What did I just read loL

The AFL's stated aim with the fixture is that the higher a team finished on the ladder, the harder their opponents are next year.

For example: Collingwood play Richmond, Essendon, Melbourne, WC and Brisbane - those teams combined for 64 wins in 2019.

I've added it up for all teams to see how close the AFL actually gets to its aim.

The answer is - pretty close.

Whether or not this should be how the fixture is done is another question.

Tough fixture for us. Double-ups against four of this year’s finalists plus Dees who will be the big improvers of 2020.

When was last time we played Swans only once in a season AND it was in Melbourne???

Hate that, basically takes away any advantage of a home game for us. Not sure about Suns round 23, seems like a possible training run them a week off leading to finals, not the best.

Especially off the back of 2x Perth trips in the last 5 rounds.

Home games against Saints and North at Docklands.
The traditional one is ridiculous let alone going back to a second. Easy fixes too, the G is empty on Friday night (R7) when we play the saints. Would also make more sense playing GC at Marvel.

Predictable fixturing for us. It’s the very reason we should be looking to get out of all pre determined games such as ANZAC day, Easter Thursday and Queens Birthday, we were always playing these teams twice and with the split of the ladder between teams also handed us Richmond

I look forward to the outcry from situations we create

Very tough draw with double ups against the 2018 and 2019 premiers as well as 2018 preliminary finalist and 2019 semi finalist. Plus Essendon.

Bizarre no travel to Adelaide but two trips to Perth.

No Carlton double up is rare.

Lots of winnable games at the mcg v interstate visitors .

Only three games at marvel. It’s probably preferable if anything if two of them are nominated as home games. Nothing to cry about there.

Travel evenly spread although two trips to Perth late in the season isn’t ideal

Finally an easy round 23 game. We never get those.

Simple rule:
Never get caught between the AFL and a $

Stated aims disappear if there is a buck to be made

I might’ve read this wrong, but we have double up games against 4 of last years top 8. Everyone else has 3, except the Bulldogs who only have 1. Lock them in for top 8 next year.

I'll give the AFL some small amount of credit for this, though. People have said every single year that the AFL would abandon its 6-6-6 model for the fixture whenever it was convenient for them and every single year they've stuck exactly to it.

Collingwood and GWS have 4
Richmond, Geelong, WC, North have 3
Brisbane, Essendon, Hawthorn, Port, Adelaide, Freo, Sydney, Carlton have 2
St Kilda, Melbourne, GC, Bulldogs have 1
