reading between the lines i think we are picking up jake lever.

It won't be 8 by the time it gets used though it will be around 10-11. Every chance our 1st next year is inside the top 10.

I know what number it’ll wind up, but you’re getting access to the 8th best player available regardless of the pick number. Either way it’s not happening because there’s every chance our pick next year is outside the top 10 so there’s zero motivation from the other team to accept the deal.

Hoping the club will be proactive in the draft tomorrow night, and have been working in the lead up with other clubs in proposed pick swaps.
With potentially 6 picks, if we can get 4 in the top 35 to 40 picks, as Hine mentions then potentially the club has had a decent night.
Going to be interesting viewing tomorrow night to see how we navigate ourselves around the McInnes situation and getting ourselves a decent draft hand through the night.

I am 100% Sure we are trying to Move Up in the Draft but can we find a Partner to allow us too

I’d be pushing 14/16 to Adelaide for 9 and 23. Then I’d try to deal with GWS with our future first and pick 23 for pick 13, with a handshake that they don’t bid on Reef with 10. That would give us 2 picks before a bid. Getting 2 first round prospects, plus Reef, then trying to grab a couple of late bargains is the best case scenario imo.

This has to be the goal out of tomorrow. Bringing in 3 guys who are rated in the top 15 of the draft injects some real talent into the side. Going off the pinheads draft on the AFL app we could end up with a Reef, Cox, Macrae combo, picking up some talented kids and address some list deficiencies.

You couldn't imagine the club would let Reef slip through their fingers, so I can't see us failing to match any bid. But we would go a long way to improving the list if we can get something before the bid comes.

Few nuggets still though!

- 40 odd live picks
- the aim is 4-5 picks inside 40
- recent trade period setting us up for FA

How much of it comes to pass remains to be seen, but we’ll be busy trade wise by the sounds of it.

I don't think there's much chance we'd look at 23 as part of a trade. That pick would get swallowed up by Reef points. We did a deal the other day to get Reef points from Brisbane. You'd be better off getting a future pick from Adelaide to go with 9. Then either hold on to the future pick, or trade it back into this draft after Reef gets a bid.

To be honest our 3 picks in the 60's only have a combined value of 229pts currently which isn't much and equivalent to pick 54.

Obviously if Reef receives an early bid, we match and we're still in possession of our 1st round selections then the points value of these picks will become irrelevant.

If a bid comes after our 1st round selections then you would expect those picks to have come in and be a little more valuable but even then matching a bid at pick 20 would cost 729pts (after 20% discount) and still far more than we'd have available without pick 23 in the mix.

If we were to do a deal with Adelaide involving picks 14/16 for 9/23 then it's seems pretty obvious we'd only do so if Cox or Reid were still available and I expect we fully hope to trade our future 1st for another 1st round live selection this draft.

Do that and we could look to use 23 to gain more points and while yes this would mean using it to match a bid I don't think that's the end of the world, it's market value for Reef, it would stop us going into deficit when every point might be needed for Daicos and it would stop us eating up all those picks in the 60's which by the time they can be used are likely to be 10 to 15 spots higher.

Matt Bulmer’s phantom on Fox is dire reading. Reef and Stone as our early picks then 4 of the last 6 picks in the draft. That would make the draft a real high risk low return option.

I would think we can do much better. Hopefully trade into Ess last top 10 pick and snag on of Cox/Reid. It’s still some sort of chance no deal gets done for our future 1st and we end up with just the two picks plus the late ones. Big variations in possible outcomes tomorrow.

Hine’s interview was more of the party line about how this is a long term strategy. Guess he can’t say anything else at this stage
