I didn't see anything contested. He looks like he could be a hit up target, but the game has moved away from that type of forward.Reef looks a pretty natural forward from highlight vids.

Height shmight. Can he read the ball flight, protect the drop zone, hit high balls hard. I rate Hine, but think he's so wrong in chasing talls from other sports, I'd put converting a mid into a KPP in the same category. Height and athleticism are pretty useless for a KPP if they can't read the ball flight. You can't tell that outside of footy. Of all the recruits from other sports has there ever been one that was a good mark.
I suspect you're right, just don't think it will be as a KPF target. He can do all those things you mentioned that a forward needs to do. From what I've been told, it's his forward craft that has recruiters salavating, They know he can go forward and impact. I would bet my last dollar that he begins his career as a forward and be very good at it

We have even more defenders, and our forwards ain’t that crash hot, especially if JDG moves in to the middle like many are predicting he will.I suspect you're right, just don't think it will be as a KPF target.
Edit: actually I think he might start us as a defender as we've still got a heap of medium forwards.
True. I'm probably thinking defence because I'd like JDG to stay forward and Maynard to go into the middle. We have even more defenders, and our forwards ain’t that crash hot, especially if JDG moves in to the middle like many are predicting he will.
He’s had more exposure playing 3rd tall forward or defender than he has had midfield where he got a couple of runs when the normal mids at Oakleigh were away on other duties.
Yes, but I think that you can learn to play mid or any other position if you've got the attributes and have shown spacial awareness in other roles and sports, whereas reading the ball flight quicker than others, of an oval ball spinning like a drop punt doesn't get transferred from other sports. If he was good enough to do it at the level needed for AFL, he'd already be playing that role. He’s had more exposure playing 3rd tall forward or defender than he has had midfield where he got a couple of runs when the normal mids at Oakleigh were away on other duties.
With the draft likely to be a short one and teams likely to be looking to trade out picks that they're not going to use, I think picks in that range will be much cheaper than you think - might be able to get both of them for a future 2nd. I suspect that Gold Coast may have gotten a reasonable deal when they traded pick 27 for a future 3rd.
I don't think it's clear that they're bidding on him. It could be them initiating the gamesmanship.Seems pretty clear that Adelaide’s bidding on McInnes and we’ve put the word out that we won’t match a bid before our current picks. Bit of gamesmanship going on and I suspect we’ll blink, but unless a trade is done I’ll be backing in Cal’s phantom.

Definite possibility that it's part of a negotiation for a pick swap.

If he grows another 2 cms we have a Cripps size mid.At 193 he’s already the same height as Baldwin and only 1cm shy of Callow, a cm taller than Checkers. I’m certainly not restricting my thinking toward him being amid. As you say, if he grows another cm or 2 he’s getting into that genuine KPP height.
We’ll see I guess. It won’t be Adelaide we swap picks with unless it’s 2 1sts for that current pick 9.

That's a good point.Like with Moore in 2014 we saying we are not going to match a High Bid hoping stop teams Matching High

We've got four late picks with points. Someone posted their calculations the other day, factoring in that these picks will move up as multiple picks will be used on the likes of JUH and co. He thinks we'll be able to match a bid in the early 20s if the other academy kids go in the expected order. Earlier and it will be a small deficit moving one of next year's picks back a few places.Curious to know whether anyone knows the answer to this...
Not factoring in bids or live trades, let's say we used pick 14 and 16. Then someone bids on Reef with pick 17.
Obviously we've got 65, 66 sitting there with points value but at that stage I don't believe we have enough points for McInnes if that bid came.
However, by the time that teams with only 2-3 selections start to pass, those mid 60s could come around 50, which obviously have much more points value.
I get that the picks just go all the way to the back of the draft and will come back again dependant on how many list spots you're filling...
But do they work out points deficit then and there (with regards to your points-in-hand at the time of bid)? Or do they wait until the end somehow?
I might be confusing myself here...do teams have to declare their maximum picks before the draft?
Yep. Not arguing that, just suggesting that a proper KPF is a long shot even if he grows a few cms.Yeah true, not big contested marks anyway. I think to make it forward now you need to have different avenues to goal. Reef has a good lead and good ground level game going off his midfield performances. I haven't seen enough to really judge how that will translate to forward at AFL level but seems a good foundation to me. At that size and speed.
Why wouldn't we just match the bid? And keep our 2nd first rounder?
16, Future First and Future Second
For 9, 22, 23
...?
Biggest issue it could essentially be 19, Future First (13ish) and Future Second (30ish)
For 11, 27 and 28.
Those 20-something picks will take a fair hit with a McInnes bid.
