Sloane isn't going to be playing too much midfield from next year onward and unlike several of our current midfielders Hately has the versatility to play the midfielder/forward role....One only had to look at Hately's League games for Central Districts later in his draft year where he played the high half forward role impressively.
Spot on ......I still want Sloane at HB, his U18 Championship role

Looking at our squad, and noting we already have four outside prospects we should be developing (Sholl, Hamill, Milera, McPherson (maybe)) + Smith, why bother?

Just putting undue stress on an area we're looking like we're in a good spot in the future with (admittedly, at this very early juncture).

Milera's future is not back .....Sloane is too slow to apply fwd half pressure

He's already played minutes in DEF this year ......he plays there or not at all

At the moment it is in the backline. After all, Milera has lost a season and had his last campaign also injury riddled. 2021 is a let him reset and rebuild in the backlines year for the most part.

He might get some rotational minutes (I'm not going to begrude our coach rolling any of those five in the middle), but the only viable answer of "plays back or not at all" is not at all for Sloane. He needs to be in the midfield for a good portion of the game to be viable. After all, we don't need leadership in our back-line with both Talia and Doedee and at this point, Sloane is mainly offering leadership. We'll need it in the midfield next year.

Exactly what point of difference to our current midfielders does Jack Graham offer as opposed to Jackson Hately....i.e. midfield balance.
i’m only talking about a mid to late second round for him but he adds some defensive structure and comes from a successful environment and is a good age especially given we will lost brad. he looks super fit and ready to go.

sloane was running around like a maniac on sunday - his influence was a lot more than leadership. next year it will be key to keep lynch sloane and tals in tip top shape by not making them play every match.

Midfields are getting quicker ....you either have quick players in the midfield, or you get beaten .....not offensively, but in transition by opposition clubs

It's been our problem, witches hats, as opposition slices thru our midfield in transition ......Crouch and Sloane culprits
They're great when games are closed down, but in 2nd halves as the games open up, they're liabilities .....can carry one, but not both

It's another 6 months on reaction times, and another pre-season to survive. For someone who is going to be 31, we have to expect Sloane will regress. We're hoping he remains someone who can still contribute though physical players can certainly fall off a cliff quickly. The body can only take so much punishment and still remain able to physically handle the level of play.

Well, one of Lynch and Walker with the forward line. We're in a rebuild and we'll certainly need one older player keeping the younger ones in line.

It's a concern, but pretty minor in the long run. We should be planing on us being a bottom four side in 2021 with another pretty painful year ahead of us. Optimisation isn't really the name of the game right now, it's getting through without too many kids falling apart.

We've been able to hit some good levels of pressure with both Sloane and Matt Crouch. Keep that pressure up and we'll certainly punch above our weight, even if we're not the quickest side out there.

Whilst he's not the silky player Boak is, it does show you can have a big impact into your 30s.

I reckon he can keep this level of form for the next 12-18 months.
