tbh I think Trac should be disqualified. He's not going to play half forward primarily, sure he will rotate through at times but he's going to be very important to the mids IMO. All training reports have Harmes at HB, why would we do that if Trac isn't going to replace him in the midfield rotation? I know we want to pick our best 18 on the field, but if Trac plays another season with most of his minutes at half forward I'm going to lose a bit of faith in Goody. Harmes should be half back ahead of Salo or on the bench in this exercise.

Not much appreciation for pressure forwards/ground level crumbers either. Hunt is a good at leading up at the footy but seemingly just doesn't crumb the ball super well, despite having good hands below his knees. Fritsch is slow, has legit footy nous re: leading patterns but he isn't a pressure forward. Him/TMac/Weed aren't the best at applying F50 pressure, so the other guys need to pull their weight.

IMO Vanders is a must if he brings the 2018 form, plays taller than he is listed(and I think smaller forward setups are one of our strengths with guys like Vanders Fritsch Milkshakes Trac Clarry all able to win one on ones vs smaller opponents) and applies legit pressure and wins the footy inside 50.

And then it comes down to the best pressure forward after Vanders/Milkshakes/TMac/Weed/Fritsch IMO. I have no idea who this could be; haven't read enough training reports. Chandler definitely applies pressure(don't know about his goalsense though), don't know enough about Bedford, Wags doesn't have much goal sense but he's quite dynamic, Lockhart doesn't do good by the numbers but by my eye test he is OK at ground level iirc and actually has a bit of goalsneak-ishness about him. Dunks is too slow, Nibbler has just fallen way off.

I expect Nibbler to be in the side round one given he is a favourite of Goody, but:

Vanders Weed Milkshakes
CWags TMac Fritsch

Is my R1 setup.

And if this is our lineup; the mids and backs are gonna need to be very good with their structures behind the footy. A team competing for 8th with us like North or Sydney(esp. if Buddy gets on the park jesus) just seems to have a much more balanced fwd 50 setup.(guys like Heeney Papley Thomas Zurhaar have more quality than our fwds)

I think it is because of a lack of serious quality in the small forward position.

Our best forward 6 and our round 1 best 6 could be two different things based on needs. I’m not sure how Hannan, weid and Vanders are tracking fitness wise but I see them in our best 8 forwards and are important to the structure/balance of the forward line.

I think for round one Pickett and Jackson are looking good and could add some excitement to the side, but will be managed during the year. Overall balance would see

Trac weid Vanders
Melk Tmac hannan

Pickett as the “seventh” forward
Weid as back up ruck

This is the hardest one to pick, so many injury prone guys I want to select. I'll just pretend they are all fit and firing even though I know they more than likely won't be. 😟

I like our depth here, wouldn't surprise me if someone like Dunkley or Lockhart had an awesome preseason and became a team mainstay throughout the season.

Edit: After Weids year last year I'm running low on faith, hope he turns it around but I've probably got more faith in the one tall forward line with TMac and Trac or Vanders (if he can ever get fit enough) playing CHF.

With preuss down, Gwan battling fitness Weid is important as ever

To his defence, Weid never got his body right for an extended period of time last year

I see a bit in Lockhart(got a bit of an eye for it at ground level IMO) but not much in Dunkley. Very slow, no F50 pressure and awful on the wing. Would think he’d break into the side as an inside mid if anything.

I know he was underdone but he just showed zero athleticism at all last season. Has decent footy nous inside F50 I guess.

I thought Dunkley was pretty good for a player new to the club at mid year and without any preseason. Played well against the Dogs up forward.

Like I said I hope he turns it around but he very much seems a confidence player to me. He needs to be firing early this year to set himself up for a good one.

Prefer Petty's leading patterns and attack at the ball to Weideman at the moment.
honestly forgot he was even in the options, but I'd probably pick him over Weed ATM. Great hands, even got 3 tackles a game when he played forward which is nice. But neither of them have shown they can even kick 35 goals in a season; splitting hairs for mine.

I want Trac as my 7th mid rotation, but I'm going to start him at HFF. So my bench will have the 6th and 7th forwards, one more mid, and one def.

My forward six:
Petracca | Weid | AVB
Melksham | TMac | Fritsch

Progressively:
2020 team:
FB: Jetta | May | Smith
HB: Hibberd | Lever | Salem
C: Langdon | Viney | Tomlinson
HF: Petracca | Weid | AVB
FF: Melksham | TMac | Fritsch
R: Gawn | Oliver | Brayshaw
INT: Nick Smith | Nick Smith | Nick Smith
