If you take the club on it's word then Max Heath fits the bill.
If you wrote a bio for Roma it would read basically the same as this guy, and to be mooted for the first half of the second round is up there for a ruckman.

Being at 94kg already is a huge benefit and fast tracks him into the seniors.

You only have to look at Draper to see how well a youngster can go if he's super competitive, and we had a real hard crack at him last year, so it's obviously very much on the clubs radar.

With our young team and plethora of depth, anyone we take is gonna be back of the queue for a few years, so it makes sense to invest now.
Reading his draft profile, also sounds like he is someone who can spend some time forward too which suits us perfectly too.

It would be great if we could somehow get our hands on Gold Coast's 2nd pick which they aren't going to use because I reckon thats spot on for what Heath's placement is, but other clubs probably have more they can offer to get it.

A young ruckman drafted as a rookie & then delisted surely doesn’t mean you don’t consider taking another young ruckman 12 months later who is more highly rated?

I sure wouldn't be using our first pick if we were after a ruck so that means we would be using a pick in the 60's to try and get a highly rated ruck ,

Ps , a pick in the 60's is not too far off a rookie pick anyway , so you haven't gained much

Rucks are tricky.
Ben McEvoy, Max Gawn, Brody Grundy, were high draft picks, so where lots who were ordinary. ( Shaun Hampson, Cameron Wood ).
Dean Cox, Aaron Sandilands , Rowan Marshall were rookie picks.

I expect we'll trade for better pick around the start of the 3rd round, but He's likely to be gone at that stage.

If you read enough phantom drafts, we'll need to use our 1st pick to get Max. He's come from not in contention at the start of the year, to being top 30 on just about everyone's ratings.

How that happens with no games played I dunno, but those guys that spend their lives watching footage must have seen something..

In all reality, calling our 1st pick a 1st round pick is like putting lipstick on a pig.
It's a mid second round by all previous measurements, and that's ok for a quality young ruck.

Except didnt the club say they wanted a forward ?

And whats wrong with a pig wearing lipstick

I feel there are plenty of young mids around our pick that would probably be a safe choice to get a reasonably good player.
Callow probably unlikely to slide that far and anyone else probably highly prospective.
Even if he turns out to be a man among boys at Junior level, he might be good enough to be a decoy for King.

He's listed most places as a ruck/forward.

I dunno TBH, but they obviously want a replacement for Paddy, and went for Draper last year too.

For over all benefit it would be better to have two Marshalls than another forward that will be behind King and Battle.

The way I see our list a young Mumford clone would be very very handy. Roma will need support and I don't want to see Winx anywhere near a centre bounce in his career.

Although I won't be complaining if we one of the key forwards/defenders or mids falls to us.

IMHO Marshall should be seen as the CHF - has a sublime skill set to rest forward and ruck with a good 50-50 split, but that may prove difficult for our R1 as they will need to be flexible enough to play elsewhere but also be a strong tap ruckman as a POD to Marshall himself

Billy Longer was Pick 8 from memory

Not to bring race or genetics into it or anything, but we really need a Natanui, Ratagoulea, Ryder athletic profile for our future ruck to partner Marshall.

Someone with an outstanding leap and footy nous.

Ratagoulea and nous in the same sentence, did you not see the dope punch the ball away when it was going through the cats goals , brain fade plus

I cannot believe that the Crows won’t select Ugle Hogan at #1. Forces the Doggies to match. That takes the pressure off the Crows actual first selection by not being the #1 draftee and reduces the initial 2 years salary for the Crows. Simple.

Still think this is the guy we should target, going on Davo-27’s Draft Watcher thread last night, his agility testing of 8.45 is a lot better than past champions including Nick Riewoldts & Buddy Franklins.
This is from Kevin Sheehans write up ....

Seeing that a few supporters would have liked to take Mihocek off Collingwoods hands, then maybe this is the one.

Don’t love his kicking action, and he wins marking contests mainly through size and strength... two things in which he won’t be above average at league level, at least not early.

The number 1 always gets lots of media coverage, so it's likely they let him slip for that sake alone.

With Pick 64/Pick 74 (now about Pick ????) St Kilda selects

Heath and Holmes would do me just fine.

Otherwise I’m a fan of Macrae or Perkins if they slide, and Maher, Poulter, Dumesny, Ford or Cook.

The number 1 pick gets money from NAB so bidding on Ugle Hagen would take that away from the player they want to take.
