We hate Geelong yes, and we all enjoyed them losing a grand final.
BUT, will we all enjoy another 12 months of hearing about Richmonds magnificent era and how their era is better than ours.
I have Richmond friends and I can tell you it’s enough to make you break the friendship they’re far far far worse than Geelong people!!
I don’t think even Tigers supporters would say they’re as good as us in the threepete era. They’re good, but the league is far more diluted than it was even 5 years ago. Hawks 2015 pound for pound would destroy them. But hey, I haven’t ventured to the main board yet...

there is no group more drunk on their own bathwater than Tigers fans..

Nothing is a given obviously but in 4 years no one has really come to grips with Richmond's chaos style, so I'm not going to predict it'll happen next season with Richmond not set to lose anyone of importance and the MCG likely back in the fold also.

Could we beat anyone on our day ? Probably has this season showed. Are we likely to win enough games to play finals ? Unlikely, I'd say it's likely we'll face another bottom 6 finish in 2021.

Saints beat them, we beat them, they're not invincible. Like what happened to our club, you can't stay on top forever. Our club losing players, losing assistant coaches(Who then wins the premierships), losing ip left right and centre and haven't recovered since.

If Richmond win again next year good on them, but being defitist even before the match begin won't help our case.

Let's hope that our club are on the way up in whatever pace or time it will be.

No getting away from Richmond earning my respect, Hardwick & Dusty especially. You could see they were a disorganized mess down back without Vlastin in the first half and the Handbaggers were all over them, but they went to another level after that. That puts to bed any talk of them being merely an average team who lucked-out during a weak era, average teams don't come back from being down by 20+ points in grand finals.

As for Geelong watching Dangerflog, Scablett & Duckwood trudge off without a Premiership gave me a warm happy feeling. I haven't seen Chris Scott's presser yet, saving that little nugget of pleasure for today! Its as if the entire club has gone out of its way to assemble a cadre of entitled arseholes so watching them come up short is an absolute joy. It also cements Danger & Scott's reputations as H&A heroes & finals chokers, nor should we forget Tummy Porkins who missed shots he'd usually kick as he often does in big games.

So I'm hugely grateful to Richmond for ending the season on a bright note when we could've been inundated with insufferable Holy Trinity bullshit for months.

I reckon Dusty has taken Hodge's mantle as the finals specialist at this point. I think that's in part because his performances are so much more elite as an individual which his team feeds into, whereas Hodge was the general and the on field coach who won games through communication and clamping down when he had to with his on field heroics.

I don't think the Richmond dynasty is as impressive as ours YET, but they've got another few years challenging I would say.

Also might be contentious, but I am NOT about the night time grandfinal- might be better at the G but it didn't do it for me.

I think Dusty is more like Derm and Hodge more like Conan
Both big game players who go about it differently but can both be deadly

3 norm smiths is an achievement, Hodge could have had 3 but he also I think had more competition from team mates

Not taking anything away from Martin they wouldn't have 3 flags without him, same as I don't think we'd have 4 without Hodge

Both champions

His kicking sets him right apart from anyone else currently .
Kicks incredible goals regularly , very safe set shot or on the run plus is a very handy field kick.

His influence on games as an individual is right up there with Wayne Carey now.

North would be battling all day and look average and Carey in 15 mins would rip the game apart and get north over the line.

Martin now does this regularly for the Tigers.

Wouldn't it be great( though prolong the torture probably!) to just go back to regular quarter lengths for the GF? These short quarters do my head in and with the style of play that teams are favouring most small leads seem to be enough. I can't even recall why shorter quarters were brought in? I truly hope our game recovers next season.🙏

Shorter quarters and increased breaks between quarters and goals were brought in to increase TV ad revenue in a hope that that would offset the risk and change in the fixture, reduction in number of games, and lack of crowd revenues, and therefore AFL, club and player revenues.

If they can get away with it when things return to normal, they will - we can’t let them.

What a sad and pathetic thread.

I better get out of here before the jealousy and insecurity stain my boots..
Considering you took the time out of your sad and sorry day to see what Hawks people are saying, in their own room, it reeks of handbagger insecurity.

No mate, we are laughing AT you..

What are peoples thoughts on a night GF?

Personally I hated it

Waiting all day to watch the build-up and then the actual game was bad enough as a neutral fan, cannot imagine how I would go if the Hawks were playing!

Just on the pre-game entertainmen, can we just do without bands playing?
Have the motorcade of retiring players etc, but to a soundtrack
Last night was horrid!

I think his point - and he’s right - is that success is success and that’s objective. You can subjectively argue who would have beaten whom, who had more talent, a better coach, softer opponents, more ground advantage etc. That’s an opinion game

But if Richmond do win in 2021 and have a threepeat with 4 in 5 years, that is objectively more successful than the Hawthorn or Brisbane sides.

A long way to go though. Back to back is hard. Back to back to back is astonishingly hard. They are a Martin injury away from it being no chance and a lot can happen
Its 'the Don' discussion

People say look at the average he is the best , then others say poorer standard etc so he cant be .
Its just opinion, no actual way of proving anything .

But we all know our sides were the best 🙂

I thought a night GF might be good but it isnt

Cant wait for the new normal to return

I saw loads of tweets yesterday saying they weren’t enjoying it - might have to give it a go in Melbourne before a decision is made but I reckon for the most part what we want will be ignored if it was a ratings bonanza

Martin is a bit like Goodes at his peak. Both athletic freaks who can physically dominate like no other. Both kick goals for fun.

The other 21 players only have to try and beat their direct opponent or nullify the game enough that dusty or Goodes can just dominate their direct opponent and win the game. They don’t have to worry about defending just see ball get ball.

It’s why Richmond play the chaos style. Just get the ball forward at any cost. Try to give Dusty as many chances as possible because he will capitalise. In this era where it’s all about capitalising on momentum, Dusty is king. He won’t turn a game. He needs others to lift before he can show his wares. But as soon as Richmond start winning around the ground Dusty is going to drive the nail in the coffin.

Definitely best 3 big time players in the last 15 years. The others being Burgers and Hodge. All 3 for different reasons. Hodge for his ability to play any role for the team at a high level e.g. 08 compared to 14 and 15. Will lift his team off the canvas. Martins ability to take a game away given a sniff. And burgers ability to win quarters that win the game. And if we were ever 3 points down needing to win a clearance Burgers is so far ahead of anyone else.

Never been a fan of the idea, but it was mainly because most games used to be played during the day in the H&A season ( which would give an advantage to teams with heavy night-time schedules ) and that is less of an issue now.

Night games aren't "family friendly" if you have young children.

I'm ok with Richmond winning their three flags...they don't play the most attractive brand..but Hardwick has got them playing as a team...and they have one quality that alot of teams don't have, they are fighters. Credit to them they deserve their recent success!
I'm glad Geelong didnt win..they have a sense of entitlement about them. Richmond showed them that you have to play to the end.
Oh what to give to have a player like Martin in your team...Richmond are blessed. He kept them in the game and steered them to the win!

So sad to see the end of the holy trinity

I recall when they announced Ablett was returning to Geelong for the 2018, the formation of the holy trinity, etc. All the guys at our cricket club had them down to win the flag and I argued it would take more than the return of Ablett for Geelong to be successful. Guess who was right? :)

Agree - fell flat in my opinion

Felt a bit like “Friday Night Football”...never had any GF to me

Hate to break it you but Richmond beat us back then with THAT team. In fact, they had the better of us between 2012 and 2015. 99DE508F-13D0-4597-B1A6-7305B2005565.png
