Sumich is refreshingly honest about the kids out of WA.

Mentioned O'Driscoll and Carroll in favourable terms.

Brutally honest on Zane Trew. Said he could play but would sook if not going his way. Neeeds to work on attitude to make it.

Nice to hear him tell it as he sees it.

if only fremantle listened to him more... i remember him going on radio with paul haselby and absolutely begging freo to take naughton. haselby was backing him up.

Seems like the most lilely option with our first pick will be a midfielder.

I think there will be at least a couple of guns that will slip through to the 20's of this draft, here's hoping we get one.
Agree - I don't doubt they'll be looking at best available mid unless there's a gun tall that slides - a lot. Makes the later picks more interesting.

Given we've picked up Frawley and McKernan as stop gap mature agers, I think we might invest in a speculative tall forward/ruck with one of our late picks.

Someone who looked a possibility but no one really has any idea on how much they've developed over this missing season. Probably need to look at someone physically developed who won't need 2 or 3 years to build up the body.

Edit - had a look at Draft Central - maybe one of Lane, Neale, Walsh or Heath slide enough for us to get a look in.

Nice to hear him tell it as he sees Weagles picking up Trew for Pick #99*

So why did he talk up O'Driscoll and Carroll and said they should go in the top 25?

He also said Trew could play but has to work on his attitude.

Lots of better ways than talking him down in that way.

More time to dispose the ball, more opportunity to dispose of the ball, better options on the wings and mids running patterns etc. Anyway kicking is only one aspect, Jones is a poor kick, Seb not great. Dunstan being a fourth mid instead of a second mid takes the pressure off a bit.

As for kicking, general direction of Ming with Butler, Higgins and Lonie at his feet buzzing about.

I am not a fanboi of Dunstan, if Byrnes and Bytel or others take his spot, so be it, I just think a one position player benefits from better players being around him.

I think Dunstan would have been handy this year when we ran out of soldiers in the guts mid season. Remember two of our pure mids in Hanners and Crouch are injury prone, having Dunstan there is a bonus in my opinion.

Which was my point... he’s a depth player now.

I’m wrapt we’re developing a strong midfield group so players with significant limitations aren’t walk up starts.

He fits in anywhere- he’s F@&king tiny .
Brett Bowey and Rob Harvey made their debut together at the Whitten Oval maybe 1985?
His old man had great skills and quite quick for memory but a little fella and true rover .
The comment of would be First round pick if taller was made Of Caleb Daniel, look how he has turned out .
Pity we couldn’t have him as a free hit.We have to be the unluckiest club for F S.

Harvey didn't start until 1988

People get hung up on height, he is 2cm smaller than the reigning Brownlow Medalist.

If he was a little taller would be a certain top 15 pick in the draft . Great user of the ball and a great athlete.

If available at our pick then would be thrilled to pick him and not because Brett played for us.

Will be long gone by our second pick.

Funnily enough height saw both Gresh and Higgins drop out of top 10 contention.

In Gresh's case if that draft was held today he'd be top 5 (probably top 3).

We 100% will need to take a genuine key position kid with one of our picks, we have no developing key forwards outside of king, and we look super thin for key backs. I think we need a key forward more so then a key defender but outside the top 10 your not going to get much quality generally for key position players.

I think Sumo's brutal honesty is one of the main reasons why he's been overlooked for senior coaching jobs in the past.

Coach Darrel Baldoch debuted them in the same game I believe. Harvs was 16, Bowie not much older.
That was Brett.

David debuted in 1967 😗

Kaine Baldwin (Key Fwd) from Glenelg has been touted as a 1st round Draft Pick, but has had 2 Knee Operations in 2years so may drop down the Draft Board

NATHAN O'DRISCOLL
POS: Midfielder
Ht 187cm, Wt 78kg, DOB 17/5/02
From Perth/Western Australia

O'Driscoll has risen through every level he's played, making clubs confident they know what type of player they'll be getting if they select him. He was an All Australian at under-16s level and last year played a critical role in WA's championship team at the under-18 carnival in the midfield. He played for Perth's senior side late in the year and has tested terrifically well for speed (2.93 seconds), agility (8.12 seconds) and 2km time trial (6:23 minutes). O'Driscoll is a competitive player who works himself into the ground.

If not him? The Saints have an interest in WA midfielder Jack Carroll, while Zane Trew could also be contention around this mark. Running option Caleb Poulter may also appeal, along with inside brute Luke Pedlar. Jake Bowey is another in the Saints' range.

ST KILDA
Picks: 21, 64, 67, 74, 92, 106 (likely to use two selections)

St Kilda is seeing if it can edge up the order with its first-round pick, but it doesn't have many chips to make a move happen. Wherever it lands, it is likely the Saints only use one more selection for the draft after their pick at the end of the first round. That will come right at the back end of proceedings, although No.64 is likely to push in multiple positions after bids are matched in the fluid draft order. It is a long way back at that stage of the draft, but Malachy Carruthers will come into clubs' thoughts in the latter stages and would present St Kilda with a skilful kicker out of the backline. Subiaco's Nick Martin, a medium goalkicker, could also be around that stage of the draft.

“Hello Callow”

Would be happy with O’Driscoll/Poulter

Pedlar is interesting
Pedler doesn't sound like 1st round material but probably a reliable type for a later pick.
With Bytel, Byrnes and Dunny in the queue, you'd really only want a mid of high quality otherwise he'll just rot in the 2's and get delisted in 3 years with no games.

O'Driscoll/Poulter/Ford have something else to offer at least.
A better use of a pick for our list.
