Things are slowly falling into place... can see this happening....

1. ADE - Thilthorpe
2. NM - McDonald
3. WB - Ugle-Hagan
4. SYD - Grainger-Barras
5. HAW - Hollands
6. SYD Campbell
7. GCS - Phillips
8. ESS - Bruhn
9. ESS - Perkins
10. ESS - Reid
11. PA - Jones
12. ADE - Macrae
13. GWS - Henry
14. NM - Cox

Gets to be a bit of a lottery after that

Don’t love his kicking action, and he wins marking contests mainly through size and strength... two things in which he won’t be above average at league level, at least not early.

He does have a bit of strange gait with his run up but it appears to work. Good solid size, just think he would be a good foil for Ming going forward, only an 18yo & if we take him, would hope he would continue to grow. With Gallagher saying we are aiming for forward in the draft, thought this lad might measure up well.

Winx, Battle, Marshall go ok for blokes we drafted.

Paddy & Hugh? Both shocking luck with injuries... who else has been a write off?

Pierce - we had him for 6 years for 5 games

AFAIK, this is every tall we've drafted or traded for since 2004 who didn't have extended exposed AFL form:

2018: Max King (Pick 4), Callum Wilkie (Rookie Pick 3), Sam Alabakis (Cat B Rookie),Jonathon Marsh (Supplementary)
2019: Jack Mayo (Mid Season Draft), Jack Bell (Rookie Pick 5)

2004 is an arbitrary point in time, but it stops just before Sam Fisher, so I'm happy enough. Yes, I've probably stretched the definition a couple of times and ignored/forgotten a player or too, but IDGAF.

Count the hits and misses for yourselves, but, for us, talls are simply a raffle, physically as much as anything else. Volume is the name of the game.

As the Phantom Drafts start being posted Berry, Maher and Trew seem to be the ones being suggested (Berry still being my pick) but I was listening to the mock draft on AFL.com.au and shifter picked Jack Bowey. I know very little about him other then his dad played 85 games for us so another F/S that got away, He is a little bugger but he tested really well so my thought was "Is he able to play midfield or is another small fwd type"?.

Pretty sure Spencer was around pick 20 but changes nothing. So many tall duds. Will Johnson was probably our best tall who never made it. Ferguson had a shocker single match.

He was taken at 25, not 35 yes, I mistyped.

My personal pick to make it from that lot was Jarryd Allen, he looked real good before hip injury and the degenerative cartilage. Deserved a bit more than being left out in the dark after his retirement based on what was said in the following couple of years.

Blake McGrath is my favourite "I remember for the wrong reasons" player, being the only player Andrew Lovett managed to beat on his first (and only) time trial before the rest of the shit happened, and he was basically Alabakis 1.0: only on the list because he was 7 foot tall.

You serious?

We shouldn’t draft a tall because we took a project ruckman at pick 75 in 2012?

How does your argument work for trading in talls? What picks did we give up for Hickey, Longer and Lee?

Sorry mate but that’s a shocking take.

If Libba & co rate a tall as our best option for our 1st pick then its done. Absolute zero relevance to past selections by past recruiters.

Jackson Callow might be worth a chance. Tassy has produced some beaut key forwards over the years, For us, The Doc, Barry Lawrence, Nick Reiwaldt, for others Peter Hudson, Royce Hart.
I very much doubt his name will be mentioned beside them in the future

Essentially, the majority of talls we have drafted at the top end of the draft have been good selections while the majority of late speculative picks haven't come on. Pretty much the way the draft is expected to work.

Stanley was drafted a 47, not 27.

He looks unco but what ever he does seems to be working, he times his marks well, not just out muscles. I can't tell if he's John Butcher or what we hoped Paddy would turn into though.

Heath and Holmes would do me just fine.

Otherwise I’m a fan of Macrae or Perkins if they slide, and Maher, Poulter, Dumesny, Ford or Cook.

Yeah, that looks like a pretty good list.

Bowey sounds like more of a good news story rather than someone who we should actually pick up.

Whats the appeal of Berry for you? To me, he is another pure inside mid with questionable foot skills - which we don't really need. Seems a bit like a younger version of what Dunstan is right now.

I'm with you on Berry, but Bowey seems to be highly rated on talent, ability and ceiling.

IMO he's suffered due to his size, but he's grown a bit this year and hasn't had games to improve his rating.
Definitely not with our 1st pick mind you, but anything after would be fine.

Wouldn't surprise me if we get 3 Sandy Dragons.

He looks pretty good, he's quick and mobile with neat skills. We have him training with us along with Perkins so you can almost guarantee he's not coming to us. we seem to never draft guys who train with us. I always rate Allstars form and he was good. https://afl.draftcentral.com.au/tag/2019-under-17-futures-all-stars/

#1 Jake Bowey (Sandringham Dragons)

One of Team Brown’s best players on the day with his run and neat kicking skills throughout. His day started with some great running power and vision to get the ball into the hands of Eddie Ford for an early goal, and then produced a lovely kick at full speed through the middle to Blake Coleman. He used the ball well time and time again, winning a fair bit of it on the wing and half-back, but also setting up plays going forward, including a late game interception at half-forward and tight kick into Ford in the pocket. His hands in close and ability to find space, as well as his footy IQ is great. Even took a very nice high mark early in the fourth term and played on straight away to keep the ball moving.

I think it's that we have quite a few small mid/fwd types that I am not that excited or interested in drafting him.

I'd be surprised if he's still there by our 2nd pick, and if he was he'd be a great pick up. But just not that appealing with our first pick.

Clark and Battle both trained with us before being drafted.

Yeah , we already have Ryan and Leo plus Sinc's , Gresh , Butler , Higgins ect , i don't think we need anymore

Reading through a lot of the phantom drafts, it seems like most people have us taking a small mid/fwd or a pure inside mid - which are the two positions we really don't need. Not sure if thats just the types of players who will be there at our pick or if they have an out-dated view on what our ist needs, but I would be really underwhelmed if we took another one of those types with our first pick.

Hoping a player like Ford, Carroll, Poutler or Downie (Hawthorn deciding not to bid) fall to us. It's extremely unlikely - Melbourne will probably take whichever slides just before our pick - but one of those taller, outside, multi-position players would be perfect for us. Or a key position player.
