Lifted the below from the Essendon board following the Herald Sun article about apparently only having 23 fit players at the moment. Not sure how many of these will really impact their season but Lore is very accurate with her information so it's the best we'll get for now.

Devon Smith is the only one on that list I'd think has any relevance, and he's appeared to be training with the group OK from the photos, so maybe it's just managing loads pre-Christmas for him.

Based on the bit I can get from the HS article preview, and the last injury update we got for the pre-season, the ones who aren't fit seem to be:
  1. Heppell (unfused growth plate)
  2. Daniher (groin)
  3. Fantasia (hip)
  4. Shiel ? - Listed in the Herald Sun article, but we were never told he was having surgery for anything...
  5. Hurley (shoulder reconstruction)
  6. Gleeson (ankle arthroscopy)
  7. Guelfi (lateral meniscus)
  8. Zaharakis (syndesmosis)
  9. Mosquito (hamstring)
  10. Gown (foot stress fracture)
  11. Stewart (groin)
  12. Mutch (fractured knee cap)
  13. Smith (knee) - I thought he was going to be ready for full training last we heard, but who knows?
  14. Draper (ACL)
  15. Johnson (ACL)
I dunno who the other 8 would be. There are some that seem to be constantly managing injuries that may have had something done, but you'd think they'd be listed in the headline alongside Heppell, Daniher, Fantasia, Shiel, Hurley if they were noteworthy. So probably not Hooker for example.

Not sure how they're defining fully fit, but there may be some older players or some draftees on lighter training loads just coz that they're counting as well..?

RICHMOND:
-Dylan Grimes: minor wrist operation. very close to return to full training, only missing out on certain contact work.
-Toby Nankervis: post-season groin surgery. waiting to see how body recovers in january. some doubt for round 1.
-Jack Graham: shoulder reconstruction. will join contest work after new year.
-Shai Bolton: shoulder reconstruction. will join contest work after new year.
-Jack Higgins: expected to miss most of 2020 season following brain surgery
Shai Bolton only had a shoulder clean up, not a reco so should be expected to have a pretty quick recovery compared to Jack Graham
Jack Higgins was expected to miss most of the year prior to his second round of surgery, however the result was that good he'll be back in full training after the Xmas break and could be a chance for Round 1. I expect they'll be cautious with him given how much training he missed, but not sure it will be most of the 2020 season.

HAWTHORN star Tom Mitchell still has no set date on his return to the playing field but is hopeful he can be ready to get back early in the season.

Mitchell broke his leg in a training incident 12 months ago last Saturday and missed the entire 2019 season as he recovered from surgery to repair the horror injury.
