So we are potentially looking for a mature age option who can still develop their game and fill a spot in the coming years?

A lot of AFL level defenders started out by being drafted as forwards. I think this kid could follow that path and replace Snake in a couple of years.

Too confusing though

A couple of highlights show that he can take a strong over the pack mark.
Can just picture it in a couple of seasons if we took him, Captain Jack Steele, Vice Captain Jake Steele. 😱

There looks to be 10-12 picks in the second and 3rd rounds gonna get sucked up by NGAs.
However there's also a similar number of bids expected, so the net effect will be about neutral on our picks 64 & 67.

With pundits suggesting only about 50 kids to be taken, and us being unable to shift out surplus players, it's very possible we only take the one pick in the national draft, then two rookies, one of whom might be Frawley.

Our FRDP will push out to at least 25, the highest pick we'll have for 3 drafts outside of a single pick 4 for King in 2018. FMD

In that time we've still landed Bytel, Wilkie, Marsh, Byrnes and Connolly which is a reasonable haul.

In Libba we trust.

So what you mean is that its actually the highest pick for 2 drafts. :/

No l think you've missed it.
In 3 consecutive years of drafting we've only given Libba one pick 4 (2018), one pick 25 (2020), and one pick 41 (2018).

I find that pretty amazing.
I'm not aware of any other club that's boned their recruiters like that. Perhaps the Hawks.

Pretty easy to these days with future pick trading. Land a big fish, don't lose a big fish, make a few other trades and your draft position tanks for a couple of years. The AFL limiting future trading to one season is the only reason why it doesn't happen more often.

Clubs and first picks at the draft
West Coast - Pick 62 (2020), pick 49 (2019), pick 28 (2018). Mostly driven by the Tim Kelly trade.
Essendon - Pick 30 (2019), pick 38 (2018), pick 49 (2017). Shiel, Smith, Saad and Stringer
Hawthorn - Pick 52 (2018), pick 45 (2017), pick 74 (2016). O'Meara and Wingard.

We landed Hill, Higgins, Ryder, Howard, Jones and Butler. We lost Steven, Acres and Bruce. We gained a lot more than we lost, so the difference was made up with draft picks.

Interesting name in there Gault. Probably no relation but there can’t be too many Gaults.
I knew a Gault, poor dude cut his hand offf in a shredder.

2018 Hawks pick 52
2019 Hawks pick 13.

I was just reading Twomey's latest phantom form guide, Didn't know about Joel Jeffrey would of been perfect for our team such a shame so many of our past players never reached 100 games. Also hurts because GC get him because of the bullcrap academy they gave them.

We are a few games off getting him haha

Couplemore seasons into Dean Anderson (Noah's old man) would have been nice too.

Wait until Matt Maguire rolls out a stable of studs that we miss by a single game because Lyon refused to play him in a dead rubber back in 2009...

We'll use the last for Wilkie's upgrade: surely have plenty of options to sell the others off in a package to slide up the draft, either with the first round pick or alone for an extra 3rd
iT is a long time since we had to use a draft pick for a rookie upgrade.

Hey lads come in peace?
What the hell happened with Parker? Watched his first few games and I thought he was a bloody steal and a half, saw he was delisted. What went wrong?

He played 2 games this year and struggled so didn't get another chance.

He was already behind Butler, Lonie and Kent.

We've now brought Crouch in which will likely mean we can push Gresham forward more and we've also brought in Jack Higgins which pushes Parker further back.

It expect Lonie and Kent will now become depth players with Gresham, Butler, Higgins and Billings rotating though the small forward roles.

He certainly has his fans.

His issue is that he just didn't find enough of the pill. It means that he needed to play perfect football with every possession which was just never going to happen.

With us strengthening our midfield we are going to see the likes of Gresham, Billings and Higgins in the forwardline now. This means that Butler is probably the only real small forward who stays in the starting line up while Kent and Lonie turn into depth.

It meant that, had he stayed, he was going to be our 5-6th small/mid forward option which is just not a spot a team can really carry, even more with reduced spots.

I hope a team picks him up. Someone like Essendon or North would love him just smashing into campaigners, kicking his 25-30 goals a year and protecting the 'star' players inside 50.

not much ... he had issues in his game that he needed to work on but as fate would have it COVID knocking out the VFL meant he really didnt get a chance to work on those isues in his game ... then with Buttler coming in and setting a very high bar Matty was up against it to fight his way back in ... with the list reductions and us landing higgins we sadly couldnt carry him for another season to see if he could make that next step ... just a tad unlucky for him as most other years worse players than Matty get kept but it is what it is .. his task now is to join a VFL, WAFL, SANFL team and dominate at that level and hopefully get picked up for a second shot by another club

Thoughts on Eddie Ford and Mcrae and Powell who all might be available at our picks?

Hard to see macrae falling to our pick, but you never know.
There's always a couple of kids get plucked a bit earlier than the experts predict, so that hopefully pushes a the rest a few places down.
But this isn't a normal year and it's just so impossible to get a feel for it.

When our probable pick was around 15 all the draft nuffies had a taking a different best available midfielder, but now at 25/26 they're giving us a mix of everything else. I honestly don't think anyone has much of a clue this year.

Can but wait and speculate..

I seem to remember he had ankle surgery post 2019 which impacted on his pre-season, he fell behind in his fitness and made it hard to break into the team.
