Hi all - my name is manang, and I'm a moderator over at the Sweet F.A. board on Bigfooty. Nice to meet you.

You may have noticed on the main board that we have decided to run a simulated AFL season using the algorithm we use in the Sweet F.A.

Just for some background, Qooty is a completely random football simulator - it takes lists of players and generates commentary of a football game, in doing so generating results/stats etc.

What we are going to do is use real player names and simulate the 17 round AFL season with all clubs on board.

Each week there will be 2 rounds, complete with match threads for banter against opposition fans. At this stage it seems these threads will just be in the main board but that may change.
At the end, there will be a Brownlow Medallist and Coleman Medallist as well as a Norm Smith medallist.

Because we have no GCS fans currently in the Sweet F.A, I have volunteered to be the coach of the Gold Coast side. While I’m a Richmond fan, I have a soft spot for GC because of the Tigers players you have on your list - especially Snipper Miles and Brandon Ellis.

If any of you would like to take over from me and are happy to name the team sheet each week instead of me, feel free to shoot me a PM.

All this means is that I will be the one submitting our team sheet for each round, but I will be looking to YOU to help me out with what changes we think need to be made or should be made.

For example, you might want to give Corey Ellis a shot on a wing, but if he stinks it up you might want to drop him for the next match. I’d be the one to submit the team sheets in the correct format and list any changes.

For round 1 we are just using the AFL R1 named teams (minus two from the bench, as Qooty only needs 20 players). We won’t care if a player is injured in real life - if he’s in your best 22 we can name him, so if you have players who couldn't play in Round 1 of the real AFL season, we can make some changes to the team for the next round and each successive week.

The intention is for this to be a bit of fun - a distraction from everything else that’s going on. Because the SIM is random, there’s a chance the Suns could play finals or even jag the flag!

Let me know if you have questions, or otherwise/in addition head over to the main board and look out for the match thread (I'll create one shortly).

I can help you with Best 22 if no one has hit you up yet
Yeah go for it - I was planning on looking through your Best 22 thread as well, but fire away.

As I say, we can look at the form of players as the matches go on and can change our 22 whenever we like.

MATCH-UPS :
  • While the match-up was a bit of a side-show, it could be argued that Sam Day had the better game against Alex Witherden - although there was very little in it. - 77m from 11 to 88.
  • Toe to toe throughout, Daniel Rich beat Ben Ainsworth today - but not by much. - 94m from 4 to 98.
  • While worlds weren't set on fire, Harris Andrews massacred Ben King. - 66m from 20 to 86.
  • In an epic battle, Brandon Ellis and Hugh McCluggage were evenly matched. - 97m from 0 to 97.
  • In an epic battle, Zac Bailey beat Brayden Fiorini today - but not by much. - 95m from 0 to 95.
  • In an enthralling contest, Daniel McStay came out tops over the brave Caleb Graham. - 98m from 1 to 99.
  • Neither getting, near the ball much, Connor Budarick gave Charles Cameron a lesson. - 21m from 2 to 23.
  • In what was a very slow day for both, Sam Collins had Charles Cameron's measure. - 41m from 53 to 94.
  • Neither having much reason to brag, not much between Will Brodie and Charles Cameron - the former was probably a smidgeon better. - 2m from 38 to 40.
  • Neither having much reason to brag, Connor Budarick was slightly more polished than Harris Andrews. - 8m from 90 to 98.
  • Neither having much reason to brag, David Swallow did well against Darcy Gardiner. - 4m from 11 to 15.
  • While very slim pickings for both players, Darcy Gardiner was slightly more polished than Nick Holman. - 17m from 74 to 91.
  • While the match-up was a bit of a side-show, it could be argued that Noah Answerth had the better game against Darcy MacPherson - although there was very little in it. - 94m from 4 to 98.
  • In a bit of an exhibition, David Swallow did a demolition job on Marcus Adams. - 57m from 34 to 91.
  • In what became a bit of a clinic, Touk Miller and Dayne Zorko had an epic contest. - 99m from 1 to 100.
  • In what became a bit of a clinic, Deven Robertson did well against Hugh Greenwood. - 18m from 78 to 96.
  • In what was a very slow day for both, Deven Robertson won the bout with Nick Holman. - 0m from 20 to 20.
  • While worlds weren't set on fire, I'm not sure that what Hugh Greenwood did to Eric Hipwood should be entirely legal. - 44m from 31 to 75.
  • Spending most of the game pushing and shoving each other, Eric Hipwood did well against Sam Collins. - 28m from 0 to 28.
  • Neither having much reason to brag, Hugh Greenwood and Jarryd Lyons had an epic contest. - 6m from 4 to 10.
  • In a resume-material performance, Jarrod Berry was easily the winner in the clash with Jack Bowes. - 72m from 27 to 99.
  • While worlds weren't set on fire, Lincoln McCarthy massacred Jack Bowes. - 23m from 0 to 23.
  • While very slim pickings for both players, Jack Lukosius came out tops over the brave Oscar McInerney. - 91m from 2 to 93.
  • In a resume-material performance, Stefan Martin had Jarrod Witts's measure. - 99m from 0 to 99.
  • In an enthralling contest, Jarryd Lyons was slightly more polished than Matthew Rowell. - 87m from 12 to 99.
  • In a resume-material performance, Lachie Weller exposed Lachie Neale's frailties. - 88m from 1 to 89.
  • Despite neither player having much impact, Lincoln McCarthy was easily the winner in the clash with Lachie Weller. - 9m from 90 to 99.
  • Neither having much reason to brag, Lincoln McCarthy and Nick Holman were evenly matched. - 17m from 45 to 62.

  • Toe to toe throughout, Mitch Robinson did well against Noah Anderson. - 91m from 9 to 100.

We get to redeem ourselves on Wednesday (the games are close together). We take on the Dees and I’ll make the team changes we’ve been discussing.

What the frig is this thread about??
Hey mate.

In short...
  • As we know, the AFL season is on hold and people are bored
  • There's a board on Bigfooty called the Sweet F.A. where we the posters are part of virtual clubs and play matches each week. The matches are played out via a simulator program designed by a Bigfooty poster (Mobbs) many years ago and are random
  • We decided that we should run a simulator for the AFL teams according to a 17-round season as drafted by the AFL and see if people want to hang out/get involved for a distraction
  • Because there are no SUNS fans in the Sweet F.A. I put my hand up to run things for SUNS matches (with support from your mods)
The plan is for each team to play two games per week, using real player names in the simulator. The matches are being played out on the main board (they have the little blue prefixes 'e-AFL').

Just a bit of fun and, if things pick up posting-wise, a chance for some banter against opposition posters.

Well thanks for keeping the flag flying for us then.
Surprised Sunner one of our board members didn’t put his hand up.
Might take a look later.
thanks for the courtesy of taking the time to reply to me.

So I went and took a look at the main board to see the eAFL threads involving us and what do I find??

a thread started by a Richmond campaigner hiding behind his big VFL club and money with a discussion on murdering our precious beloved club from existence.

I hadn’t ventured off our board in quite a few months. I really never should.

That board is a scourge - you’ll get no arguments from me.

The occasional wander into there and being sucked into it has cost me more than a few points.
I must stay away.
Yeah it’s mainly just people who want to get a rise out others. Richmond cops it hard on there in general, which just makes some of them want to get ‘revenge’. It’s a vicious cycle.
