Our best chance to get a key forward this draft is to hope North take McDonald at pick 2 and we wait two years.

If he's as big a Collingwood fan as claimed then we need to be ruthless and get in his ear early next season and encourage him to hold off on any contract extension that is sure to be offered.

I think it’s a must to try and get a top 10 pick. Even if we have to do a deal with the Bombers and then have a handshake not to bid Reef. We will lock in a KPP at the very least. If it means we have to take Reef with our second pick and end up with an extra R2 pick so be it.

Potentially we could cash in say 14 + 2021 R1 for 8. Or if they were being particularly difficult swap a R2 for their R3 next year or something. Though perfect getting another pick in the 20s or early 30s would be good.

So heading in with say 8, 16, 25-35. I think if we can convince the Bombers not to bid we will be safe from a Reef bid before 16. Grab a Reid/Cox then best available with 16 (maybe Chapman or a Cook/Ford, maybe make a bid on an Academy player), then match Reef with that third pick.

Worst case is we still get a bid before 16 for Reef, we match and then pick a Callow or if there’s a slider with the next pick and still walk away with two KPP and Reef.

I really want GC’s pick 5 though more likely they will trade 27 (as they only need one pick). We could certainly get DGB if we get that. Imagine if we could get DGB and Chapman to combine the WA KPDs then match Reef.

Today's episode of On the road to the draft mentioned that we're keen to bid on Blake Coleman from the Lions Academy.

;)

I didn't want to say anything because I respected the source.

Apparently we have to take 6 players in the draft this year unless we stock up on DFA's. Does anyone know if that means we need to take some DFA's before the draft otherwise we will be forced to take 6 players, or can we say take 4 players in the draft then top up after it?

Minimum list size going into 2021 is 37 (36 senior list + 1 rookie) isn't it? With our 4 current rookies, that would mean that we only have to take 3 selections in the ND.

"North Melbourne will also reportedly keep two spots on their list open following the draft in order to sign a player in the pre-season and mid-season signing periods".

Does this mean we wont be required to take 6 players on draft night?

I would have assumed that clubs have the option to add players to the primary rather than rookie list via the two signing periods above should that be required to meet a minimum number. If not I would then assume we could elevate any rookie currently on our list and replace them with new rookie additions during these periods.

Personally I have no interest in taking 6 players next week if our overwhelming motivation for adding a couple of those players isn't their potential but meeting some arbitrary number set by the AFL.

Minimum list size is 37 so we only have to take 3, could then look to the pre-season and mid-season periods to fill the remaining quotas.

yeah, likely our 2nd one. Was touted in the mid 20's range ranking wise anyway

Was he? I can't recall seeing his name anywhere in the mock drafts. Wasn't taken at all in the BS Phantom draft was he? I reckon he'd be one that we might look at with our later picks.

EDIT: My bad, the Dees took him at 18.

I doubt he had North in mind as that one club.;)

Besides I wouldn't put to much stock in what these teenagers say as the excitement builds towards them living out their dream.

Remember de Goey on draft night when all pumped up on adrenaline?

He's still being reminded of that comment despite it not being worth a damn.

Collingwood could throw the first curveball of the 2020 national draft by placing an early bid on Brisbane Lions Academy prospect Blake Coleman.
The Magpies currently hold two first round selections (14 and 16), with the small forward - and younger brother of Lions player Keidean - a player of interest for the club.

Collingwood is set for a bumper national draft with the club set to take the most picks into the event on Wednesday December 9. Their current list size is the lowest in the entire competition.

Coleman played QAFL this year and could yet join his older brother on the Brisbane list if they elect to match a bid for him.

The Pies are currently in a delicate space given a bid on Academy prospect Reef McInnes is likely to be situated close to their two picks in the teens.

The tall midfielder showed his skills throughout 2019 and recently took out the 20m sprint test at the Victorian draft combine with a time of 2.78 seconds.

Draft sources have told Foxfooty.com.au the Bombers have spoken openly of potentially swapping Pick 8 with the Pies, but an official offer is yet to come.

Collingwood Next Generation Academy member Reef McInnes.

Collingwood is also looking to move its 2021 first round pick, given the selection will be wiped by a likely top-five bid on father-son star Nick Daicos.

Best case scenario is it's our 2021 first rounder for pick 8 and we keep 14/16 but no way Essendon goes for that.

Adrian no way would do that.

He would want Pick 14 and Future 1st for Pick 8

Hight Doubt he take that and Once you trade your Future 1st Round you can't trade anymore of your Future Picks

We can this year Dave. We have 2 x future 2nd rounders. We can give our first and Dogs future 2nd. Not sure we’d do this though as would really eat into our Daicos points for next year.

future 1st and future 2nd rounder for pick 8?
That would probably be fair, albeit in Essendons favour, which is to be expected. So there’s absolutely no way Dodo would do that. He’ll want 2 firsts because he’s a flog.
