Callow and Baldwin could be
Baldwin could be if he wasn’t coming off 2 knee reco’s and 2 years of missed footy. The only power rankings I’ve seen with Callow that high are KM’s. Everything else I’ve seen has him mid/late second onwards.

Agreed, but not just that, pairing Macrae and Powell together just doesn’t really do it for me. Particularly Powell but looking at that board there’s not a whole heaps left. Just shows how badly we need to move up the order.
I’d prefer we took a chance on Ford as that dynamic forward to replace Stephenson. 2 mids is more than enough with Daicos coming in next year.

There are more talls than people think. They just aren't all in the top half of the draft
Yes, but when there hasn’t been a quality tall prospect drafted by the club in the first round for nearly 15 years, it should be something of a priority. Especially when the club has openly said they rate the talls at the top end of this draft.

Bugger. I wanted in on that pick 37 from the Suns. They clearly weren’t going to use it. Thought maybe we could have traded a future 3rd for more Reef points.

They won’t use their second rounders either. If they still have them by the time a Reef bid happens we should be going hard for a pick swap with them.

And on the new episode of road to the draft, they are talking about Nik Cox going top 10... that Essendon would look at him at one of their picks..

Funnily enough if we could secure picks 10 and 29 from GWS (if they wanted to Gamble on our 2021 first and second round picks falling inside of picks 10 and 29) then 29 + 65 would cover a bid on Reef at 22.

Pick 37 will probably leave us a bit short even with picks disappearing via bid matches (which would be largely offset by clubs moving up the order when they match) so we'd need to bring in another pick.

Yes as I mentioned Macrae, Ford and Reef would be three picks I would walk away from the draft happy with.

The question from there is whether we can secure that 4th pick inside the top 10, which may not even happen until the pick in question comes around and the player we want is there on the board.

While I'd like is to do our 2021 first and second for GWS pick 10 and 29 and I think GWS should bite (as it will potentially pan out as pick 13 and something in the early 30s for maybe pick 10-12 and a pick in the late 20's at worst in an uncompromised draft) the reality is that we'd probably have to overpay a little to make that happen on draft night and then figure out what we're going to do about Nick Daicos next year.

Yeah. I think you'd have to do 16 and future first for them to do that trade.

No way is our future first an appropriate price to pay for a 4 pick move up the draft order this year. I agree with the basic sentiment though, in terms of the prospects of getting pick 10 off GWS for any sort of reasonable deal on draft night being a pipe dream.

Arrgghhh this is taking me back to a dark time when we were gazumped on another 190cm+ smooth mover with a decent tank who was skilled on both sides of the body...

6 pick move up. They may consider this sort of thing on draft night if someone they're really keen on is still available and unlikely to get to 14.

We need to get a pick early enough to grab one of Cox or Reid.

Think we will have to give up too much to get inside the top ten

maybe eye off North’s pick 11

keep our powder dry on the night until we know the player we want is still there but concerned enough to think he may go before our first pick ( 14 )

our pick 16 plus 1st next year for pick 11 and norths second next year

Can Reid or Cox play FF. My understanding is they are more FB HB types. The top FFs of the draft are down the order apart from the obvious Macdonald and Thilthorpe. What’s wrong with going for a FF FF like Callow or Baldwin? Especially if the are 2nd rounders. If we get in Macrae (better than his brother) Ford (Rozee like?) and Reef than trade back into the draft for Callow or Baldwin I’d be absolutely smitten. With Brodie our Ruck and Moore holding down back for quite a while we get the midfield replacements ready to kick to Kelly and Callow (Kennedy and Darling??)

I'm not expecting us to engage in any pick swaps until draft night but I'm starting to wonder whether we've done ourselves mischief by so publicly declaring our desire to trade up the draft in our desperate post-trade justification/PR spin.

Can't help but feel like whilst we may indeed successfully trade up, we may get reamed "points wise" and it may not look like an equitable trade, simply because other clubs know we'll stop at next-to-nothing to improve our draft hand.

I guess I'm just mentally preparing for us to get shafted, just like I did during the trade period.

That would go against the hope of snaring three first round picks plus Reef. Even 16 plus something in the 10-12 range next year (assuming we finish somewhere around the back end of the top 8) would be too much just to get pick 10 back this year imo.

I'd probably rather flip our future first and third for a couple of seconds this year to match the Reef bid and pick up someone like Callow and another future second to help match a bid on Daicos.

I really want us to walk out of this draft with four solid recruits inside the top 30-35 if we can manage it.
