What would you do with a top 10 pick this year???

Answer below...
Well it really depends where we finish but I will use where I think and that 10th to 12 th so I say try to trade for an inside mid but I doubt pick 8 gets it done so just use it on kids especially if Clark comes on as a mid That’s a big if with only 16 games in a strange year. He just may not get fit enough to do that this year.

I would use it on a midfielder. Every other answer is wrong.

Caldwell GWS. Seems to have stopped injuring himself and behind some extraordinary talent with more coming in each year. Green that they picked up last year should be a gun, Taranto, Lachie Ash, Coniglio, Hately, Hopper, Kelly, Perryman and Ward are all capable of playing mid. If I was him I'd be looking around.

Port and Crows posters are all convinced Hatley will leave because he's now behind Green and a similar type.
I can see one of Caldwell and Hatley leaving but two would be unlikely.
I suspect both boys are getting some good offers from their respective states. It'll be interesting to watch that space.

I could see both wanting out. Even GWS don't mind selling players off for high picks. It kept them perpetually spreading the list age with high quality. Hopper and Taranto (injured) are both top shelf and they would be very unlikely to want to let either go. Ash and Green are untried and would be unlikely to go anywhere yet, Ward, Kelly and Coniglio are all established stars so won't be available unless something weird happens. That leaves guys like Perryman, Caldwell and Hately who could potentially see greener fields, especially with this season limiting their games. I'd try to get Caldwell and Hill out of them.

l hadn't considerd Hill, but snaffling the two of them would be an unbelievable result.

What is the chance of getting Zac Williams from GWS? He did some excellent things in the midfield last year

I have always ben a huge fan but when he went into the midfield in the finals he made the Giants a lot more unpredictable. He moves the ball through traffic so fast it's hard to set up before the ball moves forward.

There's a soft consensus on the trade board that he stands to be the one squeezed out by SC.

He's a NSW boy so anywhere but the Swans holds the same drawbacks for relocation, and he'll want to be playing finals so rebuilding/declining teams are a no no.

Looking at who "should have" the money to spare and isn't on the decline, I figure the Doggies and the Scum won't be after mids, so there's Brizzy and Hawks, then Melbs, Saints & Norff.
We're a reasonable chance....

Just my opinion, but we need to f#@! Sexton off and get Lenny back NOW.
Get Williams, Caldwell, (Hill?)
Say goodbye to Gears, Ross, and hello to finals.

Unless Lenny loses his job he won’t be back and he isn’t the replacement for sexton anyway. I still think Lenny wants to coach. Doubt either change helps us get better players. Winning dies that. And Ross will be at our club next year and most likely captain

I don't think Sexton, nor his position would be essential.
Just use the money he gets to hire someone with a future as none of our assistants seem like head coach material.

I understand Ross will probably be at the club next year, but l live in hope.

I’m not sure any player at the club has finished ahead of him in the last 4 years best and fairest

I'm prepared to get passed that.
I think that in order to get a premium player we need both the SC space and a open spot in the midfield.
Since we don't really have that upper echelon at the moment, it leads to over rating what we do have.

If we still had our first pick, someone like Trew sounds pretty good to me
We actually selected him in the phantom draft on the main board. It means nothing really, but it does show he's probably going to be there around our pick.

For a roughie, Tom Green's "little" brother is in the pool this year at a late pick. He sounds like a monster of a kid..

That maybe true and there is the problem ,the quality of our list .

Now that I agree with but does that mean you get rid of your most consistent player
Im not saying get rid of him , im just saying yes he is our best player over the last few years based on B & F results yet a lot of us dont rate him ,

I don’t rate him as our best player. That’s why I used b and f results but I rate him above most others at the club and whether people like or not he is obviously a leader or he wouldn’t be sole vice captain. If you get a deal that’s clearly in your favour he goes but so does just about every player especially as you are also losing maybe the next captain with bugger all alternatives

Obviously you do but just to say I will feel good if he is gone but mean improvement
Were Seb our 3rd/4th best mid and not our future capitan then he'd be seen as very tradable.
I just can't cop the logic that says our lack of elite players is reason to covet a guy who is good but not great.
He's a solid citizen and he gets a lot of ball, but he plays bruise free, butchers it to often, and is the first with bad body language when the game is going poorly.

When Gears got the job it was widely viewed that he was keeping the seat warm for the next guy. Seb being that next guy is a sideways move at best.
We need to move past that safe pair of hands mentality. It fosters mediocrity.

Obviously that’s not the opinion of the club or coaches. We have already lost our best mid this year so losing your best at the end of this year makes us even worse in that position. I’m not sure it’s safe hands. Who is even ready to be captain? And going with a name out of the blue doesnt mean the side will be better. King obviously isn’t going to be captain but if he was that doesn’t mean the side will be better just as the safe option doesn’t make the side worse or the same. Better players make the side better. A worse list makes the side worse. And not that I’ve ever noticed but if his body language was so bad one why is he rated so highly as a leader by players and coaches and two why has he done so well in the b and f when we have been a very ordinary side. I don’t get it.

If all that is true, and with Seb coming of last season where he was basically captain, and with Gears in his twilight off little preseason, why didn't the players, nor the club, see fit to elevate Seb to the main man?
I don't think he's rated as high internally as you make out.
You say his presence as VC is proof of all things, but at 27yo and in his prime, with last year to stake his claim, they again stuck with Gears...
I think that says he's not rated.
If he was rated he'd be our captain right now, else what are they waiting for??
