Preview 2020 Fixture

We need to win our next two games. Both will be difficult but these are the mid tier games good sides win to establish themselves as definite threats rather than regular teases.

If we get to 7-1 we are a near top 4 certainty at that point. And given the restrictions this year, im not concerned about home field advantage in the finals. Could very well be playing games on a neutral venue. Ideally we finish top 2 to have an Adelaide oval advantage, but it won't be as big a deal if we don't imo.

Actually getting some non-Victorian teams on national broadcasts, who knew that was possible.
Kind of have to when the non-Victorian teams need to play the Victorian teams.

Port Adelaide is thrilled to be playing its Round 8 fixture vs St Kilda as a home game at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night, July 25.

The club has played one home game – the Round 2 Showdown – in the first seven Rounds of the AFL season.

Since Round 2, Port Adelaide has played five consecutive games in Queensland with three at Metricon Stadium and two at the Gabba. The club also played its Round 1 game on the Gold Coast before the Covid shutdown in late March.

Port Adelaide chief executive Keith Thomas says the entire club is looking forward to playing again at home in front of its loyal Members and supporters.

“We can’t wait to run onto Adelaide Oval in front of our amazing Members who have been so loyal and supportive this season,” Mr Thomas said.

“Along with our dedicated corporate partners, our Members have been patiently watching the team from afar and I know they are itching to get back to Adelaide Oval to support our players.

“And it’s a great reward for our players and coaching staff who have literally been on the road for the last five weeks.

Those cocaine snorters and hooker booker executives at 7 and AFL chasing their KPI's so they can keep purchasing, are giving the usual suspects plenty of Thursday and Friday night games, but what is this love for the Bulldogs on Thursday and Friday nights and Melbourne the best time slot on Sunday - mid arvo???

How many SMA flogs and St Kilda supporters?

Well the SMA only allocates 28% of their memberships to Port, there are only 8000 SMA memberships available, they aren't fully subscribed, 50% capacity, so based on that they should get less than a thousand.

How many SA based saints members would there be? 500 at a stretch? Based on that they should be allocated 250.

Fox Footy gets massively ripped off. By far and away their biggest subscribers both in raw numbers and proportionately are Victorian yet they get mainly non Vic games. People in the rest of Australia get their Local teams on FTA meaning the need to get Fox Footy is negated. Fox get screwed.

That's why in the 2017-22 TV deal they have it that the 4 WA and SA teams will each get 3 of their games delayed by 3 hours to try and force people in those states to buy Foxtel.

About 8 years ago I read that household penetration rate for Foxtel was 41% in Sydney but around 16% in both Perth and Adelaide and both Melbourne and Brisbane around 30%.

ROUND 8 FIXTURE (All times local)

Thursday July 23

Gold Coast Suns v Western Bulldogs (Metricon Stadium) – 7.40pm

Friday July 24

GWS Giants v Richmond (Giants Stadium) – 7.50pm

Bulldogs, and two teams coming from eyesore games.

The Round 8 fixture doesn’t make sense.

Both Essendon and Melbourne play on Sunday.

Why wouldn’t the AFL bias them in round 8 to Thursday/Friday fixtures. They then play the catch up game mid week (say the following Wednesday).

This will open up a late Sunday/Monday games for both teams in round 9.

I would have thought carrying that the catch up game was a liability, the quicker they fix that the more flexibility they will have with the draw.

I would be surprised if they had shown common sense...

If the VFL don’t send any vic finals contenders like Collingwood or Richmond to play us here only confirms the bias that exists
