Last year, 29 of 30 Hawthorn players to play 5+ games averaged more tackles per game than Ben Brown has across his career. He's quite good at what he does best, but he's almost the anti-Hawthorn KPF in that respect.

If it was just cap space we'd be taking a hit on then I could justify bringing in an out of form 28 year old KPF with upside. But surely he goes for something significant in a trade. And surely there are other teams Brown would suit more.

The move would make a bit more sense if O'Brien or Gunston left, I suppose.

Brown kicks goals. Hawthorn doesn't. And none of Lewis, O'Brien or Patton do. Yes he doesn't do other stuff, but goals are pretty important.

Brown has had a terrible 2020, but with serious mitigating personal circumstances. The 3 seasons prior to this he kicked 63, 61 and 64 goals.

If he comes cheap, I am ok with it, albeit he's not in the age bracket I think we should be targeting. It comes down to the price.

Brown would make sense only if Patton wasn’t on the list. How would Patton and Brown be able to work together when they both play as full forwards? It wouldn’t work!
What was the point of giving Patton 3 years if we aren’t gonna play him and just recruit ben brown instead when we aren’t contending. You add Ben brown to a 2016 hawks team not to this team that’s rebuilding and has abysmal inside 50 delivery

I don't think Brown is a good fit for us but let's not alter history here.

In 2017, 2018 and 2019 he kicked 61, 63 and 64 goals. Until this year his lowest was 18 in his debut season. The most goals O'Brien has kicked is 19.
How many goals did small forwards kick along side of him when he had years of 60 plus?
If Gunston and Punky are still on our list and kicking 35 plus each next season BB isn't kicking close to his max totals.
When BB is kicking 65 goals a season nobody else is getting a look in.
Hurts team balance, that and his knee is why he is on the nose at North.

This was from the Dee's board. IF this is the case then Hawthorn would make sense as an alternative. Clarko and the club have been very open about how guys like Smith and Stratton have impacted the club culture to be more accomodating and accepting of different individual personalities.

Highly speculative but just something that stuck around in my head with the Stratton praise and send-off.

Brown really isn't a fit for us. Sure he had a couple good years but that was playing in a side that had no other forward options. Don't think he will be at Hawthorn.

They won't work together, simply because Patton is made of glass and won't be on the park.

Browns a really good footballer and he will run all day giving us someone to kick to but it’s a bit of a headscratcher.
At 28 I can’t see him being in our next flag. The position he plays won’t help anyone else develop so he only makes us a more middling team.
Odds are Roos will also want a second round pick minimum which we would be insane to give up. We need as much young talent as possible.

I'd call Freo for Hogan every single time I had the chance (who is rumoured to be on the outer too) before I'd select another slow forward. OK a forward who has performed better than all our current forwards but he's 28 and slow, runs like a robot and reminds me of Hymie in get smart, we already have a younger model in Lewis impersonating Hymie this year.

Are we rebuilding? Or looking for a sustained period of mediocrity? Even Brown at his best doesn't help us play sustained football finals over a period of time before he's too old. At his best he moves us perhaps 7-13 with almost no chance of winning a GF, hardly where we want to be. He actually suits a team in the 8 especially if NM are going to pay a bit of his salary.

A simple example is if Brown gets right (and he's had some pretty horrific personal issues that anyone could understandably struggle with) and was good before that. But I reckon if you swapped Brown into Collingwood instead of Cox based on his previous form it's a pretty big upgrade for them. They walk into top 4 this year with Brown on 2019 form. Probably do so with half that form.

Brown departing Roos
Cameron staying at Gils
Daniher ? Swans....unsure

Wonder if Roos will make a play for Gunston. Not for sale in my opinion.
But might be an offer too good to refuse.

interesting times

Any of Geelong, Collingwood, Brisbane, St Kilda or Port would be silly not to make a serious offer to Gunston. He’s a bloody star and a big game player. He is objectively the type of player you bring in to help win a flag.

We should offer him the captaincy and then put it to him whether he wants to lead a rebuild or leave to hunt a short term premiership

I know this will polarise a lot of opinions but hear me out.

With all the players possibly on the move that are affordable in regards to trade value and I see upside in as a future player is Jayden Hunt.

He reminds me a little of Michael Osborne. Explosive speed, can kick 3 or 4 in a game then disappear and then pop up and do something magical to lift the side.

For some real outside pace, bite and ability inside forward 50 to get on the end of them he is one I would like us to be looking at.

Clarko could be the man to bring the best out of someone like Jayden.
