Jeez, what a slow day at work.

Out of shear boredom I thought I'd have a look at how the NGA/FS bids will effect our late picks #64 & #67 since the effect on 21 has been largely quantified already.

Take this with a grain of salt because I only used one of the phantom drafts, and there is a fair variation in them all.
I also think people generally tend to overestimate the aggressiveness of bids, but since the Dildo has a lot of influence this draft there is a strong f***wit potential all the way through.

Based on current pick standings:

.Picks #65 & #66 are held by the Filth and the Crows.

.The Filth are likely to lose #65 for points, but that depends when a bid comes on their NGA boy McInness.
Regardless, they will have 3 selections prior to our pick, so I can't actually see them using this one.

.The Crows have an awesome draft hand. They will almost certainly not be using pick #66

.This gives us picks #64 & #65

.Bids will add about an extra 11 picks, but will consume about 19 prior picks, bringing us up the order by 8 places

.There will likely be at least 2-3 passes in the 3rd round (but these may get sold off and used)

.All this brings us up to picks #53 & #54, @ 453 points total, the equivalent of #39

.#53 & #54 will hit peak value at about the end of the 1st round (our 1st pick :D )

This gives us substantially more trading ability than I'd thought.
For the several clubs with 2nd round FS/NGA's that find themselves needing more points, we'll be available to help.
However, using the same metric Brisbane will hold #52, #55, #56, so interested parties will be able to force a race to the gutter.

Historically these picks are more miss than hit, so we likely stand to draft 2 duds.

If I'm Gags, I'm trying to get hold a single pick as high as possible, late 2nd or early 3rd might be possible.

Our last pick currently #74 should land around #60 if not even less, and we can dumpster dive with this one if we must.

For reference, last year we got Ryan Byrnes at #52, and Leo Connolly at #64 last year...

If we can't trade back into a better pick, i'd rather pass leave the list positions open.
The draft will be full of talented 18year olds who will go on to play VFL footy.
At the mid-season rookie draft i believe we are able to top up the list .
We would possibly be able to target better players then, than we will now.

I agree that's a good strategy, but don't we need someone on the Long Term Injury List in order to enter the mid season draft?

Its hard to tell, because the AFL as usual is clear as mud.

This suggests you can.

WHAT IS THE MID-SEASON ROOKIE DRAFT?

For the first time since 1993, the AFL will hold a mid-season draft.

The draft has been introduced to help clubs fill spots on their list that have opened up due to retirements or long term injuries.

Should AFL clubs have a list spot available or one is created through a player being placed on the inactive list, they will be able to add a player to their rookie list and select players based on reverse ladder order.

But this doesn't clarify what will happen 2021.

I know, I'm replying to my own post here, but I'm feeling pretty smug about this one now.

Seems you need space on your list...whether it is pre-existing space or space created by placing someone on the long-term injury list / retiring someone.

That's the way i see it.
So if we leave some space rather than shooting blind with our late picks. We get a shot amongst the best kids to miss selection in the draft.
Should be an interesting season for VFL watchers.

These guys are in the process of legitimising their kinks under the bulging LGBTQAI+ umbrella - agrouping now so inadequate that many of its original members now reject it - and you can see all manner of social media content from "furries" and the baby version among others and woe betide you if you ever disrespect their nonsense online. It's funny/frightening.

I know - wrong thread, it's a loaded political discussion now perfectly suited for the Random Discussion thread.
I think you've hit the nail on the head as to why some people feel disenfranchised with politics tho. Constantly being shouted down or told you're a shit person no matter what you believe will do that.

Anyway, for those curious, the Big Footy phantom draft is happening right now. Barrels and many others will love hearing the news that popular draft pundit Knightmare is representing our proud club.

He selected Sam Berry at pick 24. Inside mid which he reckons could be the point of dfference in our "slow and vanilla midfield" lol He said he did consider picking Tom Powell instead.

Preety sure pick value remains the same as if no picks are consumed.

Just out of curiosity, would in the future teams be able to take players on loan with a draft pick coming to the loanee as well?
Will use us as an example because a higher draft pick would be good this draft.
Imagine if we came to an agreement with Adelaide who probably won’t use all their draft picks, they want Josh Worrell to get AFL experience but are struggling to fit him in because of senior players, we need **defenders, so we promise to play him for a season & we get their pick 40 as well as Worrell
Could/would this be feasible in the future?

**hypothetical example

See Melbourne Storm loaned out Harry Grant for last season but that was just a swap of players.

Like they do in soccer , a player on the fringe might be loaned to a lower club just to get games into him and see if he’s worth keeping. So he would still be playing top division as opposed to seconds .

An article on Zach Reid, he'll go before our pick but interesting that his highly rated brother didn't get picked in 2018 and signed to play at Port Melbourne, also a KPB. Might be worth a rookie spot as a cheap project KP.

Footage of Kyle Reid, looks super neat skilled but slightly under sized at 193cm.

I think they are from Leongatha or somewhere so Roughy might take him in. Ginger from the Gippsland coast and all.

Flicking through all the phantom drafts there seems some real mixed messages on the value of players around our pick.
Some have us going for Jake Bowey or Luke or Edwards but others have both these guys in the 40's.
Have not paid any attention this year to values but seems a little odd for things to be so far apart. What are these players perceived value?
Edwards cant be that high as Adelaide don't want him as a F/son inside 40.

Also someone had us linked to Egg-Smith from Richmond but not as a DFA. Anyone heard anything?

I reckon Bowery is one who is in a bit of a tough spot because he’s a gun half back he probably would’ve had a lot more time on the ball this year. I have him as a much more advanced JohnKnoble from Collingwood. Much more dominant however. Great skills either side. He’s Definetly the type we usually go after. Could see him going betwee 15-25

Kyle played for Geelong's VFL team, but only got two games. Choices are we can get in early and grab a player who has played less VFL than Clavariino, or we wait and see how he goes at Port, with the risk of other clubs getting him first. I think i'd want to see something more before drafting him.

His highlights make him look like a very good player. Clav looks a bit of a way off to me if at all.

His U18 Highlights?
I haven't seen Clav's U18 highlights.
But Kyle went undrafted. Clavarino was always going to get drafted. He actually slid to us.

Is there anyway we can appeal to the AFL to claim Brett Bowey's son as a father and son? Brett played 80 games for Saints so is not that far short. The AFL haave supposed to have been looking at the rules to reduce the number of games required for a while now.

Tell them that they need to do it due to Covid. It makes as much sense as some of the other crap they needed to do because of Covid.
