Heard someone say eariler in the thread that you can fix a poor tank, i have an athletics background and it isn't as simple as that i'm sorry to say, being fast doesn't mean you have stamina no more than having stamina means you're fast.

He came last in the endurance test, if he gets a bid inside the top 20 let him fly, fly fly away!!

We had a much better picks that year. Shame the Dogs bid on Darcy, an excellent haul, could have been even better

Shame the AFL changed the FS rules effective that year or we’d have gotten Moore for a 3rd round pick.

I’d be curious to know about what impact his back injury has had on his training loads this year before I started making definitive calls on his endurance

Back injury and he ran the best 20mtr? Ok, just pisses me off when people say "we can fix his tank", cracks me up in fact, if you don't have it you don't have it, endurance like speed can be improved, but if you come last in a 2k whilst trying to prove yourself i aren't holding out much hope for that player.

You don't aquire an AFL tank, you were born with it, match a bid in the second round IMO.

Yeah I have to admit, that’s ******* infuriating. We should have been working our bums off to get those kind of value picks.
we have always been terrible at trading for picks for picks. Never any foresight. We got caught behind when this first came out and even now we seem to only have 1 strategy and that is to offer Essendon something for one of their picks. And as usual, we have everything pinned on this that we will get caught out at the death because we hadn't bothered seriously exploring all options.

No doubt with there being no U/18 competition this year, there will be some great pick ups later in the draft.
I'd be getting as many picks as we can and throw darts. Probably just as likely to have more than usual busts in the top 10 and great players later in the draft

I remember there was critiscm of Cripps tank

Even Dusty always had question marks over his tank

I actually quite like the idea of having more picks later because a lot of teams will drop out. Sure they look crap now, but chances are picks in the 70s will become picks in the 50s. It might not be the value of picks in other drafts, but as Billys Back said, we could get good value late. We always see players drop right down and often we're surprised by who's left so late, and this year we could pick up the scraps.

You're almost guaranteed to get some form of a draftable tall back then be it a Lord or another project tall. I also would not be shocked if Callow was still there back then (expecting late second / early third but not out of realms), because he's one who will have a few fans with clubs, but then a lot who won't consider him. Baldwin even more so I honestly expect to be there. Genuinely we could grab him with a pick in the 50s, but I'd worry with our success of picking up injured players what that means for the future. Given we would have multiple picks back there, it would be worth it.

I bet a team like Richmond picks up Baldwin. They'll escape scrutiny if he continues having injury issues and can't get on the park.

Or GWS will because of their "gotta collect 'em all" tall forward mentally.

Grundy comes last in the 2km every year. Would you consider him to have poor endurance, or would you say he consistently blows up his opponent with his ability to get around the ground? Maynard was drafted with poor endurance. Cripps was drafted with poor endurance. Hodge was recruited with poor endurance.
You don’t have to turn these guys in to marathon runners. Endurance as a general rule can be improved significantly once a player enters the system.

I think as well, some players need to be chasing the ball to will themselves on. You should also factor in the addiction to get to that next contest to help your team mates. Running around a track is ****ing boring.

Cripps came last in the 3km (at the time) with an 11.55. You’re talking shit.

Endurance is fixable. Its about consistent training to build upon it.

Cant improve speed or toughness.

One thing you don’t want to do is too many kilometres running with a crook back.

.....he May have over achieved in the Time trial, depends on how you look at it I suppose.

Apparently has been rehabing stress fractures in his back. Something to do with his growth spurt. Unsure how much footy he would have played this year if the NAB league had gone ahead. Others might be able to elaborate further.

I believe he said, the covid was a blessing in disguise, as it gave him take to rest it. He wouldn't have been able to do much fitness in the early parts of this year because of it. So his endurance suffered because of it. So what. He's 17, who cares about the time trial lol He'll be okay.

Grundy had the exact same back issue in his draft year.

And Grundy was a much worse time trial runner.

So we are going to draft someone with stress fractures in his back at 17! Can't we select someone with a clean bill of health for a change?

Apparently now has a clean bill of health. Not an uncommon injury.
