Hawks bound?

One of them considering them. I'm more interested in what Adelaide does, because what the Crows do will trigger the rest of the order. My belief is if Hollands is off the board in the first two picks, then Phillips won't make it to five. If Hollands is available, then there's a good chance Phillips can still make it there.

Sydney are the wildcard. Basically anyone they say they are considering, pick someone else. Hawks are very similar in that regard.

Last year, Flanders to Sydney was plastered everywhere. eDPS was the only person I know who said nup Sydney will take [PLAYERCARD]Dylan Stephens[/PLAYERCARD]. In fact, his accuracy was so good that it was only Carlton's choice to bid Henry ahead of Green that stopped him winning the $10k.

If those clubs supporters were annoyed the Blues bid on their players, imagine poor Ed who had to watch their decision to bid Henry then Green instead of Green then Henry, and miss out on $10k by tiny amount.

Basically Hollands won't make it past the top three (not including when JUH's come in). It will depend on what club picks him up, as to whether Phillips makes it to #5, but every chance he isn't there. Gut feeling is Hawks still go big, but they would be seriously considering Phillips as well I'd imagine.

Swans have some good mids coming through, not to mention the ones they'll get in their academy this year. Swans have been pretty strongly linked to DGB

That’s way more than needed. A 10% improvement would bring his 2k time down to 6.45, which is well within AFL standards. A 15% improvement would bring his time down to the low 6m mark which is Sidey/Phillips territory. 7.10 is slow by AFL standards for a 2k run, but that time can be brought down to acceptable levels with proper training. Iirc, Reef hasn’t done a preseason for 2 years and has had to rest his back for the bulk of this year. There’s absolutely no reason that he can’t significantly improve his tank given those circumstances.

Yeah, I made sure I talked him up prior to the pick on our Draft stream so everyone knew if it happened he was right.

Ed gets first dibs at predicting the top few picks because of it. I remember asking literally half a dozen people (including like Matt Balmer etc.) what they thought and they were all certain it was Flanders, so it's a pretty good get from Ed there.

Wonder if they're doing it again with the $$$ though might $10 instead given the tight finances.

I understand he’ll never be elite, but how much will he be able to improve his endurance. Is 40-50% likely?

Depends on his ceiling, mental as well as physical, i see kids in school athletics who don't compete in little athletics and do zero training dominate the 800 at regional level, a friend of my sons ran low 2.40s in the 9/10s age group, i asked him how often he ran and he said he never had, just had a massive tank and a strong will, with training he would be very competitve at state level, my boy (same age) does athletics and can't crack 3.00.

PICK 18: COLLINGWOOD – CONOR STONE

Clubs:

Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro

Position: Forward

Size: 188cm/81kg

Bio: Clubs pouring through vision of Stone in 2019 will be coming across one standout match, given the forward slotted five goals on NAB League debut for the Chargers. His acceleration can help him get ahead of his opponent close to goal, with the medium tall possessing good overhead marking ability. Stone has smarts and has pinpoint accuracy from set shot attempts. Given his athletic capabilities, clubs might try and develop him to play further up the ground in the future.

In the mix: It will be hard for the Pies to find a key forward at this stage of the draft but the medium forward is someone they would’ve seen over recent years. Chapman and Brayden Cook are others that suits a need for the club. This would likely be the furthest Stone gets, given the interest in the back-end of the top 10.



PICK 19: COLLINGWOOD – REEF MCINNES (BID MATCHED)

Clubs: Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro

Position: Midfielder

Size: 193cm/86kg

Bio: The Collingwood next-generation Academy prospect broke the record in the 20m sprint, recording a time of 2.78s. However, it won’t officially count due to the large wind behind Victorian players at the combine. The Charger can play anywhere on the ground but looms as a midfielder down the track. He does need to improve his endurance, but his tank is sure to grow after a few pre-seasons at the next level. He is one of the better stoppage midfielders and is willing to back himself to step around opponents and get the ball moving forward.

In the mix: It’s a difficult one to place a bid on McInnes. Collingwood might be best served moving one of their selections in the draft in order to avoid it being wiped.

After an extremely tumultuous trade period there is huge pressure on Collingwood list manager Ned Guy and recruiting chief Derek Hine to secure a strong result come draft night. Probably the biggest point of fascination from a Pies' perspective on Wednesday night is when a bid lands for big-bodied midfielder Reef McInnes, a member of the club's next generation academy. Once widely viewed as a late first-round or early second-round selection, there is industry speculation that both Essendon and Adelaide are considering bidding on McInnes with their picks currently inside the top 10. This would be a bad result for the Pies, who would have their first pick absorbed should they choose to match a bid for McInnes that early. There is also talk the Bombers could trade their third top 10 pick to the Pies for multiple later selections.

The hunted could yet turn the hunters though with the Pies also keen on Brisbane academy player Blake Coleman, potentially forcing the Lions' hand inside the first round. Versatile tall Nik Cox would be well-suited to the Pies if he's still on the board come the time of their first selection but other clubs are lurking. Heath Chapman and Brayden Cook are among the others likely to fall around the range of the Pies' first two picks as they stand. A key forward is clearly an area of need for the Pies, and given they are unlikely to land one of the top-end prospects, the likes of Tasmania's Jackson Callow and South Australia's Kaine Baldwin loom as likely options later in the piece, according to insiders. Baldwin is a fascinating case study. Once rated as one of the standout players in the pool, he has suffered consecutive ACL injuries.

DGB doing a number on McDonald in a game where McDonald got off to a fast start before DGB was shifted onto him is also one of the very few examples we have of top end talents going against each other directly this year.
