I like the idea of 16 and future first for 8 and 29.

Is there any remote chance that Thilthorpe or Phillips could be there at 8 or is that just impossible lol
our pick next year could honestly be around 5/6.

possibly pick 5 + 16 for 8 + 29? almost as bad as some of the trades yesterday

So we’ll have traded Treloar, Stephenson, Atu, Phillips and both this year and next years first rounders for an untried key forward....

fu** this kid had better be worth it......
That's what I don't get, about people's attitude to trading. If we traded 2 first rounders for an AFL star we'd be accused of overpaying, yet the same people want to trade 2 first rounders for an under 18 kid based on some WAAFL youtube video where he was playing third forward.

If we get the same amount of injuries as recent years who steps in? It's very possibly we finish as low as 13/14
Definitely possible. The flipside is that only having Treloar, Stepho and Phillips out would have been an outstanding year for us injury wise. So if we do have a decent run of injury, our list of fit players will be better than it's been for years. You'd have to hope that a couple of Browns, Rantall, Murphy, Bianco, keane, Wilson will step up and become decent senior players and our topliners are a bloody good group. I think it's way too early to put us into the bottom half.

But why take the risk when we can simply trade the pick next year when we know its real worth?

Tend to agree, you also lose a bit of its price due to delayed gratification. Probably really depends on how highly you rate this year's group versus next year's group.

The only reason I can think of is if you know for sure a bid for Reef is coming before our pick 16.
If a bid comes before 14 unfortunately we have no choice but to let him go unless we rate him super high and can work some quick trades to move out both picks

Agree. Although I wouldn't be confident in our blokes working out something quick on draft night if a bid does come.

So what will pick 6 get us from you guys?
With 6,7,8 I wouldn’t put it past Dodo to put in a bid for guys like Jones and McInness

You're a day late. Yesterday, we would have given you Grundy, DeGoey and Moore for pick 6.

I agree entirely, getting two top-twenty talents, plus Reef, would be better. Then see what's what next year.

But I fear that there may well be the stink of desperation around the place, driving a big splash approach (again*).

* Reference the splash out on Beams when Lynch moved to Punt Road.

Part of me is glad we haven't traded up yet, in case the player we really want is gone by the time our new pick comes around.

But part of me is a bit concerned that any club we try to swap with will hold the bargaining power. I think the live pick swap is never going to be close to fair value.

After the last week we had, it could be catastrophic!

For mine we should keep next years 1st til next year. Who knows who will be available or who we may want to trade out in 2021? First rd pick can play a big part in all of that.

Trade out pick 14 + 16 for the Bombers pick 8 + 29... with a gentleman’s agreement they don’t bid on McInnes with their picks 6-7.

We land a player we rank top 10 in the draft plus McInnes

And the collection of later picks on draft night we can either bundle up to get closer in if there is a name left on the board we like.... or trade away for Daicos points in 2021

Yep. I understand he has been performing at senior level, but the downfall of other similarly ranked junior key forwards still shakes the faith...

I can’t see it happening myself anyway. It was probably was on the cards if we managed to get pick 5 of GC for Treloar though.

Personally I’d also rather take the 3-4 selections in the teens than trade them for a single top ten and later picks.

Clubs rank players vastly different in a normal year. Given the lack of exposure it’s going to be even more extreme this year. It’s likely there will be players we rate much higher still available much later.
