Matt Bulmer’s phantom on Fox is dire reading. Reef and Stone as our early picks then 4 of the last 6 picks in the draft. That would make the draft a real high risk low return option.

I would think we can do much better. Hopefully trade into Ess last top 10 pick and snag on of Cox/Reid. It’s still some sort of chance no deal gets done for our future 1st and we end up with just the two picks plus the late ones. Big variations in possible outcomes tomorrow.

Hine’s interview was more of the party line about how this is a long term strategy. Guess he can’t say anything else at this stage

Hine's interview was all about the levers!

I reckon what we should do is trade this years first rounder and the next 2 years first rounders for the Crows number 1 pick, but instead of picking Logan McDonald as everyone expects we should then pick the player that we were going to draft at 14 anyway. Then when the sh1t hits the fan, we should trade our way back into the draft at pick 8 (where Logan has drifted to due to the concerns on no-one picking him up) and get on the phone to the Crows and tell them we are picking Logan. I reckon that the Crows will then crap their pants and trade back all of our first rounders, their pick 9, and the boot studder for our pick 8 so that they get Logan. We then use pick 9 on Cox and everyone is happy and we've pulled off the greatest trade in daft history!!!!

Disclaimer: I may have watched Draft Day last night......

great movie & great post. 👍

More Proof how Shit our Trade Period Is. Lose 2 top 10 Players on our List and can't get 1 Top 10 Pick

Well he does not want to give Other Teams Hint's on who we might Pick

Looking at that latest phantom only strengthens my hope we use our future 1st to gain another top 20 pick this year.

If we haven't already moved up and secured a tall in Cox or Reid then I'd be tempted to take the punt and go early with Callow.

Coming away from another draft without a genuine kpp prospect would be pretty disheartening IMO.

Talk Callow might not even get Drafted Tommorow Night.

IF you ho early might do for someone like Baldwin

Biggest takeaways for me:

1. We will NOT necessarily be taking the best player as per our internal rankings, shall adjust for the needs. First time to do so.

2. Want to end up with 4 of the first 40 picks by trading in on the day.

3. Can take up to 6 but midseason draft in 2021 could be fascinating due to exposed form, so most likely will keep 1-2 spots free for that.

4. Dekka was one of the few guys (vs other clubs) who was able to watch live junior footy in Qld and SA, he thinks it was very important and will stand him in good stead.

Good summary Dave.

As much as it seemed like he didn’t say anything I actually thought he gave away more than usual.

- Later picks (outside of first round) to be more needs basis. A diversion from previous drafts. Needs to be assessed after first round picks in the books.

- probably only 40 odd live picks, we are hoping for 4 in top 40.

- May not take all 6 picks will be assessed on the night.

- Interesting that he mentioned watching SA kids and the Qld academy players. I get the feeling we may look at Powell, Baldwin from SA and look to bid on Coleman and the Suns academy kid (can’t recall his name Stepho like traits).

- Will look to improve draft position; dialogue with other clubs re: pick swaps.

- trade period a result of long term planning to get into this draft which we like and ability to attack future FAs.

- It also sounded like he was taking Reef down a bit too, ie: no exposure this year, injury history etc. Mentioned him probably starting as a back before moving into mid.

I’m sure there was more but that’s all I can recall off the top of my head.

Also in Dekka's interview.. You read between the lines when talking about reef. He kinda messes up when he says "we " when talking about where we would play him, but then corrects himself in saying "I think he will end up playing back initially"..

Also talks about how it helps they know Reef a lot better than most clubs have more of an idea into him.

Reading between the lines, sounds like we’ll try to move one of our future second rounders into this years draft, targeting some of those teams who are only using 1 or 2 picks.

Would be handy to get one or two picks in the 30’s/40’s.

The Crows have recently interviewed Reef McInnes and showed their intent to bid on the Collingwood Next Generation Academy prospect, with the Pies and Crows also a chance to swap selections within the first round.

The Giants have held talks with Adelaide about potentially swapping picks 13 and 15 for nine and 23 to move up the board

Seem to be Getting Mixed Views from the Media about Reef. Matt Balmer think the Bid be around 20

Yeah. It could go either way.

And if crows swap picks with GWS, then Crows won't be able to bid til pick 13/15, if GWS move up. But if we can grab crows pick instead, even better

Logan MacDonald wants to land at Crows....
Well let’s face it, nobody wants to go to the Roos. We had to send Stephenson there kicking and screaming.

Bugger. 13 & 15 slightly better than our offer of 14 & 16; for 9 & 23.

Wonder if the Crows interest in Reef is trying to force our hand in a pick swap.

Why would he play Reef down back when that is the Strongest area on the Ground we are.

IF we can't Trade Up for KPF I would not mind using our 3rd or 4th Pick on Baldwin. Yes has 2 ACL's but Something we Badly Need and could still be a Good AFL KPF

Later picks (outside of first round) to be more needs basis. A diversion from previous drafts. Needs to be assessed after first round picks in the books.

So we are Aiming for a KPF

Though we have Needs Forward and in the Midfield

I like this one!

17. Collingwood
Nik Cox (tall defender/forward)
Northern Knights/Montmorency FC/Ivanhoe Grammar, 200cm, 87kg

The Pies have signalled a need to bolster their tall stocks and it is widely expected they will take a key position player with one of their two selections in this range. It wouldn't shock if Cox went as early as one of Essendon's early picks but if not he should slide and appears likely to be snapped up by the Magpies.

19. Collingwood

Conor Stone (medium forward/defender)
Oakleigh Chargers/St Kevin's College, 189cm, 83kg

Stone is versatile and renowned for his ball use and decision making. The Giants have shown some interest too but the Pies are keen with rivals expecting them to pounce here. Collingwood's selections will be a big watch this space on draft night given the machinations of a potential bid on McInnes and a possible trade up. Collingwood had been linked with a bid on Brisbane academy forward Blake Coleman but that increasingly looks unlikely at this still early stage of the draft.

20. Collingwood (matching bid from Richmond)
Reef McInnes (tall midfielder/defender)
Oakleigh Chargers/Surrey Park FC/Scotch College, 193cm, 86kg

This would be a terrific result for Collingwood after a wretched off-season. The Crows, Bombers and perhaps the Kangaroos loom as threats earlier in the first round but if they don't pounce McInnes could slide through the teens and land after the Magpies' first two selections. There is also talk the Tigers could bid on Swans academy small Errol Gulden here. The Tigers have also been linked to Laurie, but it would also be no surprise if Richmond looked to trade out their selection here, with clubs including Geelong and West Coast both looking to trade into the first round according to industry sources. Rivals have indicated the Cats could bid on Connor Downie, while Luke Pedlar is another player in whom they've shown interest.
