Reading through a lot of the phantom drafts, it seems like most people have us taking a small mid/fwd or a pure inside mid - which are the two positions we really don't need. Not sure if thats just the types of players who will be there at our pick or if they have an out-dated view on what our ist needs, but I would be really underwhelmed if we took another one of those types with our first pick.

Hoping a player like Ford, Carroll, Poutler or Downie (Hawthorn deciding not to bid) fall to us. It's extremely unlikely - Melbourne will probably take whichever slides just before our pick - but one of those taller, outside, multi-position players would be perfect for us. Or a key position player.
Yeah i love Ford's highlights , yes they are only highlights but he looks like a real talent , have liked him for months since someone posted a link to his work

Just watched his package again , in time he could easily be a genuine Mid - Forward has plenty of aggression and finds space in close

Wow, some consensus!!

Whilst l agree, l just have this niggling feeling that our need for a ruck and the availability of Max Heath might trump the best available logic this year.

Ford or Poulter would make me pretty happy.
We're definitely missing that type at the moment.

Im not saying dont take a ruck , i just think Ford could be special in time
Ps , does anyone know if Jack Bell is playing for Sandy next season ?

While I generally believe in getting rucks and defenders later in the draft, the more I read of Heath the more I like him with our first pick.

Give him a year watching Ryder live, being coached by both Ryder & Lade, testing himself against Marshall...

Seems like a solid plan.

Not necessarily saying we should take Callow but the comparisons on here seem unfair.
The kid can obviously take a contested grab but he is only beating up on smaller players and it wont be the same in the AFL?
People said the same about Clayton Oliver.
Callow is an illusion, the same as Paddy?
People forget quickly Paddy was a great contested grab in juniors as well as seniors except he never had a tank which this kid does.
Junior attributes like this do translate.

Think Battle is a fairer comparison and who wouldn't want another Josh Battle roaming around?

Just my two cents

This. So much this.

Heath sounds a very good prospect, but our first seems feels like too much of a reach for how little he has shown in games. I wish we had a pick in the 30s to take him with.

Wouldnt surprise me to see Poulter be picked - we have a strong presence in SA and sounds like Toce went over to watch the games that were on.

Also, what a do!

Would love Eddie Ford though, that would be my wish.

Eddie makes him look so vanilla

It's worth watching the whole SA all stars game to see the stuff that didn't make the highlights. This kid is something very different..

What amuses me most about this site is the assumption that all posters are male.
When clearly that is not true.
A big shout out to you girls.
You know who you are.
Your input is most welcome and valuable.
Did i miss something

No, just someone who has been on here for years calling another poster who has also been on here for years “mate”.
Except that the second poster is a lady.
Always has been.
Small things that amuse my small mind.
That’s all.

I call all of my female friends mate on occasions.

Twomey has posted his updated form rankings on the AFL website. Just noting that this is a form guide, not a phantom draft.

A few tidbits from a Saints perspective (and in order of rankings):

  • Finlay Macrae, we will look at if he does slip (hard to see him still being around)
  • Brayden Cook, but more likely at the Collingwood or Richmond pick.
  • Jack Carroll, this seems to be more likely, with saying we are his most likely starting point (I do like this pick)
  • Nathan O'Driscoll, with a lot of phantom drafts having him higher, I didn't think this was likely
  • Zane Trew, a bit of a meh pick as (what I consider) a vanilla mid (accumulator)
Carroll is one I would certainly would be happy with, whilst O'Driscoll hadn't even been on the radar, as I thought he would go earlier.

Anyway, food for thought, however I think there are enough 185cm + midfield potential / flexibility players in or around our pick that seem like a good risk / reward option at that point in the draft.

My preference in order - Ford, Poulter, Carroll, O'Driscoll, Trew!
