If someone bids on him in the top ten, and we match, then so be it. Just means someone else rated him top ten and we quite possibly do too. Teams won't risk a bid just to play funny buggers.

But that doesn't mean we rate him top 10. Just because he is an academy player doesn't necessarily mean he is our top pick.

They will. He can be whoever you want him to be. forward. back. mid. He is taller than any of our players bar a few. He is versatile. If you want a mid who can win the ball, who is a big bodied, at 17 years old. Who can take a mark. Kick a goal.

There really is no losing.

I don't doubt he is a good prospect. What i mean is that if the Pies rate him in the top 10 of this draft and so match IF say Essendon bid on him at 8, then I hope they get it right by passing up on other prospects.

I know. But that will be very unlikely we'll see a bid for him that early. Many players above him at that early in the draft. That's not a bad thing, just because of no footy, and his injury.

Well I have a good feeling about this draft. 2 picks in the 1st round and the possibility of picking up another 1st round prospect in Reef, and that would be a major win. Also, seems to be some really good talls here, so I suspect we will get a good mix of kids which could allow us to really review the list hard over the next 12 months and move out those who just aren't improving and keep refreshing with young talent.

I’ve been wrestling with this too.

Did I read yesterday that we can use points from late picks to match bids and we don’t have to use our next available (ie we don’t need to use 14 or 16 if we bring picks in)?

If so, I like the thinking earlier of trying to trade a future second to the suns for picks 27 and the next if they are only taking one live pick in the draft.

That's incorrect unfortunately - points used to match a bid will still be taken from a club's next pick(s) in draft order as per usual.

What has changed is that a club like the Bulldogs with 5 later round picks can use all of them to match a bid on JUH, even if they only walked into the draft with 2 or 3 senior list spots available.

Normally a club is restricted to having only as many "active" picks in the draft as they have senior list spots available, for bid matching purposes.

If we trade up the draft, is that so we can guarantee that no one bids on Reef? just trying to get my head around it. So, we would have to trade 14 and 16 to say get a top 10 pick, then hopefully swap next years first for this year and have say pick 8 and 15 plus Reef. Is that right coz this shit does my head in

Reef has a 5cm growth spurt coming up. He’s going to be the KPF we need, he’s just holding growing until after the draft so we can get him cheaper
