Well with Covid there would not be many Top 10 Guratee Immediate Impact as Cox or Reid no Gurantee to make a Impact in 2021
Yea but they are prospects with more exposure in their position than Reef. They both played a full season as a defender/utility last year which is what they would be drafted as. If you draft Reef as a mid, you’ve only got 3 (albeit impressive) games to base that off.

Then would we then see lot more Kids/Prospects getting Drafted from Interstate then Vic Kids as not seen them play since the Pre-Season

I think it’s a must to try and get a top 10 pick. Even if we have to do a deal with the Bombers and then have a handshake not to bid Reef. We will lock in a KPP at the very least. If it means we have to take Reef with our second pick and end up with an extra R2 pick so be it.

Potentially we could cash in say 14 + 2021 R1 for 8. Or if they were being particularly difficult swap a R2 for their R3 next year or something. Though perfect getting another pick in the 20s or early 30s would be good.

So heading in with say 8, 16, 25-35. I think if we can convince the Bombers not to bid we will be safe from a Reef bid before 16. Grab a Reid/Cox then best available with 16 (maybe Chapman or a Cook/Ford, maybe make a bid on an Academy player), then match Reef with that third pick.

Worst case is we still get a bid before 16 for Reef, we match and then pick a Callow or if there’s a slider with the next pick and still walk away with two KPP and Reef.

I really want GC’s pick 5 though more likely they will trade 27 (as they only need one pick). We could certainly get DGB if we get that. Imagine if we could get DGB and Chapman to combine the WA KPDs then match Reef.
Handshake, is that what we had with the Doggies?

I doubt any guys who are available as free agents would bother nominating for the draft Dave.

Depends how much interest they’re getting I’d assume. Wouldn’t bother if they’ve got an offer.

Not if Essendon bid for Reef.

With live trading available it would be best to wait until draft night before finalising any trade with Adelaide and after the Essendon selections.

If Essendon were to bid on Reef at pick 8 we would then lose 14 to match the bid and if my numbers are correct our pick 16 to be on traded to Adelaide as part of this proposed deal would fall back to pick 18.

We would then be free to select a player at selection No.9.

Another option more beneficial for Adelaide (and thus more likely for them to entertain it) would be to conduct part of the trade prior to draft night.

This is how i could see it going down.

Best case scenario?:

Pick 14, 65 for pick 23, 40 prior to draft night.

If Essendon bid at 8 for Reef we would lose pick 16 and see pick 23 fall to pick 30 approximately after the 20% discount is applied.

Pick 9 for our 2021 1st round selection on draft night after the Essendon selections

Personally I just can't see Adelaide who finished last trading away a 2020 top 10 selection for our future first alone unless something else of value in terms of a pick/s upgrade is on offer for them in this seasons draft.

They might think our 1st next year be a High 1st(Top 10)

Makes sense, as there will be kids available in the signing periods who missed out on the draft.

Be interesting to see what clubs do in terms of list structure. Do we keep a rookie list spot or a senior list spot (or 2) for those mid season draft opportunities? I’d personally like to see us take advantage of moving 2 player to the rookie list to get the $160k TPP relief. We already have Noble and Keane. Could move (for example) Lynch and Greenwood. Could then promote a player if you prefer to fill a rookie list spot at the mid season draft.

Not if Essendon bid for Reef.

Pick 9 would cover a bid from Essendon and we’d still get 3 other top 30 kids and McInnes. That’s not a bad haul.

That’s really got nothing to do with what I said.

Why would they bother either way? If a club can just list them they’re not going to bother using a draft pick on them, and if they want to rookie them then they can pick them as a supplemental rookie selection later on. Putting themselves through the draft process is a pointless exercise.

I’d be shocked if anyone bids on Reef in the top 10.
You would need to have either serious balls to play that bluff and be prepared to actually go through with it
If someone picked him, it wouldn't be a bluff. Just takes one club to rate him a fair bit higher than the bigfooty or journalist consensus. Hopefully it doesn't happen though.

Reef needs to get on the piss and get arrested for drunk and disorderly or something to deminish his value before draft day, take one for the team boy!!

A thought from left field - give WB a better salary subsidy for AT in exchange for a deal on their picks.
Win/win.
You mean like a trade they could have done...?

There are a lot of DFAs, especially this year, and more than a few who’ll want another chance. If they’re not listed then via the drafts is their only option.

Keep banging on about it but 16, future first and 2nd for 9, 22, 23.

If Ess are dumb enough to bid inside top 10 let them have him then we will get a slider.

Maybe he's actually worth a pick in the top 10.

We paid 5 for pendles when the rest of the league had him rated around 16 onward.

You dont get many 2.8 sec 193cm inside capable mid fwd back versatile players every year...

Brisbane and a promise not to bid on Coleman. They might be keen for that as they have that mid 20s and some valuable points matching.

I’m more than happy to say to Essendon though and say “okay take him, we will move up to 9 and get the kid you would normally pick”. That could be a Bruhn, Perkins or a tall.

McInnes is a great talent with high upside but he’s not a Nick Daicos who you’d move heaven and earth for. Would I like him? Of course. But not at the expense of a top 10 pick. Mid teens yep, but he’s not a top 10 pick.

Given most vic boys havent played this year its quite concievable had they played hed be in the top 10 if given mid duties all year.
Its like bont and pendles who both bolted up the draft board in their final year.

On his previous exposed form plus his athletic testing id be happy to match it. Reckon a 193cm speedster with good inside bull work could very quickly bite you on the arse if you overlooked him.
Collingwood more then any club should be in a box position on where his potential ceiling lies.

You pick kids based solely on their upside in the late first round or early second round at earliest. Top 10 picks should be reserved for kids who have the highest chance of making it. If you don’t think he’s in the top 10 best kids based on both output and potential then you don’t pick him. Pretty simple.

Top 10 is for the best talents full stop and potential is also taken into account with them.
