We would have been able to get a questionable, developing tall that no one has heard of with our late pick.

Seems strange to use a first round on when and pass on some highly rated mids.

journalists and bloggers are not recruiters...

they're not related

Mayo was delisted because he did an ACL, with reduced list size you can't be punting on a guy who's going to have to go through ACL rehab, after being ranked less favourably than your last placed rookie

i'm a big fan of Mayo but i understand the clubs thinking around delisting him and i think a guy ranked 26th in his draft is more highly thought of than a guy who couldn't find a rookie spot
Rubbish, we've picked up players with the same injury concerns at much higher picks.

It's just convenient for you that our best available at 26 was a tall. Just like me you had no idea who the club would draft. As you said yourself we are very even across the board (which I disagree with as well - think we need more help in the middle).

Feel a bit deflated after that tbh.

It's a massive gamble for a key forward similar to Josh Battle who we can't even find a permanent spot in the forward line already for.

I could understand if we were desperate for that type.

Obviously they see something there though, they must have thought he'd be a big bolter if he were able to play this year.

FMD, imagine being recruited to develop into a replacement for a 20 or 21 year old.

Reckon we'll land O'Driscoll or Ford at our next pick and we'll just have to do the old Ben Long / Josh Battle mental switcheroo.

Yeah its like no one ever gets injured or loses form.

Reckon we should just have 22 on our list. [emoji15]

Matthew ALLISON

Clubs:
Calder Cannons/Vic Metro

Position: Key Forward

Size: 194cm/81kg

Teams that may suit: Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond

Bio: Allison has been a big riser for clubs on their draft boards across the year, with the tall having the potential to burst into first round. The 18-year-old might be very raw given his limited output for the Cannons in the NAB League last year, but has plenty of scope for development. At the Vic Metro combine, he ran 2.97s in the 20m sprint and ran a good 2km time trial (6:17).

Yep, hope he goes well but not sold on the selection at all. Our recruiting team have been criticised on here for a long time for their selections. I haven't personally, but I can't see the reasoning behind this pick. Need midfielders.

Now watch Max Heath go the pick before our next.

were those same players ranked lower than your last placed rookie? because thats the reality on mayo, he was a mid season selection as a 19 year old. extreme roughy.

are you arguing that mayo is a better prospect than who we just drafted at pick 26?

I don’t know why fans would bother to get frustrated by a pick in the 20s. We’ve got pretty much no genuine idea what’s going on with that draft range in any year, let alone in a year with so little to judge off. We get so keen on a slider but there’s generally a reason why a player slides. We were all stoked when Hugh Goddard slid to the 20s.

Settle guys, lets just see what we end up with at nights end.

Lets be frank, nobody has a clue about a lot of these players, and our drafters/recruiters have the runs on the board.

Never more so than this year.

How tall is he? On the tv they said 190cm, now ive read 192 and 194.

I'm not happy I waited 2 and a half hours to get another undersized forward with a 1st round pick which might of gone to the rookie draft.

The club obviously knows a lot more than any of us but geewhiz I'm just shocked it was a bit of a no-namer. No highlights package anywhere, the hosts don't know a single thing about him, no stats to show or even a conversation about the kid. FMD hahah - 2 hours for not a single gee up about our new recruit? :tearsofjoy:
