t match a bid before our current picks. Bit of gamesmanship going on and I suspect we’ll blink, but unless a trade is done I’ll be backing in Cal’s phantom.
Does sound like he has heard something. He was on SEN this morning and mentioned had had a lot of calls with recruiters this last week. Also mentioned it's a bit of a 2 way street as recruiters are also after what he has heard from others in the industry. No doubt some false trails are given to him at times for that very reason, we wait and see.

Don’t think pies ca play the waiting game. If we leave the draft with 2picks like Twomey’s phantom then it’s another fail. Are there any rumors about the likely hood of us to trade up or down. We must either use less picks which are high or more picks lower. What % are we to trade up or down or nothing?

These shannigans are going on with all clubs in regards to Top draftees - bluffing, leaks, lies and deception, so a lot of clubs are in “exploitable positions”

Having two first round picks in the same range as the predicted bidding range of an academy kid is what puts us in an exploitable position. No other clubs are in that same position.

Thinking on it further I’m probably now leaning toward the Adelaide stuff being strong and us not matching as the bluff for that very reason of false trails. IMO, there just hasn’t been enough coming from other clubs about placing a bid. Twomey will no doubt drop another phantom tonight or tomorrow as his “late mail” which will be 80% right on the night so we’ll wait and see on that I guess.

There's a strange and unlikely rumour floating around that North are trying to trade pick 2 and a future second (probably pick 20 or 21) to the Hawks for 4 and their future first (I would expect anywhere from 4-10).

Can't imagine the risk/reward is worthwhile for the Hawks though. That's maybe getting Logan McDonald for 2 first rounds rather than DGB and a good kid next year.
They'd have to rate McDonald very highly to do it, unless they have a good academy kid available next year?

More reality than fail. If an early bid comes from elsewhere that's the rub of the green and we take two picks whether it includes Reef or not. Trading next years 1st might net another but I wouldn't necessarily see that as a win. May be wiser to hold out and see if that becomes a better pick as 21 progresses and in a strong draft it becomes more tradable. I don't think any club will commit to us falling a long way in 21 at this stage so wont be giving up much for our future pick.

Then we still lose with next year being a stronger draft.
Given it’s a dead pick for us, the strength of next years draft doesn’t really matter. We either trade it for a pick/s this year or trade for a player/future pick next year. Either way we’re unlikely to get full value for it because clubs know we’re keen to offload it.

Not sure if he mentioned it in his phantom or anywhere else but Twomey said Essendon want 14 and our Future First if they're going to part with their third selection (currently pick 8).

Yuck.

So it probably will happen.
Of course they do. Typical dodoro.

If it is pick 17 next year then we would probably keep it to help with points for Daicos or break it up for more points. I wouldnt be trading it for what would be pick 20 in the 2020 draft. If I did trade it for a pick this year it would involve a top 10 pick at least. We might have to package it with something else.

Using our first next year purely for points is the lowest value scenario, so if you’re happy with that then you shouldn’t be complaining in the first place.

What if we were to ask for 44 as well? Before we select say Cox at pick 8 perhaps we trade 16 out for a future 2nd and another late pick. A McInnes bid comes at Adelaide’s pick which is then absorbed by 44 and our other garbage. We then trade 2021 picks to get back into this draft.

We wind up with Cox, McInnes, perhaps a couple of picks from 30-50 and fill the rest with late picks.

Edit: for me to get behind a trade up we’d need to walk away with a Thilthorpe/ Cox/ Reid. If it’s to bring in a mid sized forward/ mid it’s a no from me.

We could hold on to it until next year, and trade it for a player next year. We don’t have to keep it to be eaten up with Daicos.
Or, we could trade it for a future (2023) 1st round??
We are under no pressure to trade it tomorrow. 🙂

Well the club publicly said we wanted to get some good draft picks, and rate this draft. We just forgot to get good draft picks, which I'm sure Ned Guy said we might trade up upon.

But you're right, it could be supporter's expectation more than anything. Some of us - particularly myself - are clinging to hopes that we have a plan.

I rate 2 picks in the top 20 as good draft picks.
