I think that is the most underwhelming highlight package I have seen, seems like a safe pick.
Berry doesn't seem to be on anyone's radar other then mine so I spent most of the day I would would say productively others may not going through some of the phantoms and seeing who they consider our most likely pick. Bowey wasn't someone I initially looked at thinking he was pigeon holed as a small fwd but looking more into him i can see him fitting well into our team. His footy smarts are very reminiscent of Caleb Daniel something which seems to be quite underrated compared to pure athletic ability. I think Caleb is the most important player for the Doggies in the way he controls the movement of the ball and starting the push forward so if Bowey can be as half as good as Caleb we will have a winner.
Plus as a ginger myself I am always fascinated to watch one of our own play an outdoor sport without instantly getting melanomas.
I'm not sure how set in stone Reef McInnes going to Collingwood is depending on when a bid is made but for such a raw prospect he looks to have huge upside as a swingman. His speed for his size is amazing not sure about his tank though but that can easily be worked on though.
One kid I haven't seen many mentioned is Isiah Winder who many have like with Bowey put in the small forward category because of his height. His footy smarts are similar to Bowey but is stronger in the contest and can lay a strong tackle.
Whoever we pick I think my reaction will be "Fair enough" and not worry much more about it because I don't see whoever we get playing much of a role in our side next year so a project player like Max Heath would also be acceptable to me.

Those highlights are from last year fyi, this is from this year

Your opinion watched him in the championships thought ceiling was huge was played mid / forward.
Just me thought he was crucified by Richardson .. I’m not the only one ... Dermie stood near me
at Sandringham said something similar ...he’s gone to back home probably to worst club as the
bloke he is competing for that role is a Brownlow medallist and Longmuir sticks him on a wing .

Richardson coached the flair out of his game , was killing Coffield the same way.
Also think Acres was pretty reliable kick for goal too...destined for career played in multiple spots.

Would‘nt be the 1st bloke to have his career in football destroyed by ineptitude.
Acres is a bit like Joe Burns - gets given many many chances - but in the end fails to convince anyone that he is actually up to it.

I thought we had a rule about no Clayton Oliver gifs around here

Melbourne tried that and failed their rebuild, who is to say it would've worked for us.

Given who we had in key positions at the time I think our selections were fine. We should've gone mid after that though, and we kind of did. Our issue has been the inability to develop players but it seems the last few years we are getting that right as well.

Just to repeat the same thing I've been saying for 10 years: you can win a flag with medium quality KPPs; you can't win a flag with medium quality mids.

A guy plays 3 games in 2 years and just because he is tall he is a first rounder???
Another example of AFL clubs caring more about athleticism than football skills.

A 189cm midfielder with elite endurance and speed. but little proof he can actually play.

Yeah, he looks a bull. I wouldn't be upset to get him.

I think he got 17 disposals in that exhibition game recently as well.

One 15 disposal NAB League game last year and that 17 disposal preseason trial game in the preseason is the only decent level football he has played. But his testing is elite.

Draft Central had him ranked as a late pick/rookie candidate last week so to jump to a potential first rounder would be incredible - or slightly insane for whichever clubs bites the bullet.

WTF, he was meant to be a late pick, now he's first round?
All it takes is one club to panic and it happens. See also: Brad Howard, Seb Tape, Blaine Boekhorst, Lochie O'Brien, Lachie Plowman, Christian Howard, Jarrad Grant

Some do work out. See also: Patrick Cripps, Marcus Bontempelli, Tim Taranto, Tom Doedee, Harry Taylor

I'd have thought that rotation restrictions would put a premium on quality rather than athleticism.
Turnovers is what kills teams these days.

What a difference a year makes.

Going to be tough for teams to nail this draft given the limited vision and how much players improve over a year especially at that age.

I must be missing something; There is nothing there that jumps out at me as someone to get excited about. Decent player by the looks of it but a conservative pick (happy to be wrong) the only real highlight I saw was from the guy in the helmet at about 35 seconds. I keep getting told to keep an eye on Kaine Baldwin that he is a true talent just with bad luck, looking into him I can see the appeal strong hands uses his body well in the marking contest and isn't afraid to throw his weight around but two ACL's is hard to ignore.
Max Holmes is an interesting one taking a chance on athletic prowess over form, speed is seductive but how effectively can he use it at the top level? If we were to take a chance on an athlete switching to AFL I would prefer Harry Sharp, a tank like his could be perfect as a tagger frustrating his opponent into mistakes.

According to Josh Bourke who was the Sandy Dragons coach, Max Holmes is not an athlete trying to convert to football.

Bourke coached him in the Victorian schoolboys side six years ago. Said make no mistake he is a footballer.

Having said that I would not take him with our first pick as believe there should be better players available but if we can somehow trade in a little higher to improve our next pick would have a crack.

Seems like someone who has a low bust factor but doesn't quite have the same x-factor/ceiling as some others around that mark.

Its true I'm an ITK and we are right into him , i just hope that Richmond and Melbourne don't somehow find out from reading big footy that we will take him. They are far too stupid to snatch him up just before our pick, leaving only obvious spuds like Pouter for us.

Mid season rookie draft will be interesting.
