Both of those players were significantly bigger bodied even when young. Cox does fit the Hine narrative of built like a stick insect type.

For comparisons. Pies dont have a great history of turning these guys around...WHE STEPHO FRASER Richards etc.

Reid was a stick when drafted and filled out well. Kelly seems to be filling out slowly but surely too. I’m not sure Stevo is a good example to use if his rumoured aversion to the weights room is true. Hard to build up your body when you don’t lift at all.

Was baldwin the one with a knee? My bad thought it was callow.
Yep that’s Baldwin. Hasn’t played for two years because he ruptured his right ACL twice. Talent wise he’s on another level to Callie, but that knee is a big worry.

This guy is more agile and aggressive then Ben Brown. Brown is on railway tracks and is not physical.

Apparently, the experts say he doesn't have any upside, lol, never heard of such shit. The bloke was playing seniors this year and played really well. He is the best mark for his age that i have seen for ages, very nice kick and effective at ground level. Hope we take a risk on him

Well you know that’s just a backup plan if he doesn’t make it as a forward 😂
At Collingwood we like to turn our forwards in to defenders (Moore, Reid) and our defenders in to forwards (Checkers, Kelly). None of this bullshit, playing guys where they’re most naturally suited to!

you just made it a certainty that we'll draft him
When was the last time we drafted someone with knee issues? Don’t say Scharenberg, because that was a foot issue. His knees went after his feet were fixed.

Taz + Reid - although stacking too much bulk on a skinny frame may have played a role in his body collapsing.

Taz always had the frame and was a self motivated gym junkie. This is Taz in 1999.

Reid also was quite broad across the chest and shoulders just needed to add to it neither had frames like D.Thomas, WHE Stephenson and Nik Cox. Think 2nd year Reid.

I was talking generally - players we've taken risks on recently where it didn't work out:

- Beams - 2nd time round
- Wells

what you say about Scharenberg is correct but nevertheless we took a risk on a player with known body issues and it didn't really work out

There's been a couple of guys who recruiters have passed up because they say they aren't tall enough to be a key forward, have little upside, or were more physically developed in u19 football.

Darling is the best example, but there was also a lot of hype over Tim Membrey and he slipped through as well. This reminds me of that situation. At the end of the day, every player is going to get bigger and stronger and AFL level. I would say having the frame and the natural talent already would have to be a bonus. It seems to me too much focus goes to players who can go from 0 to 10, as opposed to guys who start off at 6 and can get to say 8.

The first alternative is higher reward, but also way more risk.

Didn't Checkers play forward before he went back for a year in 2017 at Port?

If I recall correctly Kelly also played forward in juniors before going back his U18 year?

Don’t know about Checkers. Kelly played briefly forward in his draft year and struggled before thriving in defence for the rest of the year. He went from being a late/rookie prospect to a second rounder off the back of his work in defence. He’s a natural in the position, apparently reads the play and intercepts really well, so I have no idea why we’re trying to turn him in to a forward tbh.

Probably because we already have two natural intercept defenders in Howe and (now) Moore?

Cox, Ford, Reef and Callow would be a great haul....I've been bullish on Ford for a while now. He does replace Stevo and then some, maybe doesn't have the speed/endurance ratio but he's a tackling machine and a willing worker both ways.

I’d be really happy with this also. Perkins could be interchangeable with Ford but those highlights of Ford are pretty impressive.

I’m sensing we thought there were plenty of Stevo replacements in this draft along the lines of these guys and they could slot straight in.

Ford is a bit of a freak, he has huge hands, he can pick the ball up off the ground with one hand, could be anything

I can already imagine a club like GWS trading 2 of their picks for the lick were eyeing off. And it's gonna hurt.
PMbangers on the draft board just made an interesting suggestion of our 2021 first and pick 16 for GC’s 5, 27 and 37. I like that suggestion tbh. Gives us a real shot at Thilthorpe or Phillips and gives us more than sufficient points for Reef, and likely a pick to take Callow with.

I can't see us getting all 3 of those picks unfortunately.

But that would be the dream.

Phillips 😍

It depends on what GC’s plans are, but at this point they need to shed players, not recruit lots, and they already have any Academy players they want for free. Trading in to next years draft would be far more beneficial for them than taking a bunch to this years.

Probably under rating 5 there personally but that's a decent skeleton for a trade imo, they won't use 27 and 37, and the points end up being more than 16 so that trade alone is fair enough

With the perception being that we will slide next year, I'd be looking to trade our 2021 first round pick for GWS's pick 15, pick 55 and their future third rounder plus a handshake agreement that they won't bid on Reef at 13.

This will give us 14, 15, 16 in the draft which should all hopefully come before Reef. We should then have enough points to match a Reef bid at 17+. We then also have the optionality to trade back into the second/third round this year after matching Reef's bid on the night if there's a slider that we like which I'd imagine there will be plenty. Suddenly we could have an influx of 4-5 top end talent in one draft and form the core of our next flag window after the Grundy/Adams/Moore/JDG era.

Essendon and GWS are probably our biggest threats of bidding on Reef.

Is there much difference on players ranked 16-22?

Could Adelaide be interested in pick 16 for 22 and 23?

14, 22, 23. Plus trading out next year’s first for a top 10 pick? Or if we can’t is it worth considering picks 18 and 19 from Melbourne for next year’s first?

10, 14, 22, 23
14, 16, 18, 19 or
14, 18, 19, 22, 23?

Adelaide 1, 9, 16

If we spend one pick on Reef, at least we have another for Callow if he is someone we want to punt on?

GWS have NGAs coming out of their ears every year. I can't see them bidding on anyone's players unless they've done it to them in the past. Yes they bid on Quaynor, and we thought it was early, but in hindsight maybe it wasn't.

Essendon would be silly not to use 6 and 7 and then trade 8 for something next year. They've got Eye and Brand and, although they have handed out bids like Oprah in the past, I doubt they will want to encourage anyone to return the favour this year.

I really need to compile a list of bids in previous years and keep an eye on revenge bids! For example there's no way we bid on anyone this year, in hopes they let Daicos slide a little (like Green did).
