List Mgmt. 2020 Draft Thread

Youtube version for anyone not wanting to click through to the club's website. Seems we're hoping at least a couple rookies we rate tomorrow despite already having the minimum number required.

Is that Derek’s version of happy? I’d hate to see him do ‘sad’.

If this was the turnover we had to have, then drafting these guys gives me hope. Not athletes from other codes or countries, but young kids who’ve grown up playing the game and know how to play footy. Hooray! Regeneration.:thumbsu:

This is why i found it disappointing in holding certain players on our list for seasons beyond their worth. Not naming names as find it a tad disrespectful, but why leave guys on lists that arent cracking the 22 consistently. When you can re charge in the draft with young kids.

Re: Reid, Dunn: We hold onto these kind of players when we’re in finals contention. I guess the club consider that’s it’s better to bring in an experienced player into a finals game if we’re forced to make a change? Goldsack was handy in 2018.

Re: Varcoe: Was still getting games. IMO important for young players to work hard for their spot.

Re: Broomhead: Didn’t make a great deal of sense to me.

I think we’ve taken a few stabs at kids who played bottom age last year and most likely to be draft bolters this year.

Am I happy? Ask me in 4 years
Possibly, I think if Macrae had a full year of footy to showcase his talents, he'd have been top 10 for sure. Just my opinion though

Was at a mates last night during the draft, and while I kept an eye on what was going on, couldn’t post.

Things I liked:
Getting Macrae and Henry so late in the first round
No bid for McInness before our first picks
Being proactive with pick swaps to move us up the order and secure extra Daicos points.
The irrationally high number of Mc’s we drafted.
We actually drafted a key forward.

Things I didn’t like:
Essendon taking both Reid and Cox (jerks)
Going for the left field KPP over more credentialed and better performed candidates (again) in Callow and Baldwin.

Overall I’m thrilled with the quality we got with our first picks. If we can grab a Callow or Baldwin in the rookie draft I’ll forgive them being overlooked in the ND.

We did not take Callow and Baldwin as they not the type of KPP we like and lack of Versatility.

McMahon is a Project with good Attributes but in Rankings he went about where he was Ranked

Which is ludicrous. Our best forward for the last two years had been Checkers and he’s the same type as Callow. Baldwin is more dynamic but with injury question marks. Both were worth a list spot as a late selection imo, and now they’ll end up somewhere else in the rookie draft.

McMahon is a 196cm KPF with speed off the mark and a big leap with good hands - how much taller do you want?

I'm guessing we'll either rookie list one of the KPF's that don't get picked up in the draft or invite o e down to train with us perhaps with a view to adding them as a rookie later.
its not how much taller... it show MANY MORE talls...

We need a 196cm+ FB, FF & CHF... Big forwards will moster us next year. Only one D Moore

Roughead on last legs, Cox no certainty, Mihocek a third tall... hope Keane & Kelly can really step, otherwise we're fooked

I do not know anything about the player other that what was told last night etc. But I do like the intent, two key forwards, three tall mids (Sidey and Pendles) coming to the end and finally a small, fast forward who is a pressure machine.

Structure wise it addresses a lot of needs but now we just have to be patient.

Going by that and what we done shows we don't really rate KPF very highly

That draft was not about next year. This is about building around Grundy, Moore, Goo, Adams. Maynard etc. These guys should be at their peaks maturity wise as these kids start to hit their straps.

Exciting stuff. Grabbing two highly rated players ahead of Reef (both with brothers in the system playing at a high level) is an outstanding result.

Grab the best available kpps in the rookie draft and we are set.

Need a huge year in the VFL getting this new group ( and last years group) developing quickly while Collingwood is in the window. If we can fast track a couple of them and avoid injuries, who knows how far we can go in 2021. Everything will need to go right but at least our list is weighted with players with upside rather than dead wood.

Beyond 2021, things also look promising. Add Daicos and a big name free agent.... and this years batch will be ready to go as well!

ok... "will monster us for the next 3 - 5 years" Nicky D isnt a KPP, so we'll need to get them from somewhere

Did Jeremy Cameron get pushed around?

Waking up to last nights result was pretty satisfying I have to admit!

The only observations I’d make are that I just don’t know about the Henry pick. I’m not down on him, but it didn’t energise me as much as the next four selections (like others McReery wasn’t on my radar). Typically these super talented mid sized types can be a bit flakey so I suppose I’m hoping for more Greene than WHE. With the additions of Poulter and McInnes we’ve really stockpiled a cluster of 192-193cm utility types across the past few off seasons (Murphy, Wilson and Ruscoe the others). No doubt some won’t make it, but if 2-3 can kick on it does provide a few levers to pull further down the track. I liked Winder late, but that’s splitting hairs.

For the rookie draft I think you can put a pin in Callow for us. Passing on him six times when we for all the world looked like we needed KP options doesn’t exactly scream that he’s on our radar. I think in terms of names Kolar and Maher are the two that stand out, but a pressure forward would be nice.
