I watched the replay last night and my take on the performance

Nank V Stanley
I reckon Nank halved this contest and that result was huge for us
IT was a great battle all game and both rucked well and hunted the ball around the ground

the midfield

Edwards & Prestia V Duncan & Guthrie

PRestia seemed a little quiet but very good in key moments , Edwards terrific
the Geelong pair really good very solid all game
I'd rate these as halved

Lynch & Jack V Hawkins & Rohan
All four were contained by 1st class defense
Jack & Tom stayed in the game and continued to do "little " team things
Hawkins & Rohan also stayed in the game and got important touches
by felt our two got ahead by the 1% ers

Astbury Balta Grimmes V Henderson Taylor Kolajazni
both defences played really well both were as tight as a fishes ...
both really accountable , plenty of flack around for Taylor as being too old too slow
he did a fantastic job but was spent late in the game , I would have been extremely proud of that effort if he was in a tigers jumper
our guys had the added pressure of Vlastuin off early and Broad off briefly

although there was a 30 pt split on the final siren the Geelong defence held firm under relentless pressure

so I'd put the two lots of tall defenders as equal or there abouts

the two areas that told

Dusty & Cotch V Danger & Selwood

or do we go
Cotch V Selwood
both lead from the front
both do a power of work
I think Selwoods output is down off just two years ago
while Cotch (and the coaches) have been more careful and preserved his body better
I'd have Cotch slightly ahead of Selwood

Edwards in a post match interview talking about Dusty put Danger in the same category
you just hope they are a little off
Like Selwood I think old father time is catching up with Dangerfield
he is still a very good and damaging player but not at his Brownlow level
we were very Danger aware and our team defense very smoothering on him

Dusty , undisputed best on ground , take away his 4 goals and Geelong spirits would have lifted and possibly win

and from a team perspective

attacking the ball in numbers
structures
covering for other players caught out of position

both sides made the GF because they are very good in all areas

BUT I reckon we had them shaded in all areas
and if we had a 5th quarter ie(normal amount of game time) it would have been a massacre
that little differential on all those things then gets magnified later in games

for me it was satisfying to beat a side that played well on the day and I'm sure that will stay with the playing group for a long time

Dusty is the finals GOAT
I'm old enough to remember Barry Cable and was at the 74 GF where we beat North and Cable played
