Am I the only one who doesn't think we've won the draft yet as we could've recruited eight players that may never be in the Collingwood side consistently?

Nobody has won the draft for at least 4-5 years and even then it's probably the 8-10 year assessment that you really need to do to get a fuller picture of how it all unfolded and who cane out as a winner.

You've got an extremely pessimistic point of view there - is this borne out of some sort of unconscious "not an early draft pick so might not be any good"" bias?

Not casting any aspersions there for the record, as I suspect everyone to some degree is probably thinking that the entire draft was a potentially a lot more hit-and-miss than usual (potentially more miss than hit) on some level , given that clubs were all going off U17 form (and in some cases limited local U18 competition output).

Lions furious with us.

We had a gentlemen's agreement not to bid on their academy player Coleman.

And we did it anyway.
When did we last strike any sort of trade deal with the Lions?

Why, because we swapped some trash picks with them? They can’t be serious.

Funny how people are crying that we are going to pick short people again when we’ll more than likely get a player that’s already 193cms.

Took Poulter also who is 192-193cm Possible Mid

I think you might need to re-assess your thoughts on the draft process more than anything else because that’s the most pessimistic hot take I’ve read in a long time on here.
It doesn't seem that unlikely to me. If you look back over past drafts, getting more than 2 quality players in a draft is massive. 1 hit is probably the most common and the 0 hits - that he said was a possiblity - happens a bit.

We haven’t won or lost anything yet - given the “experts” rated our lot just about the best haul, I’d say we are just in front for now.

That’s it.

The breakdown should either be “we did very well”, or “no-one can judge at this point”.

If you’re going to make a case for “we haven’t won the draft because they might all turn out to be spuds”, you better back it up because that’s true of every team’s draft haul.

Genuine question what is wrong with you? Are you just looking for an argument? That post was unanimously panned because of the attitude from that poster not because of the accuracy. The draft is about hope for draftees, clubs, marketers, members, families, friends etc. so if you’re takeaway from the one day on the footy calendar that everyone wins is “they may never be in the Collingwood side consistently” then your values are wrong.

I’m not big on any form of negativity (clearly) post draft, but the only way you can pull it off is the way GC did with regards to questioning our list build using later picks. This was different.

To address your post specifically. It’s more or less a fact that only 20-30 of the kids drafted will go on to have “good” careers. Of which we might get 2-3 if we’re lucky. We all know that! Everyone, almost to a fault, though also knows that you let the warm fuzziness of draft night hang in the air for a little before discussing the possibility that all our draftees might not go on to be 200 game AA’s. Especially after the shit show that was trade week...

Anyone done a rolling analysis on the clubs and their past drafting? Graded them and worked out who is the best?

Or do we just let premierships do the talking?

I think CFC have won the draft period in the sense that it makes the whole off season todate, with all it's drama, look more strategic and planned than initial external reports and speculation suggest.

Genuine question? You really don't like anyone disagreeing with you, do you?

I didn't read the attitude that you read in the post. I just read a poster saying don't count your chickens before they've hatched. I thought it was a reasonable post that was being panned. To me the panning of that post was the unnecessary negativity.

And Ned said we were going to get 5 choices in the top 30 and he really pulled it off with most people thinking he was dreaming.

Did he say that? As far as I know they wrote on their whiteboard that they wanted 4 inside 40, that's it.

Roughead is contracted beyond next season. You think Cox and JT are going to stay on? No chance I would have thought.

Cox definitely, JT will write his own future in the coming season. I also thought Roughy only signed a 1 year extension.
