Analysis 2020 Fixture - Thoughts and guesses

Unfortunately as the melbourne games issue is a recurring theme it is the reason I'm a supporter and never a member since the merger. (Oh and the melbourne member price is a complete rip off, even more so in 2020, but that is a different whinge for a separate thread [emoji3])
In all honesty, the club should discontinue the charade and be done with Victorian memberships.

As a Brisbane based Lions fanatic I love our home draw this season, can not wait.

Although I'm going on a footy binge long weekend trip to Melbourne in 2020 so there are slim pickings with only 4 games in Melbourne in rounds 1, 5, 16 & 18, I like the look of rounds 16 & 18 as we should be able to get in at least 3 games.... it feels like a long wait right now though.

Bummer that there are only 4 games in Melbourne for our loyal southern fans, I thought it was part of the merger agreement that there would be a minimum of 6 games in Melbourne or have I got that wrong? Roylion ??

No you haven't, 6 it is.

GWS must have some other agreement in place to warrant eight games in Victoria. Even Sydney get 6 games in Melbourne.

Brisbane is the only non-Victorian team that has any agreement in place to play a certain amount of games in Victoria. Pity the club doesn't continuously push this point with the AFL or at least publicly make noises around that fact.

Pros : Literally everything (good double ups, thursday and friday nights, blockbusters, no double travel) except the cons
Cons : 4 games in Melbourne

This is the point where value for money is going out the door now with our memberships. You are better off paying general admission to games as you will be better off with money in your pocket, not that we would do it though as we have been members since the merger and the money is going to the club. You could have some percentage though who does not renew. They offer replacement games to use your membership but not everyone is financially secured that they can make a trip to tassie, brisbane or canberra.
Just a seperate question when was the last time we were ever only issued with 4 games in Melbourne.?

Lets be honest, you are paying for the "free" ticket with your membership anyways based on the club ripping you off with the price of the membership.

Don't believe Swann's BS for a second, nothing but a used car salesman. The replacement games aren't anything but Swann trying to dress this mess up with more BS.

Never.

This is the least amount of games in Melbourne in what will be our 24 years as the Brisbane Lions.

But remember, Melbourne fans are rejoicing after being rewarded with the first game of the year being played in Melbourne.

Amazing achievement Lions_Insider please pass on all of the Melbourne fans elation to Mr Swann.

GWS don't even have to ask and get rewarded with 8 games in Victoria despite no links to the state, pass that onto Mr Swann whilst you are there.

Six it is.

7.2 h) The Merged Club ["Merged Club" means Brisbane Bears] will play one half of the total number of home and away games per season at the Gabba and as many Melbourne based away premiership games as possible will be played at Optus Oval or the Melbourne Cricket Ground (but not less than 6) with any other away premiership games at any of Waverley, Optus Oval or the Melbourne Cricket Ground at which Melbourne based members of the Merged Club will have home ground status...

May not be for you, but for many others it is. Sure, I go most years, but there are many that don't because the only option of seats is to sit in the worst seats in the house and exposed to the elements. I completely understand why few do want to go down there, so please don't simply use it that it is a really viable option to do a three hour round trip with no suitable seating options.

You know what, I wouldn't consider it that much of a big deal if we also got 7 games in Melbourne like GWS do or Sydney getting 6 games in Melbourne.

Yeah righto, I'll do what ever you need me too... But Vic fans just ignoring it and carrying on as if it's like traveling to Mars should also be reasonable. It's not ideal, but it's a Victorian game that Vic members should get around without too much fuss.

Noticed the club has now turned our misfortune into a chance to fill seats in Tassie and Canberra, I'm sure you are stoked with that!

Lions_Insider

I know you have no direct control over this, but I'm angry and will continue to tag you.

I will rephrase this comment at least 7 times.

**** the AFL.

Lions_Insider I’m relatively new to following football and the Lions.

Next season will be the first season I will buy a season ticket, solely because it’s the first fixture scheduling where I can attend the majority of home matches due to working weekends.

However I believe the club owes it to our Fitzroy members to publicly comment on the AFL’s failure to honour the merger agreement yet again, and short change our Fitzroy members with only four games in Melbourne.

The decent, and most sensible thing for the club to do, is to offer our Victorian members the choice of a four game, or five game membership, at a pro rata rate.

Have you really fallen for that?

Add in something that you know 95% of the fans won't attend, but try to appease yourself that you really care. Further, give them access to games that will barely offer you seat and be exposed to the elements. I get better than that at Sorrento games, yet for AFL games I should stand in the rain and not be able to sit in the comfort of a seat in a grandstand?

Amazed that anyone hasn't seen right through that BS, but clearly you've fallen for it.

What's the justification for that Lions_Insider? Has the price of fridge magnets or whatever other useless crap that is included with memberships skyrocketed that warrants a price freeze?

I'm guessing the club won't make up anything in these supposed additional windfalls that these Thursday / Friday nights are going to bring in? Given the extra dollars, perhaps the club could kick in free air flights and accommodation to make up for the extortionist prices they are imposing on Vic members for a whole 4 games in 2020.

I’d love to see a partnership with an airline that gives paid up vic members a discount for flights to a game once a year. Hell, let’s start a lions air bnb type thing. Happy to host some Melbourne fans at ours for a game sometime next year.

The club and / or the Qld Gov't seemed to be arrange something for one of the Vic clubs this past season. Pity the same has never applied to the club's Vic supporter base in 23 years, but good to see they'll do something for another club's supporter base.

I don't think it would make any difference because when in past years the club has publically repeated their requests for the merger agreement to be honoured you've chosen too ignore that too, much as you're choosing to ignore that the club doesn't make the draw.

Write/tweet/blockade the AFL. The club has no say in the matter.

When have I ignored that?

Its pretty evident that there would be a lot more sympathy for the club if they publicly voiced their concern. Instead, you have the CEO carrying on like a smug twat on Melbourne radio about how great the draw is and then to rub further salt into the wound, announces that Victorian fans have been "rewarded" with us playing the first game in Melbourne. Great, only three more across 5 months of footy.
