We would be lucky to get a 3rd round for him.
Is it his 5 or 6 year and his kicking is not VFL standard let alone AFL
And we should re name Gresh Black Hawk as well

Thats pretty close to my best 22 with JB playing forward. But I'd also omit Ryder since Battle is playing and I prefer Marshall rucking most of the game, and then play either of Webster/Paton/Coffield.

The most important thing for Butler was 6 of his 8 tackles inside 50. We need small forwards who bring the pressure consistently since thats something we've lacked.
Webster and Parker are just two who could easily force their way into that team, I wouldn’t play Ryder every week but I expect we will. Of course I always hope a guy like bytel will force his way in but who knows, this year is just a lost year all round.

Like everything else who knows what’s going to happen, list size, when we’ll play again etc.

So we had a full contingent?
Close enough
If you were happy with the 2nd half performance thats fine, I wasn't it was the same heartless stuff that has been dished up for years

Just my observation but our practice matches seemed to lack any intensity and had the absolute minimum amount of physical contact.

This is a massive mistake imo, you can train till you’re blue in the face but it’s the physical contact that takes it out of you. Secondly we picked a team based on guys who starred in the low key intensity of practice matches who as per usual let us down in the heat of battle.

At what point will the penny drop that guys who can’t produce on match day need to prove they can at sandy not on the training track.

I'm a bit bored so I will try to rate our list.

Elite players. Closest is Marshall (expect him to improve) getting close in the second half of last year.

A grade. Membrey, Billings, Hill, Hannerbury?, Roberton?, Ross, Marshall.

B grade; Savage, Webster, Ryder, Howard, Jones, Gresham, Steele, Carisle, Geary, Clark, Lonie, Wilkie.

Potential Elite. King, Clark, Gresham, Billings, Long, Bytel, Battle, Marshall, Howard.

Potential but not likely elite. Paton, Wilkie, Parker, Lonie, Hind, Marsh, Coffield, Mayo.

Known quantities unlikely to progress. Savage, Geary, Butler, Dunstan, Carisle, Ross, Ryder, Roberton, Brown, Austin, Kent, Phillips, Sinclair, Mc Kenzie, Joyce, Alabakis.

Compared to the Dogs who have Bont, Mc Crae, Dunley, Johanisen as elite And Bailey Smith, English and Naughton looking likely to be elite and high potential guys like Lipinski and Bailey Dale not far behind them. Hunter and Easton Wood types are a pretty solid set of talent too.

Good post gringo2011 of the Potential elite there is a lot of intrigue and a lot riding on their improvement (could Coff be in there - I'm not sure):

Potential Elite. King, Clark, Gresham, Billings, Long, Bytel, Battle, Marshall, Howard.

The Dogs do currently have that high end talent - we are reliant on ours developing to be so.

Maybe the first one against Hawthorn was very open football but the second against Collingwood was one of the more contested, tackle heavy games on the second week.

The in rd1, we were the highest tackling team of the week, including laying 25 tackles inside 50 with the next best being 15. Also top 5 for contested possessions.

So the issue wasnt that our players dont want physical contact because the numbers tell us otherwise.

Yep - couldn't kick goals ....sounds simple but it plagues us.

It wasn’t really my point although tackles are often just chasing arse anyway, more players on the bench, shorter quarters etc.

I thought most teams just dialed it in this preseason and that’s a lousy basis for match fitness. Imo it may have contributed to our second half fade out. Anyway it’s just a continuing trend of the players being put in cotton wool, they can’t even practice goal kicking after training without someone having a fit about workload.

It’s not just AFL either I put up a video discussion on the state of Australian soccer and their talking about why we can’t produce a striker citing the same rubbish of stopping players taking extra shots or just kicking the ball around.

If we actually have a restart to the season it will be interesting to see who’s stayed in shape and who’s dropped off.

It will sort out who is a pro and who is just along for the ride , if the players get say 3 weeks notice to play it could be an interesting season

What do you class as Elite mate , there has to be a set measure or with people having such different opinions on things we would never have anything defined , You only need to go back to the poll of who could be elite and just about every player on the list got a vote which we all know is just crazy .
Would making the AA squad be the measure for elite ?

Savage, Webster,Geary, I would have C grade imo none would get a game in a top 4 side

I'm not that good at making rules. I'm more throw half baked ideas out there and hope no-one realises. To me the elite are top 20 mids, top 5 KPB and KPFs and probably top 5 or so utilities/wings/ small defender or forwards/ Flankers etc. Top 5 in the comp for rucks. AA isn't great if you are a mid, there are more elite mids than spots.

Mate presume nothing
Can you quote where I’ve said I’m happy with it.
If your going to attempt to admonish me then get your facts right.

Nope had my facts right
North were three men down
Stkilda were pathetic in the 2nd half

It will be interesting to see who, if any, comeback underdone. Not just our club but across the board. Could be some one sided games at least at the start.

Gosaints12 is running a phantom draft on the main board. Well done to him and good effort l say!!
It's interesting to see what this compromised draft might look like...
